Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 - Ambush

In the deserted alley, the footsteps of Lilin and Caitlyn echoed in the distance.

"I didn't expect that you would barter well." There was a smile on Caitlyn's face. "I thought you would be like Jayce who just buys things outright."

"It's a personal principle." Lilin responded, "Even if it's sponsored, I don't like to get ripped off."

"I didn't expect you to be this frugal." Caitlyn's eyes flashed with brilliance, "Are we going back now?"

"Do you want to explore the undercity? I imagined you would have had enough smog for today?"

"It's still early, and it's rare for me to come down here, why don't we take a detour?"

Lilin glanced at his watch to confirm the time.

It's past 4 pm now. If we walk around for half an hour, we should be able to go back at 6 o'clock.

"Okay, but we should only stay..." Lilin sighed.

But as soon as he looked up, Caitlyn stopped him and searched for something.

"There's nothing to see here... at least go on the main street."

"It's too quiet." said Caitlyn.

"What's too quiet? There's no one here, shouldn't it be quiet..."

"Shh." Caitlyn covered Lilin's mouth with her hand.

Afterwards, she surveyed the surroundings with vigilance in her eyes, and paid attention to all the dissonant sounds around her.

Caitlyn lowered her voice: "This is the same alley we walked through when we came. There were two sleeping homeless people there."

"What does that mean?" Lilin didn't understand why she mentioned this. "Maybe they woke up and went elsewhere."

She shook her head, pointed to the dry mat beside the trash can near the wall, and then looked up at the closed windows of the houses.

"Not only that, but the lights in these homes are also turned off. When we came, we could still hear people's chatter, and now … all gone.

"If it's just one house I wouldn't suspect anything, but the whole alley..."

Lilin raised his alertness, "Someone is targeting us and set things up ahead of time?"

"Maybe."

Lilin also trusts her intuition and instincts, they seem to be cornered and hunted.

Furthermore, this is Zaun, and it is normal for robberies to occur.

Although the two dress up as ordinary citizens; under careful inspection, their disposition remains foreign despite the disguise, and it's not incomprehensible that they are targeted by gangsters.

Caitlyn pulled Lilin close to the wall, "The enemy has the first move, and we don't know the weapons they have... I should have brought my rifle!"

Rifle?

Don't have a rifle, but the pistol will have to suffice.

Lilin took out the hextech revolver and handed it to Caitlyn.

He knew that without firearm training, it's better to give it to Caitlyn, who is an expert in firearms since a young age.

"This ... you have a gun?"

Catelyn was amazed and reached out to take the strange-looking revolver.

"It can fire magic bullets and cause an area of effect in a wide range." Lilin explained, "But there are only three charges, so use sparingly... Also, there is a 1-second delay between firing, remember."

"Magic? Fire delay?" Caitlyn obviously haven't seen hextech weapons. "Three bullets should be enough."

The pair are in the middle of the narrow alley, if they want to go to a crowded street, they would have to turn at least two corners and walk another hundred meters.

The peculiar situation has them stranded with no quick escapes.

"These guys after us should be hiding in a room above." Caitlyn quickly analyzed the situation, but at the same time felt puzzled, "But if it was a robbery, would it take so much trouble?"

Unless... these guys are after something else...

Thinking of this, Caitlyn glanced at Lilin next to her, shuddering at her thought.

Could it be that they came for me!?

Even though Cassandra is the council member of Piltover, there are still many families that are hostile to Clan Kiramman.

Although most of them are only mild disputes in interests, most hold back from challenging a councillor.

However, that is only a facade...

Which mercantile family dares to be so bold, to mark the daughter of Councillor Kiramman?

"These guys may not be robbers." Caitlyn bit her lip, "I'm sorry, I'm the one they're looking for."

"???" Lilin felt confused, "How are you involved..."

He had only uttered a few words when he heard a window not far away being slammed open, and a long black metal pipe protruded out of it.

Caitlyn saw it out of the corner of her eye.

"Be careful! They have a gun!"

But an normal person's reaction speed is far inferior to that of a gun.

With a flash of orange, a deafening echo came from the alley.

--bang!

Suddenly, a numbness came from Lilin's shoulder, followed by an unbearable burning sensation that rushed through his nerves.

At the same time, the system prompt sounded frantically deep in his mind:

[HP: 322/585]

[Status: gunshot wound, losing blood]

[Effect: -20 HP per minute]

I... was shot!?

Lilin has not recovered from the shock.

"Hide behind the trash can!"

Before the second shot was fired, Caitlyn hurriedly pulled Lilin to squat down.

Her blue eyes were misty, and she looked back at Lilin with great concern, " don't let go of your wound, too much blood loss will send you into shock!"

Tearing a clean cloth from her hem and quickly wrapped it around his shoulder a few times as an emergency bandage.

Lilin clenched his teeth tightly, resisting from yelling, and producing a layer of cold sweat from pain.

Fortunately, after Caitlyn's first aid, the rate of health loss was temporarily reduced from 20 to 12 per minute.

But he still needs timely treatment.

"Miss Kiramman, I advise you to stop struggling, you can't escape even if you're armed with a small pistol." A dull, coarse male voice came from the direction from which Lilin had been shot.

At the same time as the voice sounded, several figures appeared on the other side of the alley.

Seeing that Caitlyn had a weapon in her hands, they all hid behind cover and didn't dare to peak their taget.

Calm down. The higher the stakes, the more you need to calm down... This group of people only has one gun, and the advantage is mine.

Caitlyn took a few quick deep breaths to calm her nervousness and replied, "You've got quite a few people just to catch a frail lady."

As she spoke, she concentrated again, trying to identify the location of the shooter from his voice.

But the man was obviously prepared, so he didn't give her this chance at all and chose not to say a word.

"Miss Kiramman, our mission is to capture you alive, not necessarily in one piece ... If you put down your weapons and come with us now, maybe you will suffer less."

Shouted a man on the opposite side of the shooter.

It's impossible to determine the location of the person with the gun!

Just when Caitlyn was at a loss and didn't know what to do, Lilin, pale in pain:

"Do you remember the approximate location of that person just now?"

She nodded subconsciously, "I can only determine a rough range..."

"Accurate to 3 meters?"

"But that's not …"

"it's enough."

Lilin sweating but squeezed out a smile,

"Shoot. Trust your aim. And my design."
