Chapter 2 - A Drunken Night

The wind howled in the moonlit streets, the streets empty and dark with only the moon lighting the path. A man walked the streets, wobbling as he walked the late streets of Ledster's upper sector. He had one drink too many and was now relishing its after-effects, the only comfort that he was allowed to have. the workplace was a rotting hell hole, they worked the employee like those slum dwellers.

The man had enough but he was not going to do anything than drink off the years of bitterness, but the thing that pushed the man to the edge was not his toxic work, rather it was the final strike to his pride when his wife had openly admitted her adultery. Instead of apologizing she accused him of not being able to give them a good lifestyle and continued her wanton activities, he was aghast. He had looked for his oldest daughter for support, but she said she was disgusted at both of them and left the house.

His son had long since left them, right after he landed a better job than his father. It ate him from the inside, did he not feed them, worked his butt off, and sent them to college? didn't he fulfill his duty to the best? and what he got? not even a piece of thank you...

"ungrateful worms" he shouted and kicked off a lying stone that got knocked away to a dark corner, the man stood frozen as he watched a figure shrouded in the dark, spooked he dashed to his house. he ran all the way to his house and stood in front of the door. as his fear drained away, his bitterness came back ' I had enough, I'm leaving' with that thought he entered.

The living room was empty, but soon an energetic voice called out to him.

"DDaaad...your baaack!!" The voice itself healed all the bitterness in his heart, and he remembered why he still stayed. A ten year old girl ran up to him and hugged his legs, smiling he lifted her and turned her around in the air. her giggles slowly but surely filled his heart with warmth. At the end of the day, he couldn't leave his wife, he didn't want his adorable doll to live without her mother.

Putting her down he asked "where is your mother, Anna" she tilted her head and said the shower. what was she doing in the shower this late, though drunk he called her out, there was no answer so he went check and what he saw made his blood run cold, inside the bathtub a corpse floated, the water thick red. his heart jumped furiously, the corpse was his wife. He hurriedly went to the telephone and attempted to call the police when he heard his daughter's scream.

In his panic he hadn't considered whether the killer was still there or not, cursing he went in the direction of the voice and saw that a figure had pinned Anna to the ground. He grabbed a nearby lamp and smashed it to the figure's head, blood splattered the wall and it lay on the ground, he got a good look at the person, it was his wife!

Deeply disturbed he stood frozen until Anna came running to him, he was scared and crying. It was not the time to contemplate! he had to save Anna.

He was clueless about the situation, seeing all the blood he presumed his wife was dead. Perhaps she had gone insane, he didn't know.

He did what he thought was the best, he carried his sobbing girl on his shoulders and ran. But just as he was near the door a sharp pain spread from his thighs. He fell, and Anna got thrown down which probably got her unconscious. That was good, he thought. She shouldn't see what was next. His thigh muscles were brutally ripped by it.

Fear took over the man like never before, his eyes caught the murderous look on his crawling wife. Blood poured from the wound he had given. 'It's not my wife' he realized. The body yes, but the person? no!. His wife must have been already done with and he was next...He only wished it would ignore the girl...

It lunged at him and held his neck with its terrible claws. He closed his eyes for the inevitable but the strike never came. He heard the blasting of his door behind him and the thing screaming as it was forcefully torn off him.

Curious he opened his eyes, the thing had crashed on their dining table, and its dreadful eyes looking past him. Suddenly his body jerked due to the gunshot, the bullets hit its target and yet that cursed thing shrieked and approached them with inhumane speed. A few more shots and a sling sound of metal being scraped. For the first time, he saw the one who stood behind him. Tall and ferocious, he held a gun in one and a sword in another he lunged at the abominable thing.

"I'm saved," He said in surprise. the adrenaline downed and his weary mind begged for sleep. Accompanied by the lullaby of gunshots and violent shrieks he fell asleep.

And then the morning came, He was yanked to wake up, dripping with water he struggled to breathe. A man was squatting in front of him,

" Take your time," He said.

Calming his breadth, he remembered the events before "Where is my daughter!!!" he asked the man.

The man was calm and reassured him while holding his hand that he unknowingly had gripped the man's shoulders.

"I'm Inspector Nathan, your daughter is safe...could you narrate what happened here?"

And thus he explained everything that happened, Inspector Nathan listened calmly, but his colleagues gave him a weird look. After he explained everything, Inspector Nathan put his hands on his shoulders.

"I'm sorry for your loss Mr.Andrew, you're in shock and in pain. certainly, your wife's case must have spooked you, we have already gotten testimony from your neighbors. They claim to seen your wife running out at late night...We promise you to find your wife" With a sigh, Nathan slapped on Mr. Andrew's back supportively "But you have to toughen up, for your child's sake"
