A small child stood with wide, eager eyes, his voice trembling with excitement. "When can I become strong like you?"
"Don't worry, small one," the man in the shadows replied, a hint of mischief in his tone. "Soon enough, you'll become a great adventurer, maybe even a hero like your dad once was."
"No! You're way stronger than my father! Please, take me under your wing!" The child bowed deeply, looking up with admiration.
"If that's what you wish, I shall grant it," the man said, his hand ruffling the child's hair. "But be prepared for the obstacles and terrors ahead."
"YES! I'll make you proud, _______!"
Eight years later...
"For all your deeds and dedication to this guild and town," the guildmaster bellowed, his voice booming across the bustling hall, "I shall now boost your rank up tremendously!"
"Are you serious?!" I gasped, eyes wide with disbelief.
But before we get carried away, let's rewind a bit. There's chaos, comedy, and a calamity waiting to unfold—trust me, it's worth your time!
I'm Velvet Goon Kaiser—your average adventurer with limited abilities. Yes, that's right, limited! Born to a half-noble family, I somehow ended up with a class chosen by a fortune-telling cat. Yes, a cat! What kind of twisted fate is that? But hey, at least I get to wear fancy clothes, right?
"Hey, Ariel, don't you think this quest is a bit too much for me?" I fidgeted, looking at the brown woman in front of me. She was my personal guild attendant, and let me tell you, she had a knack for giving me the toughest quests imaginable.
"What's not excessive doesn't concern you, right, Vel?" Ariel shot me a playful smirk.
"You might be right, but I'm lowly ranked! There's no way I can handle this!" I whimpered, half-hoping she'd reconsider.
"The accomplishments you achieved say otherwise." She waved a scroll in front of me, showcasing my so-called achievements, most of which were accomplished thanks to a team effort. Thanks, guys!
"I'll do it just for you! But if I don't come back alive, just know I will always love you!" I shot back with a cheesy grin, fully expecting a dramatic eye-roll from her.
"Will you accept it already and go complete it, Vel?" The short, fiery-haired woman sighed, arms crossed.
"Alright." I chuckled, sensing my fate was sealed.
Cue dramatic music!
Fast forward to my grand return from the quest, which turned out to be more eventful than I expected. I returned with way more loot than anticipated, leading to a shocking revelation: I was promoted to S-Rank! Yes, you heard me right—S-Rank, the highest rank there is!
"S-S-Rank?" I stuttered, my jaw dropping in disbelief. "Are you sure this is right?"
"Absolutely! And that beast you fought? It was a Class O in rank! Those things can destroy entire buildings and fend off multiple adventurers at once!" Ariel's eyes sparkled with excitement.
"I think there might be a misunderstanding. You really think someone like me is capable of that?" I asked, bewildered, as my mind raced to catch up.
"Unfortunately, I'd love to joke about that, but seriously! You've done us a huge favor! So, instead of staying B-Rank, we decided to give you a massive boost to S-Rank for your unwavering strength." Ariel beamed, clearly thrilled with the outcome.
"Seriously?" I squinted at her, half-expecting a hidden camera crew to jump out.
And just like that, I became S-Rank by sheer luck after knocking out a Class O beast by slamming it into a wall while evading it. My luck had run out—no more easy quests, no more coming home early. This was officially my unluckiest day yet!
And scene!
