Chapter 3 - The Battle Tower

Waking up, Takashi stretched as he sat up, before hopping out of bed, putting his clothes on, and peaking out of the tent flap.

It was just bright enough to see, the sun having yet to peak over the horizon.

Walking out and looking around, it looked like his new neighbors had yet to get up, well to bad for them, Takashi was an early riser and enjoyed the feeling of working as the sun rises.

'I should explore the area, I don't know how long I'm going to stay here, but, knowing the surroundings is a must.'

Walking around to the hill, the camp as up against, Takashi climbed to the top to get his bearings, after which he went back to the river, planing to walk along the edge of the clearing.

Reaching the river, he walked along it up stream, to the left, passing the stone mound, within just a few meters of the stone mound he came across a large ravine, the side of which, went across part of the river, causing it to flow down into it.

It would be a good place to mine some time, past it, he reached the edge of the oak forest, and walked along that, straight out from the river, he went along for around 1 minute before reaching a small herd of cows, the Nymph also happened to be here, as she flew over head, giving special attention to the area past the cows.

Walking over near her, Takashi looked in the same direction as her. The ground dipped down within a few meters into the forest, before sharply going back up, where a stone tower stood, this one only one floor tall, and past it.....

"Fucking Hell!"

Takashi dropped down to the ground, looking past the tower, flying high in the sky were not one, but TWO Dragons!

The closest one, being green, and another a good five hundred meters further, was golden brown.

'Fucking Dragons live near here?? how is this place not razed to the ground?'

Watching the closest dragon for well over an hour, it seemed like the edge of its territory happened to be about at the small stone tower. Getting back up, Takashi decided to not go in that direction for now, actually it would be better to stay clear of that entire area, you know, just to be safe.

Getting back up, he saw the Nymph had moved on to another area, so he decided to keep walking around the area, past the cows, the tree line went up the hill behind the camp before going straight away from it, opening up into a large grass field. The Tower was left of that so Takashi headed over there to check it out.

Reaching the tower, that had several large trees growing around it, Takashi walked up to the large opening, inside he could see a chest as well as two {Vortex}'s, quickly hopping inside, he ran over to the large chest, he climbed on top of it, as it was placed on some meter high and wide stones, it was high enough that the zombies would not be able to reach him, if he was careful.

Pulling out his pickax, he started mining away at the caged vortex, and right on queue, several zombies where flung out of both {Vortex}'s, and lumbered over to him, keeping just out of reach enough that he could still hit the caged {Vortex}'s, Takashi wondered if he should use this opportunity to see what gave him the most exp, zombies, or {Vortex}?

Opening his inventory and going to profile, all while still mining away at the caged {Vortex}, he noted that he still had zero exp, so it was perfect to experiment.

Right then, the {Vortex} shattered and lots of yellow and green exp, swam up to him, looking at his exp climb he felt a bit giddy.

{Exp: 1}

{Exp: 15}

{Exp: 34}

{Exp: 60}

Seeing it come to a stop at 65 Takashi decided to make sure that all the vortex's he came across where mined, if mining a vortex gave him 60 exp, and yesterday he got a total of 100 exp, killing the zombies that come out of a vortex only gives 40 exp, an entire twenty less.

Quickly going to the other side he, mined that {Vortex} as well, before killing the couple zombies that had been able to spawn. Picking up the random stuff that the vortex dropped, he then looked at the chest, it was a wide chest about 2 meters wide, it was a light brown color.

Opening it, he found some iron ingots, wood, and some cloth bandages, just low level loot, though the iron should be useful.

Turning he walked to the stairs heading up to the next floor, upon reaching it, he saw four skeletons, and two zombies had already spawned, running in, he went straight towards the skeletons, as they have both long range and do more damage, ducking under an arrow, he equipped his axe, swinging it at the skeletons scull.

It shattered on impact, turns out using an axe for the skeletons was indeed a good idea, suddenly Takashi grunts in pain, stumbling forwards, and arrow had pierced his lower thigh, turning, he swings at the skeleton that shot him, bashing its head into pieces, before running behind the chest and taking his pickax, destroying the {Skeleton Vortex} as fast as possible.

Looking over the chest, he saw the, now three, zombies lumbering towards him, with the last skeleton shooting an arrow at him, missing, hitting the chest.

"Damn it! Zombies are fairly easy to deal with but these damn skeletons are super fucking annoying"

Grunting, he pulls the arrow out of his thigh, and wrapping the wound with the 1 of the 2 bandages he just got.

'Is this irony? calling it low level loot, and than needing to use it right away?'

*Tch*

Well its whatever, leaping out from behind the chest, Takashi ran around the zombies, straight at the skeleton, dodging another arrow, before smashing its head in.

*Huhhuh*

Gasping for breath, Takashi turned around, going the long way around the room as the zombies followed him, climbing onto the chest, and mining the {Zombie Vortex}, sitting on the chest, he hit the zombies with the axe, as they tried to get him, luckily the zombies seem to be no taller than 5'6" so they couldn't reach him.

After killing them, he laid on the chest, catching his breath, trying to ignore the constant pain in his thigh.

'Fuck, fighting while wounded is so much damn harder.'

It took several minuets before he felt like getting up and opening the chest, in which he found, more iron bars, a iron ring, and a saddle.

"Seems like the loot in chest is very random, though maybe each chest has better loot the higher you go in this tower"

Holding the ring, its stats popped up in front of him.

{Miner's Ring Of Luck}

+0.5 Luck

"I'm guessing that you can only get your luck higher with items like this? If so than this chest was very good."

Putting the ring on his right pinky, he walked towards the stairs going up to the next level.

Looking through the doorway (Just doorway, no door) He saw over seven skeletons had already spawned in from the vortex's, which, he noticed where both skeleton vortex's.

'Yea, Fuck No'

Bolting back down the stairs he went all the way to the bottom, leaving the tower, he could deal with that later.

Heading back to his tent, he noticed that the people there where nowhere to be found, probably hunting or something, heading into his tent, Takashi took his crafting bench out of his inventory, and set it up, across from the furnace, opening it up, he used the wood he got to make a chest, before setting it down, at the back of the tent, next to the other one, and put the rest of the wood inside of it.

Laying on his bed, he took off his bandage to check his wound, only to find that the wound was gone! All though there was still blood around the hole in his pants, the wound had healed right up.

'Wow, I guess my natural healing his abnormally high, I thought I would have to go find the Nymph'

Looking at his hand he saw that the bandage he had just taken off was disintegrating, just like the monsters did after he killed them, It was quite odd to say the least and while he felt like there was something wrong about it, as well as many other things, there was just no basses for why should work any other way.

*Growl*

"Damn, I forgot about breakfast"

If only he had gotten some food from the chest in the tower

'Oh well'

"Hunting it is"

Hopping off the bed, Takashi walked out, heading in the direction of the cows, if he remembered correctly, there where several chickens that were hanging out in the same area, at some point he wanted to eat some beef, however, it seemed like a lot of work, so chicken will have to do for now.

Nearing the herd of cows, Takashi thought about how he wanted to go about this, he had never plucked a chicken before.

'It couldn't be that hard right?'

It wasn't that hard to spot a few chickens clucking about in the field, around the cows, what was difficult however, was catching one. It took much longer then Takashi thought it would, for the first few minuets he chased around a chicken before decided that randomly chasing them was a waste of time, instead he took out his axe and started hurling it at the chickens, as luck would have it, he hit and killed a chicken on his third throw.

Picking up his axe and putting it back in his inventory, Takashi grabbed the dead chicken by the neck and carried it back to the camp.

Unsure about how to go about the plucking, he simply pulled out his knife and skinned and cleaned it, learning to pluck could wait for another day. Starting a fire using the leftover coals, he put the chicken on a spike and hung it over the fire.

Within a few minutes it had a golden brown tint to it, which Takashi took as it being close enough to cooked, taking a wing off, he bit into it was surprised to find that it actually tasted pretty good.

'Just a couple of spices and it would be perfect'

Oh well, he can ask the hunters if they have any when they get back.

Looking up into the sky, the sun shined down from straight above, it was already midday. Wanting to take another shot at the tower, he scarfed down as much of the chicken as he could, putting the other half in his inventory, he stood up stretching, before mentally preparing himself.

Walking back to the tower, that he now called "The Battle Tower" Takashi pulled out his axe, closing his eyes, he relaxed is posture, opening his eyes, he charged in, immediately running up the stairs to the second floor, and then to the third.

Entering the third floor he had to duck to the left right away as it seemed that all seven skeletons were waiting for him. Luckily for him, the rooms were fairly small, meaning he had enough time to run to the closest skeleton before they could nock an arrow in, rather than killing it, he swung his axe at its wrist, breaking it on impact, right as the other skeletons fired arrows at him.

Rather than hitting Takashi, they ended up hitting the skeleton in front of him killing it, making use of the opportunity he shoved the skeleton aside and swung his axe wide, smashing through the skulls of two skeletons, killing them instantly, rather then attacking again, he ran behind the chest pulling out his pickax and quickly breaking one of the {Vortex}'s.

Suddenly skeletons lumbered to both sides of the chest blocking him in, immediately dropping to the floor, he felt rather than heard, as two arrows flew right past his scalp causing a sharp pain to emit from his skull.

Leaping at the skeleton in front of him, Takashi ignored the pain and swung up into the skeletons chin causing its jaw to shatter and it head to break off as the rest of it shattered into particles. As his axe was up in the air, he swung it down with all his force, right into the skull of the third to last skeleton before leaping to side of the chest and running around to the last two skeletons which he quickly gave them his preferred treatment of shattering their skulls into pieces.

Quickly switching to his pickax, he destroyed the other {Vortex} before slumping against the wall to catch his breath. It was only now that he felt a sharp pain coming from his arm, adrenaline having kept him ignorant.

Looking at his arm he could see dripping from just below his shoulder, pulling his sleeve up past his shoulder with a wince, he looked at his wound, it appeared that as he leaped to the side of the chest he was not fast enough and an arrow had sliced his arm.

Taking out his last bandage, he wrapped it around his arm to stop the bleeding.

"Damn it, got shot with an arrow twice today"

'Well, may as well keep going'

Inside the chest he found some more bandages, as well as a book called {Empty Atlas} he would definitely check that out later.

Turning, he ran up the stairs to the next floor, which lucky for him, had two {Zombie Vortex}'s, much easier to deal with than the skeletons, running at the towards the first one, he skidded under the swing of a zombie equipping his sword and slicing it in half as he went by, before climbing on top of the chest and mining the {Vortex}'s, before killing the last two zombies. He then opened up the chest to find some bread, iron ore, and a blue sleeping bag.

Looking through the large open window, he noticed that the sun was starting to go down, causing an orange light to cascade around the area, it was already evening.

Deciding that he may as well call it a night Takashi walked down the tower and back to the camp. To his surprise, the hunters hadn't come back yet. Figuring that they were probably just late, he went into his tent and laid on his bed, opening up his profile.

Upon hitting the + after his level a notice popped up.

{Are you sure you want to spend: 40Exp?}

{Yes} {No}

"...I guess that's fair"

Unperturbed, Takashi hit {Yes}, before putting all the exp he could into his level, leveling him up to 20, he then distributed his stat points, putting most into deftness, as that would really help with dodging arrows from the skeletons.

Clicking on the plus after his level again, he gasped and let out a curse when he saw the exp requirement.

{Are you sure you want to spend: 250Exp?}

{Yes} {No}

"What the fuck?!...that means.... it'll take..... 2.5 thousand exp to get to level 30?!"

'With it being that expensive, I may as well start putting exp into my skills'

Opening the {Skills} tab, Takashi pondered for a few minuets before deciding to put 50 exp into {Iron Skin} that way it will be harder for arrows to cut him so easily.

He immediately felt a shiver run across his entire body from head to toe, letting him know that it had changed him. He felt his skin, it felt the same as normal, but when he tried to cut his finger with his knife, it cut much shallower than it should have, not even drawing blood.

It was definitely worth it.

Hitting {Iron Skin} again, he was unsurprised by the raised cost

{Are you sure you want to spend: 500Exp?}

{Yes} {No}

He may not be able to upgrade {Iron skin} right now but he was definitely going to put his next 500 exp into it at the very least.

With that all settled he closed his {Menu} and sat up, looking around.

It was completely dark out by now and the hunters had not come back yet, hopefully they were fine, while Takashi didn't care about them to much, they had been nice to him, giving him a meal and place to sleep, so he hoped they would get back safely...though now that he thought about it, while this place did seem kind of permanent, its not the kind of place people would want to live.

Maybe this was just one of their hunting bases? and they just stayed here until they got the food they needed? Well whatever it was, he felt to exhausted from all the fighting he did today to worry about anything.

Laying back down, Takashi pulled the covers over him, snuggling into it as he gave into his tiredness, closing his eyes and falling asleep.
