Some things are scary when you grow accustomed to it.
Take Wei Chen for example; the moment he came back from morning assembly, he would order someone to watch Linlang drink her medicine.
On one occasion, he "accidentally" came across the scene of her destroying a bowl of medicinal soup.
She even ruined his pot of blooming clivia.
That was a birthday gift from Feng Sisi!
Wei Chen had the urge to kill.
"It would seem that this flower was a gift from Your Majesty's beloved. Chen Qie's eyes were crooked and deserves death. May it please Your Majesty!" Linlang placed his hand on her neck and closed her eyes in the manner of calmly awaiting her death.
Wei Chen: "..."
She can't be beaten, but killing her won't quell his anger!
Why does this person make him feel so contradictory?
He wrapped his fingers around her jade-white neck.
As long as he pressed down and twisted, this person will disappear, leaving no one left to scorn him.
She opened her eyes. There was an unfathomable sense of leisure in her expression that made his teeth itch. Smiling, she asked him, "What is Your Majesty waiting for?"
A dangerous glint flashed through his narrowed eyes.
Does she really think he won't kill her?
All of a sudden, the man's hands tightened.
Oops, did she overdo it?
Linlang deliberately took a step back and pretended to fall.
Black hair swayed and a jadeite necklace tinkled from the motion.
The man immediately hugged her waist, but instead of hooking her up, they both fell on a bed of crab apple flowers.
Spring was like a heady cup of wine, so intoxicating that crab apples are powerless.1
She looked up at him in fright and her bright eyes seemed dazzling. The cinnabar mole on her forehead took on the shade of blood. The drop of red embellished her beauty, and she was like a fairy concubine drawing people into the devil way.
The intoxicating fragrance flushed his cheeks. It wasn't certain whether it was from the scent of the flowers or her hair.
"You had better...always remain this way...
"Hooking Zhen's soul...
"If not, Zhen will... kill you...
"Strangle you alive..."
His threats were shrouded in ambiguity as the tip of his tongue traced the shell of her jade-white ear.
"It hurts." She seemed to cry out unconsciously and her voice was reproaching, "How can Your Majesty bite like a dog?"
Wei Chen: "..."
How dare she call him dog! What breed could possibly match his noble self? Full of nonsense!
Also, if you must complain, then complain. Why use such a coquettish voice?
This is a foul!
"Then, Zhen will be gentle."
The man covered up his reddening face with a cough.
"No more. Your skill is lacking."
Linlang decisively pushed the man's chest then gathered her long hair to prepare for bed.
Receiving a kiss from a man that only knew how to bite, hah.
"You! You! Preposterous! This is a dishonor! Come back here! Come back right now! Zhen will have you see Zhen true strength!" Wei Chen was hopping mad over the opponent's disgusted expression.
Linlang didn't even look at him.
Wei Chen walked up to her in a rage and pushed her against the red pillar.
This was commonly known as the 'kabedon'2.
"Do what?"
Linlang raised her provocative eyes at him. Her gorgeous face was slightly tilted up, and her moist lips were reflected in the emperor's eyes.
"Do you believe Zhen won't charge you for contempt against the monarch?" He spoke with sternness and his serious face looked down at her for the full effect of frightening her.
It was a pity that he performed a kabedon.
This move was usually done when hitting on a girl.
It seems that men were lacking in this area.
Linlang blinked. She could clearly see Wei Chen's bobbing throat, as if he was enduring something.
An affluent monarch who owned the world and the lives within it was tolerating her temper.
This was going more smoothly than she expected.
"Oh?"
She dragged the sound meaningfully, and there was an inexplicable enticement in her tone. Her pearly white teeth opened up slightly, revealing a glimpse of the tempting red.
Wei Chen's heartbeat quickened.
"However, Zhen can give you an opportunity to make amends." He tried his best to stabilize his arrogant expression.
Linlang smiled slightly.
She stood on her toes and whispered in his ear.
"Your Majesty is in estrus. The little fellow is standing up."
"S-silence, woman!"Please read this at onemachineshow.blogspot.com
Wei Chen's face flushed red and wished he could sew her mouth shut. Was this something a lady should say?
Preposterous, utterly preposterous!
So what if he's in estrus for his concubine?!
Making a fuss!
The court attendants saw such a scene and singled one another to withdraw in order to give the ambiguous pair more room.
Liu Quan, the eunuch beside Wei Chen had a meaningful gaze.
It would seem that Consort Shu has another rival.
———
Victory or defeat could be attained regardless of identity, but Linlang has always been the winner.
Since Feng Sisi replaced her identity and married Prince Wei, Linlang didn't hold back and simply dug into her corner.
Wei Chen was the female lead's greatest weapon in the plot. The sovereign stood above multitudes and could cover the skies. If it wasn't for him, Feng Sisi would have died countless times.
Maybe this opportunity could be used to kill the male lead, she thought as she held her checks in both hands.
The laws restricted her from doing it, but that didn't mean others couldn't!
Will he be steamed or fried?
"What are you thinking about?" The man hugged her from behind and rubbed against her warm cheeks.
"This year's snowfall is heavy. I wonder if those crab apples will freeze."
"Rest assured, Zhen will have the gardeners tend to them. They will surely bloom in the spring, just like you."
Linlang looked back and smiled as she pressed her fingers on his warm lips. "No honesty. What could have happened for me to be praised this way?"
Wei Chen's eyes avoided hers.
Linlang's face turned pale when she hazard a guess, "Is it the Zhou family?"
"What happened?"
"Is it my father? Or have my mother's headaches recurred?"
"Wei Chen, speak up!" She only called his name when she was angry.
"All right, I'll speak, but you must remain calm. You cannot get angry." The man held her firmly in his embrace, "The ailing Princess Wei has gone back to visit her family. The Zhou family are very happy."
In order to hide the female lead's identity, the male lead always claimed that the princess was weak and could not step out of the manor.
Right now Chancellor Zhou ideologies have opened up and was making preparations to accept this 'new daughter' into the family.
Linlang mulled this over.
Was it because they were brothers?
Their way of protecting their sweethearts was exactly the same!
Not too long ago, Wei Chen said that the new concubine died of a heart disease and then found a new family with a scholarly background for her.
So far, neither the male lead nor the House of Zhou knew that this 'deceased person' was not only alive, but had become the incredibly pampered Consort Tang3.
The emperor planted a garden full of crab apple trees for her and named it 'Branch of Spring'.
If her position was uncertain before, then she can now be regarded as the only branch thriving on the tree4.
Many officials wracked their brains trying to please Consort Tang, but Wei Chen's protection was watertight. Other than the maid and eunuch who served him, no one else had the fortune to see her.
"You mean to say, my parents acknowledged that fraud?"
The girl's fingers curled into a fist and unconsciously grabbed the man's lapels. It was as if she couldn't believe it. "Do they not acknowledge me? I'm their daughter, Zhou Linlang! You're lying to me. How could they not recognize their own..."
She was short of breath as she cried, bringing to mind the image of an abandoned child.
Wei Chen felt extremely distressed for her.
He thought that after some time, when matters had passed the limelight, he would let Linlang and Chancellor Zhou recognize one another in secret. He never thought things would end up this way.
If he did not need to take into consideration that they were her kin...
Wei Chen's eyes darkened, He wouldn't mind killing them off.
Furthermore, they both knew who was behind this.
"Wei Yu...Prince Wei..."
She suddenly pushed the man away, her eyes dyed with loathing.
It was just like the time she stabbed him with a sword. The corners of her eyes revealed a kind of madness of wanting to end in mutual destruction.
The scene was beautiful, but extremely frightening.
"Lang'er..." Wei Chen's heart jumped. He knew it. The hatred in her heart had only been temporarily suppressed, but the incident with the House of Zhou's became the final straw that broke the camel's back!
"Don't touch me!"
Linlang drew a dagger from her waist. In this carelessness, Wei Chen's palm was sliced.
He was extremely shocked.
Could it be that she never relaxed her vigilance during these few days she stayed by his side?
The woman's beautiful face turned into a cold sneer.
"Hah, the power of the royal family...is great indeed! How effortless it must be to play with people's hearts in the palm of those hands.
"Robbing my innocence...was it not sufficient?
"Now even my sole refuge—my family name— had to be so thoroughly destroyed?!
"I hate!
"How I hate!
"You bunch of beasts!"
She screamed herself hoarse.
"We're not the same, Linlang. I'm not like him." Linlang's eyes were steeped in ice as she pointed the dagger at him. "Don't come over."
"I'll avenge you. No one can hurt you."
Blood was trickling down the man's fingers, but he ignored it and continued to approach her.
"Wei Chen, I said, don't come over!"
Her sharp voice pierced his eardrums, but he didn't care. He kissed the fine hairs on her temples, his arms enveloping her trembling body.
The dagger in her hand did not fall.
He knew then that he must be in her heart.
Wei Chen thought perhaps he should be thankful for the conspiracy that brought her to his side.
He will keep her by any means. Please read this at onemachineshow.blogspot.com
Compared to his affection for Feng Sisi, Wei Chen wanted to thoroughly possess her. He didn't care even if he had to resort to plunder and bloodshed.
"Lang'er, don't be afraid. Zhen will show no mercy to the people who harmed you!"
The man's eyes were full of cruelty.
Linlang leaned against his chest as she thought to herself, the Oscars owe her a little golden man.
