Lying on his chest is a human-like arthropod. His thorax shattered, his carapace falling to pieces, he himself struggling to breath. His only remaining arm out of his four is pierced with a crossbow bolt. Half of his face is missing, mashed off by a blunt weapon.
Dangling on the edge of a cliff is a female humanoid arthropod. She holds onto his remaining arm. She is missing parts of her abdomen, organs torn and visible. Both of her antennae are ripped off. Her eyes, though one is already blind, are glazed over as she could feel the life drain from her. Below them is a pit of giant maggots. They swarm eagerly deep below her, waiting for her to drop to consume her.
He says to her,
"It's alright Sister. It'll be alright. It'll be okay. Just hold on. I'll lift you up so just hold on."
From below his facial carapace that serves as a helmet of sorts, she could see his fleshy form crack a smile. She knew he was trying to comfort her… just like how he had always done. She looks at him, how admirable was his will to live, his will to save her, his undying devotion to her. For so long has he been by her side. For so long has he suffered along with her. Her shining beacon of hope. But she knew it was time.
"Brother I have something to say."
"Don't talk. You're hurt. Focus on healing yourself."
"Brother please."
She had already felt her body failing. Though she lives for now, she knows her end is near. Whatever organs she had were dying. She looks at him with serenity.
"Brother listen to me."
Tears drop from above, falling onto her facial carapace. She wills it to open as it exposes her fleshy face. The tears continue to flow and drop. He could feel the end coming, both hers end and his own.
"The world was never made for us. We are abominations that were never meant to be."
"No…"
"You know this to be true Brother. The gods themselves want us dead."
"No… Sister please…"
"I'm sorry I've tormented you for so long."
"Please Sister… Please don't do this."
Using his remaining strength, he slowly pulls her inch by inch back up, but slips slightly as blood drips down from his wound.
"I'm sorry for everyone who joined us. I'm sorry for all my children I've borne. This world was never made for them either."
"We can still make it Sister."
"Can we Brother? Make it to a land untouched by our enemies? Untouched by the gods themselves"
" YES… Just hold on. We will weather this just like all the thorns before. This is just another step."
She looks at him and smiles.
"Your words are so kind. Just like the day we first talked."
She loosens her grip on him.
"Please Sister… don't go."
Behind them, loud bangs and warhorns are blown. Deafening stomps and steps approach. Dwarves and their warmachines march towards them.
"Don't worry Brother… I'll always be with you."
She lets go of his hand.
"NOOOOO"
As she pummeled, she softly says.
"May you bring hope and kindness to your new Sister, okay my beloved Brother."
In her mind she casts "Time Reversal", a time spell she had been storing within herself.
"If only I could come too."
Her body disintegrates before being engulfed in a bright light, one that her brother is consumed by too.
