Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Dragonstone. 115 AC

As we flew across the blackwater bay, towards Dragonstone, I felt the same addicting feeling. The coldness of the air hitting my warm skin, the quietness of the sky, I hope this never gets old.

Caraxes landed on top of the sea dragon tower, alerting the maester that resides there. The maester of Dragonstone, Gerardrys, peaked from the window, confused on what shook the tower he resides in. when he saw the dragon, he flinched, making my father smirk at his reaction.

I mean… I admit, it's quite funny…

Caraxes then took off again, before landing on a training field. Me and Daemon jumped from the red dragon, and were welcomed by the guards of Dragonstone.

Though, they didn't look friendly.

"Your grace…" bowed a guard. "We were not informed by your arrival…"

"Do I have to report everytime I visit Dragonstone?" Daemon scoffed.

"With all due respect, your grace, your actions in the past—"

"Well I am here now, you can't stop me from staying here." Daemon quickly cut the guard off. He then turned towards me, and pushed me towards the guard. "This is Maegor, my son. Ask a servant to guide him to a room."

The guard eyed me for a second, before bowing. "As you command, your grace."

and so, my stay at Dragonstone began.

[3rd POV]

An entourage of ships were traveling through the blackwater bay, heading towards King's Landing. It was the Royal Fleet, bringing Rhaenyra Targaryen, as she had just been betrothed to Laenor Velaryon. The ravens have been sent all across Westeros about the date of the Royal Wedding weeks earlier, and it is now time to get back to King's Landing to prepare.

Meanwhile, the King, who also traveled to Driftmark, was sitting in his room inside the ship, his face pale and sweaty because of sea sickness.

"You should rest, your grace." said the Hand of the king, Lyonel Strong. "We're nearing King's Landing."

"I can't bloody rest in this condition." said the king, trying to stand up. "Let's go outside, I need some air."

"Your grace…"

Before the king could go outside however, a knock from the door came. Lyonel turned towards the door, and allowed whoever was besides that door to enter.

When the door opened, a soldier entered, holding a piece of paper. "Your Grace, I bring a message from Dragonstone."

"Dragonstone?" Viserys asked, confused. "Did something happen while I was away from the Red keep?"

"No, your grace… it's just… Prince Daemon has come to Dragonstone." said the soldier.

"Is that all?" Viserys questioned. "It's his right to go to Dragonstone, why must they need to report it to me?"

"He also brought his son, your grace." said the soldier again, making Viserys raise his eyebrow.

"Maegor is in Dragonstone?" Viserys tried to confirm.

"Yes, your grace. And the Prince had sent a letter to you." the soldier continued, giving the piece of paper to the Hand of the king.

"Give me that." said Viserys, asking the letter from the hand, and of course, Lord Hand gave him the piece of paper.

Viserys opened the scroll, and read the content inside.

"

Dear Brother,

I know we have had our differences. I will admit that I have stepped out of line when I asked for Rhaenyra's hand in marriage, but I will not apologize about what I have done, because I have never done it. So I did as you said, I flew to The Vale, where I have a son there, and when I met him, I realized something.

I have come to realize that Maegor did not have a Targaryen ward when he grew up in Runestone. Perhaps half of it is my fault, so I intend to use Dragonstone as a place for my son to study the ways of our house.

Daemon Targaryen

"

It was a short letter, but a strange sight in Viserys' eyes. What he gathered in this letter is that Daemon intends to teach his own child, an act so out of character that Viserys doubts that it is truly the only intent Daemon thought of…

"Let him be." said Viserys to the soldier. "He's not disturbing the crown's authority, it's his right to stay at Dragonstone. Let him spend his time with his son there. Just report to me if he does anything out of line."

"At your command, your grace." the soldier bowed, and exited the room, leaving the seasick Viserys and his hand alone.

[1st POV]

I sat beside a window as my father Daemon babbled about his adventures in the Stepstones. It's honestly quite boring, lots of self complementing, over exaggerated stories, and shows of domination.

"Then I finally killed that bastard. He just whined on the ground as he bled out." said Daemon proudly.

"Father, no offense, but you're a terrible teacher." I said straightforwardly. "You said you would teach me about the ways of our house? I'm not here to listen to you complimenting yourself like an attention-starved maiden."

Daemon raised his brow in amusement. "Fine. what do you want to hear?"

"Your experience. On riding a dragon. What does it mean to have one? What does it imply, how does it affect me?"

Daemon leaned against the side of the window, watching as the servants walked through the yard.

"Your dragon is your reflection on who you truly are, Maegor." said Daemon. "When Aegon rode Balerion, the dragon became a war machine, a tool for conquering, when Maegor the Cruel rode Balerion, the dragon became a symbol of fear, Balerion is a dragon for war and fear mongering. Though I suppose all of that crumbled when my brother claimed the black dread."

"But Balerion was already old and frail when the king claimed him, right?"

"True…" Daemon hummed. "Princess Rhaena, the one who started the tradition of giving a Targaryen babe an egg besides his or her cradle, wrote that your bond with your dragon strengthens you, and the other other way around."

"Meaning?"

"When Princess Rhaena was a child, she was a shy girl, but when she claimed Dreamfyre, she became… almost fearless."

"Well, I would stop becoming shy too if I had a weapon of mass destruction behind my back." I jabbed.

"You always had your way with words, boys." said Daemon with a raised brow. "It's important to know that the dragon chooses you, not the other way around."

"What about you and Caraxes? Something in your bond affect you in any way?"

"I can feel Caraxes' feeling," said Daemon. Wow, I didn't know that. "When I was injured, he felt it. Some bonds might be different, but there is a bond between a dragonrider and his or her dragon that connects them together."

A bond that connects them together huh…

I stared at the sight of the Dragonstone behind the window, pondering about what it feels like to have a dragon…

I admit… I kinda want a dragon now…
