Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Don't put too much at a time now." A security guard gave instructions to two men offloading crates off of a truck. It was night time at a warehouse located at the border area of the city where resources were imported through train system. The warehouse was lit up by streetlights and lights from inside the trains and warehouse itself so workers could see the goods they were offloading. Each package was thoroughly inspected with both infrared scanners to make sure no living organism was in any and virus detectors so they can be destroyed immediately. Even each security personnel were wearing a yellow overall, equipped with gas masks so as to avoid contacting anything that might come with the packages.

"I feel those bags are the ones containing the food items and drug supplies." Randall said to Tobi. They were both in the distance at a construction site which had workers off duty because it was a weekend. Both wore black shirts and cargo pants to blend in with the shadows of the night.

"So, what's the plan?" Randall asked putting down his binoculars.

"It's a longshot but it comes with a big pay off." Tobi assured.

"Rache, are you there?" He asked while tapping the com on his ear.

"Read you loud and clear." She responded. She was on top of another building across theirs, which was scheduled for demolition scoping the guards through a telescope. She also had a tablet on her lap which was connected to a demodulator she placed on the power grid.

"I've got hold of the frequency which the guards are using." She explained to Tobi who nodded to Randall. They both then roped down to the floor and made their way to the station. Outside the loading center about a few meters away from the busy workers were two guards who were on lookout. Tobi used tranquilizer darts on one and before the other could call for help on his coms, Racheal cancelled his frequency and he was taken down by Randall using chloroform. They both dragged the unconscious guards away from the location and put on their overalls, using the facemasks as covers. They both then walked into the station and made their way toward the trains being offloaded. The other workers didn't seem to mind them as they got closer to the trains.

"Hey, you there!" A voice beckoned behind them. It was the voice of another guard who was approaching them. They both turned around slowly in fear that they had been caught. The guard got to closer and then took a look at both of them.

"You must be the new guys they sent in." He then said with a strict tone.

"Uhm, yes, we are." Randall lied.

"What's your names?" The guard asked.

"I am, Tony and this is Keith." Randall said as he pointed to Tobi.

"Keith is a mute so I have to stick with him to help communicate so people don't get the wrong idea." Randall explained, hoping his lies were convincing. The guard looked closer at them again and was about to speak, while Tobi was slowly reaching for a smoke pellet within his overall pocket in case they were compromised, but in that instance, the guard got instructions from his coms which he listened to before looking at them again.

"You both should get in the train and inspect the containers for damages." He said to them sternly before leaving them to supervise other workers.

"That was close." Randall said.

"Mute?! Really?" Tobi whispered. They both made their way into the train and began inspecting the containers. There were some labelled with minimal drawings to indicate food, drugs and technological supplies respectively.

"Hey, you guys should help pick up some fuses caps for me." Rachael said over the coms.

"Sure, when we're in a safe zone, you lock out the power grid and shut the place down for us." Tobi instructed as they walked through the trains inner chambers. Soon, they came to a safe spot, away from the workers.

"Ok Rache, hit it." Tobi instructed and soon the sector they were in was shut down. The coms of the security guard weren't functional, the street lights were shut down and the only lights were the security lights from inside the trains which were still a bit dim due to its amber nature. The fail safe kicked in for the trains and all the doors went shut.

"How's it coming guys?" Rachael asked.

"We got our flashes and our sacks, lets get the stuff and strap em on." Randall informed her through his still functioning coms.

"Well, you guys have to be quick and ready to get out of there in five minutes, the power grid has a backup reboot system which comes back on in that time and after that happens, I will be shut out." Rachael informed them.

"Seems enough, lets grab what we can and move." Tobi said as he took off the overall but kept the mask on. They began opening the crates and filling the sacks they brought with food and drugs after which they strapped them tight to the inside of their overalls.

"You comb this area, I'mma go inside for another look." Randall said as he went in deeper without hesitation.

"Do we have time for that?" Tobi asked.

"Well, three minutes there about." Rachael informed them.

"Don't forget the fuse, oh and maybe some copper wire, and maybe some…"

"Slow down Rache…" Tobi said with a smile as he started packing the last of the goods they needed.

"How much time left." Tobi asked.

"A minute and thirty."

"Ok, we gotta head…" Tobi was about to say as he was interrupted by Randall who called for him on the coms.

"Tobi, you are not going to believe this." He said with a shocked tone.

"Get out here Randall, we are running out of time." Tobi beckoned as he walked toward where Randall was but all the sense of urgency vanished when he came into the part of the train Randall was.

"What is that?" Tobi asked.

"I do not know?" Randall replied.

Before them were two pods mounted side by side, inside them were two pale looking human bodies, male and female, in a state of cryogenysis They were both bald with purple veins running across their heads and arms.

"They remind me of the undead we have back at the base." Randall jested.

"His name is Teddy and quick reminder, you guys have less than a min…" Rachael was about to inform them before she went static.

"Rache!" Tobi called for her but had no response.

"Ok, we need to get out of here." He said to Randall who brought out his camera and took some picture of the pods and their surroundings. As they made their way back to the entrance of the train, they began to wear their overalls to conceal the goods they had stolen. The lights came back on and the doors came open, but the site they came to was not what they expected.

"Where the f*ck have you guys been?" The guard who questioned them earlier was yelling at them. The workers were running for their lives as a female humanoid creature was terrorizing the work area. It was tall and pale like the ones in the train. It had moon-colored irises and red teeth as though it had been drinking blood. It moved fast and swift, pouncing on anyone near it. Some workers were trying to subdue it with taser guns but it only proved stronger.

"How did a vamp get in here?" Tobi asked the guard.

"He stowed away in one of the containers… and aren't you supposed to be mute." The security guard inquired but Tobi paid no heed.

"Stop using tasers, it'll only make it angrier." Randall informed the workers after which one was grabbed and her shoulder was chomped off by the vamp.

"Why didn't your men bring any form of ammunition?" Tobi inquired as he brought out his torch and switched it to laser mode.

"We didn't think they'd be alive…What do you think you're doing?" The Guard asked. Tobi made his way to the creature and Randall followed behind him. Tobi then pointed the laser in the eyes of the vamp which tried shielding its vision. It then looked at Tobi and let out a disgruntled roar before charging toward him with Randall at a distance, reaching into his pocket waiting for the right moment. As the vamp got closer to Tobi, it leaped forward with murderous intent but Tobi pulled out a gas cannister and smoked himself. Randall pulled out his mini tranquilizer gun, attached a thermal scope and looked into the smoke to see Tobi's heat signature and that of the laser hotspot that Tobi had drawn on the vamp's face. He shot at the vamp hitting it just near the neck and then made his way through the gates at the other end amidst the smoke and confusion. Once the smoke had cleared, the workers and the security guard made their way to the point where the smoke began but the vamp was out cold and Tobi was nowhere to be seen.
