Chapter 3 - 3.Royal Traitor.

Jane sprang to her feet since she had never considered meeting her fiancé when he was in another person's body.

Even when their marriage was just a political marriage. They don't care for one another. There is no love between them. But he knew clearly that his fiancé, 'The Honorable Edric Evander'—the second son of Viscount Evander—was a kind and loyal man.

When Jene's family was accused of being traitors, he didn't dump her. A few days ago, he appeared in open court, making every effort to defend Jane's family. But, her family is still listed as a rebellious suspect who will soon receive a death penalty at the gallows in the near future.

"Duchess, you look unwell. Are you all right?"

Jane nodded. "Sure, I'm fine."

"I'm relieved to hear that."

Jane invited Edric to sit down, accompanying him to breakfast. She felt there was something strange about the man's behavior. But trying to think positively, if Edric met the Duchess just to greet someone of a higher position, a normal formal greeting.

"Please eat," Jane shouted.

"Thank you, Duchess. I hope my arrival does not interfere with your breakfast. I just wanted to greet you and report some of information regarding prisoners and the fate of their families related to recent uprising."

"Do you work on this case?"

Jane spoke louder. She was shocked to learn such information. Why has Edric never tell about this before.

"Duchess, are you all right."

Jane exhaled, "No! I mean, absolutely. I'm OK. It's only, what's her name, Miss Jane Carter, one of the rebel families, your fiance," she said.

When Edric nodded, he smiled just a little. "That's right, Duchess. Our engagement was solely motivated politics."

Jane's hands were clinched. She was perplexed as to why she needed to be angry about this fact.

"But Duchess, why do you seem shocked? Not that you know about this. You are the one who knows me the most after the Duke. I don't even think much about 'her'. My obligations to your family are far more important."

Jane kept quiet. That made ber feel irritated when she heard it. However, she had a query in her mind.

'When did Edric start interacting with the Duke family?'

In the afternoon, Jene visits the Turauoise palace, where Princess Ellena's tea party is held. The first thing she saw was a large greenhouse in which there were hundreds of flowers from various regions thriving and blooming.

It wasn't the first time Jane has visited Turauoise's castle- the Princess Ellena's palace.

When she first made her debut in high-class society, she got lost and ended up in front of the same greenhouse. It was an extremely dark night. In the shadows, she discovered a saw creature with teeth and fiery eyes, like a dream but it's real.

She saw a monster in drakness.

"You're here, Duchess Theodora."

A lady greeted her politely. She wore lacy blue dresswas covered in a pillbox that was the same over her head. Jane nodded. She didn't know the lady. She is younger than she is. Maybe one of Ellena's friends.

"Please allow me to show the way, Your Grace," She pleaded.

"Thank you."

"With pleasure. Pleased to serve,Your Grace."

Jane followed the lady. She heard the usual chitter of Princess Ellena's guests talking at a large table in the greenhouse.

Jane recognized some of them as Elt and Marcus' daughters. Princess Ellena's party was not attended any of the baron's daughters.

If she were still Jane Certer, she wouldn't be permitted to go to Princess Ellena's tea party. Given her very low aristocratic status.

"Duchess Irina."

Another voice appeared right beside Jane.

The woman's gray eyes and rose gold hair stood out against her smile.

She is Princess Ellena.

She owner of the Turacoise palace and cousin of Duchess Irina on the Queen's side.

"Greetings, I wish you good health, Your Royal Highness," Jane address.

Another Lady followed in her footsteps. Princess Ellena then took a seat in the chair.

"Nice to meet you, Duchess," Princess Ellena said. She continued, "I heard you had a bad incident last night."

"However, Duke

wasn't with you at the time, but. You must be in great fear."

Jane took a brief break. She grimaced.

"Princess, what do you mean?"

"I'm talking about last night's incident."

Jane looked in a daze and was in shock for a while minutes. She was confused. What happened last night? Why did she not remember anything at all, even though she was in Duchess Irina's body? Was it because it took place just before their souls were exchanged?

"You're not hurt, Duchess?" some lady asked.

"Ah, n-no." She struggled to find the appropriate words.

Jane looked away. She didn't even know she was attacked last night. When she woke up this morning, under normal circumstances, the maids had not brought up anything about the incident that happened the night before.

"You were almost killed as your sleep, one of the rebels captured last week. Luckily, your personal maid saw and screamed for help. "

Jane wasn't the only one who was taken aback. The ladies also showed the same expression.

"Rebels? Is he related to Baron Carter? They're imprisoned in a Magical tower."

"Ah, he's only the youngest son of the baron. He's been restrained." Princess Ellena shouted, "The Duke won't spare anyone who intends to assassinate his wife."

She placed her hankie on the table. Have the maid fill her cup with tea.

"I've heard that they'll be executed tomorrow afternoon."

"How can anyone escape the knights' surveillance?"

Another lady exclaimed, adding.

"Right. They will all be executed."

Jane's mind was blank. She was surprised the fact that aback the statement said Princess Ellena.

Paul... Paul Certer, his sixteen-year-old younger brother. How could he be arrested for nearly killing Duchess Irina.

Her brother wasn't a man to act rashly; he was a good man. It was impossible to consider murdering someone else.

What exactly happened? Why did things become more difficult when she could avoid execution at the gallows?
