Basileus's orange eyes bore into Ebari's golden ones and he felt warm with anger that tried to convince him to lash out at the other man.
However, he had just witnessed Varya completely breaking down over how much she loved her friend and he knew it wouldn't be right of him to act that way towards the man anymore - no matter what kind of history they had with one another.
The prince sat up a bit straighter in his chair as realization washed over him. He glanced at Varya wiping the tears away from her eyes and it caused him to audibly sigh.
"I suppose I should thank you," Basileus said quietly.
He had to force the words out since his pride was doing all it could to keep him from lowering himself to anyone else.
Ebari had started to turn back towards Varya but when he heard the words come from the prince's mouth, he looked at him with an expression full of shock.
