Amy took a deep breath. It was technically time for her to pass out food to all the mutants in the facility, but she was expecting someone today.
The sun blazed down as she watched the large truck turn the corner and pull up to the facility. The guards to either side of her readied their tranquilizer guns, prepared to shoot the men transporting the mutant.
Amy had been warned that he was hostile, prone to attack any scientists that got near him. He wasn't entirely comfortable around various other humans, either. She recognized this kind of behavior immediately, though it hadn't been as bad for her.
Donatello recognized and attacked Baxter Stockman who, according to past files and a little bit of digging, was a scientist. He also wasn't the most comfortable around humans, especially if he hadn't seen them before- after all, she'd experienced it first-hand. Amy hoped that the two's similar behavior, along with the fact that a mutant turtle was being brought to the facility, meant that they were brothers… if not, then she would have to keep looking.
The truck pulled to a stop in front of her. Amy blinked once, not realizing that she had been lost in thought for that long. The truck was turned off, and the sound of a door opening and slamming shut was heard. Amy watched as a middle-aged man with black hair and a clean-shaven face made his way to her.
"Are you Miss Amelie Mamen?" he asked. Amy nodded stiffly, plastering what she hoped was a friendly smile on her face. She stuck out her hand and the man took it.
"Yes, I am," she said.
"My name is Michael Denning," he told her. He smiled warmly at her. "But you can call me Mike."
Amy nodded and looked at the truck.
"He's in there?"
"Sure is," he told her. "Gave the other guys a hell of a time but didn't give me much trouble."
"Really?" Amy asked. Mike nodded, then shrugged.
"He isn't very talkative from what I've gathered," he said. Amy nodded and glanced at the truck again.
"Can we bring him inside?" she asked. He nodded.
"Sure can do," he said. They walked up to the truck and he opened the back door. Amy took in the sight before her with a horrified expression on her face.
The mutant turtle that she had managed to save was cut and bleeding in multiple spots. He was tied to a Dollie with a muzzle covering his mouth. His eyes were open, but they were downcast, almost as if the life had been sucked out of him.
When Amy managed to get past what had been done to him, she noticed that he had freckles and baby belle blue eyes. Some kind of orange mask was tied around the top of his head, revealing his eyes.
"Horrifying, right?" Mike asked her. Amy turned somewhat angry eyes to him, but he was staring at the turtle. "It's disgusting what they did to him."
Amy's expression softened. Mike seemed like a nice enough guy.
"Let's go," she said softly. She climbed aboard the truck, getting the turtle's attention. His gaze narrowed on her, giving her a soft glare as she got closer.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you," she said. She fingered her badge, then held it up for him to see. Maybe as long as she wasn't a scientist, she stood a better chance at gaining his trust. "My name is Amy Mamen, I'm a nurse and healthcare provider here at M.C.C."
The turtle's eyes widened in fear, much like Donatello's did when Amy first told him where he was. She wondered why they both seemed so frightened of the building… it wasn't like they were going to cut them open or anything.
Though, judging by the rumors that had been flying around the building-
Amy inwardly chastised herself for letting her thoughts wander. She turned her attention back to the turtle, who was still staring at her wide-eyed and frightened.
"I've asked for you to be brought here," she told him. "If I'm right about who you are, then your brother is waiting inside for you."
The turtle's eyes widened a little more, mostly in shock. Amy could see some light reignite in his eyes.
A little ray of hope.
She smiled at him.
"I need you to trust me right now, ok?" she asked. "Once we get you inside, feel free to not trust me at all, but I want to get you inside where it's safe."
He seemed to think for a moment before nodding. Amy nodded back at him, then turned around to look at Mike, who was standing outside the truck.
"Let's go ahead and bring him in," she told him.
