Chereads / The Murim War [1] / Chapter 2 - Prologue

Chapter 2 - Prologue

"I see, so that's your story. It was quite a ride, I must say. But I'm confused about various things still."

A peculiar voice spoke to me, as I found myself surrounded by nothingness. All I could see was nothing, feel nothing, and my hearing was limited to his voice alongside mine. In an all-engulfing void of reflectionless black, that I entered after my demise, I spoke with an invisible being who proclaimed himself to be a God. I was curtailed to a mere dot within this void that he calls his 'Personal Space'.

"I apologize if I upset you, I can try to improve and narrate my story in a better way."

"No, I don't like hearing the same thing over again."

When I entered this void after my demise, I assumed that it was the afterlife. That was the only plausible way to think of my situation. Though it was nothing like the Heavens people claimed to have awaited after death, I chose not to ponder further into it.

But my worldview on that aspect was shaken when I heard this voice shortly after coming here. Apparently, there is no afterlife. People die, and that was the end for them, nothing after. But I was a special case, I was summoned to the personal space of God.

"May I ask something?"

"Ask Away," The god responded promptly to all my queries, and though I was suspicious of all his capabilities, I wore a flat face throughout my exchange with him and tried not to provoke him.

"How can you prove yourself to be the omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent being that you claim to be?"

That was a valid question, as Illusion Arts of renowned martial masters were strong enough to replicate this situation as it is.

He hummed in response, "I see... Good question! Now that I'm pleased by your story, I shall grant you a wish! That should prove my capabilities, right?"

"Yes... It would, but what can a dead man ask for?"

"Exactly, What can a dead man ask for? You know exactly what he asks for, you're a scholar after all!" All of a sudden he seemed intrigued by the answer.

I was no fool, I knew exactly how to catch con-men. 'Ask them to do something they can't!'

"Reincarnate me into the past with an unparalleled body constitution, also give me the ultimate and unparalleled arts that a martial artist can possess. If you're a God, it shouldn't be tough, right?"

Illusion arts are tough to maintain as they consumed ridiculous amounts of Qi, he possibly couldn't use Illusion Arts to replicate a whole world and then maintain it for a hundred years for me.

"So you're the greedy type, huh? Good, I like it. So be it!"

As we were conversing, I realised a flaw in my argument

'What? Wait... How could a peasant pull off Illusion Arts? Why didn't I consider that?'

"Now you realise it,"

'He can read my mind!'

On a sudden, the black void, that I had been in for a few hours as I conversed with God, turned white. A blinding light abused my frail old eyes. My naked body was severely pained all over as if needles pierced through my skin. My wise old hair began to fall off.

I screamed to no avail and dropped unconscious.
