I am Jacob Rothschild.
I am what you would call a genuine rich kid. Born rich, going to the most prestigious institutions, getting admitted to the best university in the country (not through the backdoor though) then finally joining the family business. That's how the children of the rich families usually spend their lives.
Mine was no exception. I was content with how my life was going on. Because when the future is certain, you don't usually have to worry about anything, just make the best use of the present.
I had to do my best to live up to my father's expectations. You may think I was forced to do so. But to be honest, being born in a rich family, getting the best treatment in childhood is more like an investment done by the family. It's a give and take type of situation. They give you almost everything you can ask for and in return they want you to work hard for the family. It's a fair trade. I had no complaints about this.
Both my parents were busy handling the family business. I grew up being taken care of by the family butler and the maids. Though I hardly got to meet my parents in person, I didn't feel bad about it. I understood their positions. It wasn't like they were in a vacation. They were working as hard as they could. I admired them for that. I think it was this admiration that made me accept the cycle of life of the rich.
Time passed by and it was my time to lend a hand in the family business. I started as an normal employee at my dad's office. It was how the Rothschild family works. First you have to join in as a normal employee. Then work your way up. No special treatments will be given. You not only have to prove to your family but also to the other employees in the business that you are capable of shouldering the responsibility to carry on the family business. That's how my father did, so did my grandfather and their previous generations.
Well, at first it was all going as usual. Nothing out of the ordinary. The colleagues I had at first were quite friendly. They were the reason the job didn't get too boring.
Things messed up after I took a paid leave. I was returning home after submitting my application. I was driving my car. Took the shortage route to get home quickly. I was in a hurry because I was really looking forward to my vacation. I think too much excitement is what caused my downfall.
Out of nowhere, a bird crashed on my windshield. It might have been a bat. But I didn't have the luxury to verify. Due to the sudden incident which I wasn't looking forward to, I panicked and without any thoughts I turned the steering wheel right. The car was going at around 80 MPH and it went into the sidewalks. Fortunately there wasn't anyone on the sidewalks. Well, fortunate for them but not for me.
The car crashed into a fire hydrant. The shock that came with the crash made my head hit against the steering wheel making me lose consciousness.
It was a normal car accident. But the abnormality began after I woke up.
