Chapter 34 - Chapter Thirty-four

After a hetic day with Carlos,I was tired. I guess I won't be taking Coco out for her walk like I planned. I lied down on my bed and fell asleep. By the time I woke up,it was already morning. Wow! So fast! Time does really fly fast these days. I went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. Aunt was already up and was making breakfast. She wore a grey yoga pants and a white top which had the caption,"GIRL POWER" on it. She made oatmeal and omelettes for breakfast. Ann was sitting on her highchair and was playing with her food.

"Good morning Aunt"I said, opening the fridge

I brought out a bottled water and uncapped it. I poured it in a glass and drank slowly.

"Morning Jocelyn. How are you?"Aunt asked, turning off the cooker

"I'm good"I replied, keeping the bottle back in the fridge

"Good to hear that. Breakfast is ready. Sit down while I serve you"Aunt said, washing her hands in the sink

"Not to worry Aunt,I can serve myself"I said

"Okay"She replied, cleaning her hands with a kitchen cloth

"Aunt?"I called

"Yes Jocelyn"She replied

"Are you going out?"I asked, observing her movements

"Yes. I actually forgot to tell you, I'm going to my yoga class and won't be back until noon"Aunt said, cleaning Ann's face with a napkin

"Plus I'm taking Ann to the hospital. She has an appointment with the paediatrician this morning"She added

"Okay"I said

"Okay now, take care of yourself. If you need anything or any assistance, you can ask Carlos for help"Aunt said, keeping Ann in her stroller

"Do you I have to ask Carlos? I can do it by myself"I said

"I know you can but London is busy place. I don't want to you to go missing"Aunt said

"Missing? I'm not a child anymore,Aunt"I said

"I know but you aren't used to London. You might take the wrong route home"Aunt said

"Yeah, you're right!"I said

"Okay. I'm leaving. Have fun. You can help yourself with anything in the fridge except for my cheese. Got that?"Aunt said

"Yes Aunt! Have fun at yoga!"I said with a grin

"I will"Aunt said, slowly pushing the stroller out the door.

She closed the door behind her and left. I ate the omelette and left the oatmeal. I don't really like oatmeal but I'm a fan of oats. Coco walked up to me, whimpering and rolling on the floor. I knew she was hungry. She does that anything hunger calls. I searched the cabinets in the kitchen to see if Aunt had any dog food. Luckily,I found a bag full of dog food and poured it in a bowl for her. I placed it next to the dinning table and continued eating my breakfast. Seeing the food, she ran to the bowl and barked cheerfully. If Coco wasn't a dog,she will definitely make a good actress. I finished eating and washed the plates. I went to the living room and turned on the TV. I scanned through the channels to see if there was something interesting on I could watch. There were a lot of news and shows on documentaries but I wasn't interested in any of them. I turned off the TV and went to the veranda. I watched as people walked past Aunt's building. I saw a middle-aged woman with a blue beret coming out of the building. She had her dogs on leashes and took them for a work. Then, there was this food truck which parked in between the alley and the building. Little children were trying a puppy but the dog was on the run. Pigeons gathered around a white fountain,in search of food and probably a mate. London seemed peaceful. I wished it would be like this forever. Speaking of peaceful, that jerk, Carlos came out of the building with some mails in his hands. He went over to a mailbox and dropped his letters in it. He left the mailbox and went back to the building. He looked up and saw me.

"Hey!"He said, waving his hand to get my attention

I was still angry at him for what he said and ignored him.

"Hey! I know you can hear me! Just wanted to let you know you still owe me a thank you for saving from those bullies yesterday"He shouted

"No,I don't"I replied

"Uh,yes you do!"He said

"The last time I checked,I had things under control"I said

"By allowing those guys bully you? C'mon, just say the word and everything will be settled"He said, moving backwards

"Umm... Carlos?"I said, trying to warning him about the fountain behind him

"Huh? First time you call me by name instead of jerk. What a surprise!"He said, still moving backwards

"You're about to..."I said

He fell into the fountain and scared the pigeons away.

"I tried to warn you but you're so stubborn"I said, laughing at him

I didn't realize I was laughing. He didn't say a word and kept on staring at me with a grin.

"You know you look more beautiful when you smile. It looks better on you than that long face you always put on"He said, not minding he was still in the fountain

I stopped laughing and felt a bit nervous. I went back inside and sat down on the sofa. I Iied down and use the arm of the sofa to support my head. Coco jumped on top of me and began licking my face.

"Do you want to go out for a walk? And stretch those limbs yours?"I said

She waggled her tail when she heard walk and barked cheerfully.

"I'll take that as a yes. Lemme grab you your leash and change"I said, keeping her down on the floor

I went to my room, freshened up and wore something causal. I came out with her leash and attached to her collar.

"Shall we?"I asked

She waggled her tail and started panting. I went back to the veranda and checked if Carlos was still there. He had left and went back to the building. I was still wondering why I left nervous when he saw me laughing. I didn't want to believe Aunt's predication either. I wasn't ready for another rollercoaster ride. Coco's barked reminded me of her walk and we left the apartment. I don't know where Aunt kept the keys to her apartment. I closed the door and hoped no one realizes that it's not locked. Coco and I went to the elevator and arrived at the lobby. She was more excited about her walk than I was. We walked up to the end of Aunt's street and returned home.
