Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 — Eye of the Sage

Slowly, Ethan opened his eyes. His vision was blurred by the excess sunlight on his face.

Still a little dizzy from what had happened, he looked down at his left arm. He noticed that the cloth, used as a bandage, was bathed in blood.

He got up and headed towards the bathroom. When he looked in the mirror, cleaning the wound, he realized his deplorable condition.

The boy splashed some water on his face. His face looked terrible, much worse than usual. His lips were white and his eyes sunken.

"Luckily the wound didn't get infected, the worst part is my lack of blood, but I'm better than yesterday."

After washing his face, he began to reason again. I was thinking about the next steps and what I should do now.

"This place is no longer safe, they already know my location. Even though I don't know the head of loans, I need to be very careful. These people don't let these things pass. I am in danger of dying."

His mouth was dry from lack of water. He drank as much as possible to hydrate himself and cleanse the blood that was still in his body.

With the plan in mind, he began to gather all the valuables he had. There weren't many, just her two changes of clothes and her school bag.

The only place he could go was to school. Without money he didn't have many options. At least at school he would have breakfast and lunch. That's how he's been fed all these years.

"I can't leave yet. I'm leaving this place for good. Which means I won't get another chance to look up anything about these runes. Their being here is still a mystery, I've never heard of runes appearing around the world."

He knew his school would start in 30 minutes, so he headed towards the hole in the ground. Looked for anything of value on the site.

Among the rubble, he managed to find a stone at the bottom of the hole. It was completely soiled. It was almost a span in size, very different from the previous runes.

The boy began to clean and found a large rune symbol in the middle of the stone. The tincture was golden, the symbols were far more complex than the minor runes. It was possible to identify a symbol of an eye among the details.

"Is that a rune? She looks very different, both in size and patterns. It appears to have an eye symbol in the middle."

Ethan thought about keeping it, but he didn't have many ways now. Any type of Attribute would be useful now. He put strength into the rune and it slowly unraveled.

A new window appeared for Ethan, showing smaller text:

Acquired skill "Eye of the Sage" Rank A

"An ability, I didn't expect that. I thought it would be a new stat or more stat points than usual."

Excited by his discovery, the boy activated his Status window in order to see what had changed.

*Skills

(New!) Eye of the Sage (A) Lv1

"Eye of the Sage Lv1… a Rank A skill. How should I use it?"

Ethan looked from side to side and tried to use the Eye of the Sage wherever he looked.

I had never used a skill before, I was still too young to understand how to do it, so I thought aloud in an attempt to make it work.

"Eye of the Sage, analyze."

After thinking about activation, how to use it was fixed in his mind.

When he thought about analyzing something, his right eye would automatically analyze it. His eye entered a white iris shape with golden details, similar to those carved into the rune.

A small window appeared in front of the objects.

(Schoolbag)

Ethan watched in disbelief. Stunned, he analyzed other things.

(Book)

(Schoolbag)

(Mat)

(Wood)

Disappointed, expected much more from a skill. Just seeing the names of things was pretty silly for an ability called Eye of the Sage.

"I expected more from a Rank A skill. I can only read the names of things, and it still gives me a little headache after a while. Is she bad for being lv1? Or is Rank A the worst grade? It makes no sense for Rank to be the worst grade, as A is the top grade in schools and tests. It must be the level."

As he was analyzing things, Ethan noticed a small detail that he missed. In the middle of the bloody floor was a pocketknife. He held the blade. His wound burned as he only remembered the pain. He took the knife toward the sink to wash it.

"You'd better take this to my defense."

Ethan looked at himself in the mirror before leaving, curious, he used to analyze himself.

(Runic)

"I understood! This skill has a use. I can find out if people are runic or not. Maybe if I use it on a rune, I can know what it is before I use it. Now I understand the name of the skill. Just one thing that intrigued me, does the eye change color just for me or can everyone see it?"

After discovering this function of his skill, he was excited about the discoveries. These feelings that he had never felt before seemed to be becoming more and more common.

His cold gaze began to slowly fade, but he couldn't let go of it now, he needed to keep his rational mind active. If you were controlled by your emotions, you would do impulsive things like the last time. He wouldn't always be so lucky.

As he prepared to leave the house, he noticed movements in front of her.

The man was old, above average height, with a big belly. Her hair was in a small ponytail, which showed her entrances. The beard was unshaven, he didn't seem to care much about his appearance.

He paced up and down the street, as if looking for something. His clothes were old social clothes, with many marks of use.

What intrigued Ethan the most was that his physique was so good for someone overweight. His fat was all located in his belly, but there was no flaccidity. His body was full of muscles hidden by the mass.

On his hand were two bandages, as if he were an old fighter gone out of shape.

The boy noticed the man's movement. I suspect that slowly, he approached the house. Just in case, he activated his ability to find out if the man was a runic.

(Runic)

Ethan took a little astonishment at the message. Honestly, he didn't expect it to be a runic, but it turned out to be.

"If there is a Runic category, it means that not everyone can use the runes, otherwise it would be appearing human."

That basic deduction from Ethan made him sure the man was after him. This only made his situation worse, apparently he got mixed up with someone powerful.

Sending a runic after him meant he had others under his command. It scared Ethan for a few seconds, but he controlled his emotions to think of a way out.

Slowly, towards the bathroom, he leaned on the toilet to climb up to the small window of the shower. He tossed his backpack over the other side and crawled out. When he fell to the ground, he found himself in a small alley where the garbage was placed. He crept in the direction of the school, until he blended in with the crowd.

Ydro entered the house with a kick on the door. He quickly took in his surroundings as he searched the house.

In the bathroom, he saw the huge amount of blood on the floor. The house was a filth, traces of blood were everywhere. That dog had soiled everything.

"With all this blood around the house, how did this animal not die? Something doesn't smell right here."

The man with his fighting instincts knew the boy had already fled. I was just looking for clues to his location. But in that house there was nothing but blood and mess.

"Where would a stray dog go when his shelter was invaded?"

At this exact moment he heard a school bell ring very loudly. A small smile appeared on his face. Slowly, he walked to the school.

"The dog goes where there is food."
