After the battle, we made sure to check the perimeter once more before calling it a night. I was tired and ready to sleep, but at the same time restless and fearful. This was a huge attack, one that could've ended up being fatal if we hadn't been quick to act. I was damn scared and anxious about the whole situation, and just like everyone else, wondering what could have caused it. What the hell could have motivated so many monsters to head this way, despite there being ten dragons guarding the harbor? Is there something more powerful out there? Something stronger than we were? It would have to be inorder to elicit such a reaction. A monster that it cable of taking on so many creatures at once, or could it be... OH SHIT.
"Its the military." I said, startling everyone.
We had been walking in silence back to where the cabins were, hoping to sleep off the scare of a lifetime. Nobody had spoken a word since we finished the last check, so my statement had been bound to jolt some people. Especially the deeper meaning of it.
"What?" Kyle asked.
"The monsters that just attacked us. It's because they were running from the military and we were in their way, so they did what they had to inorder to escape." I said.
Everyone just stared at me. Although they might not want to believe it, I can tell that it's the conclusion that they're brains are coming to. After all what else could cause so many creatures to flee than a powerful strike. Something the military would have no problem in doing. As they all came to the same verdict, Leo spoke up.
"If that really is the case, then we may have no choice but to pack up and leave." He claimed.
"WHAT!" William shouted, "You want us leave because of THEM. We shouldn't have to undo our hard work when we can protect what we have."
"William we can't just start a fight with them. They have plenty of people willing to fight, we have ten, that's it. If we try to face them then we run the risk of being caught. You remember what Anna and Hestia said. They are looking for dragon riders. They want to use us for there own gain." Leo argued, "Its not worth the risk to fight back against those who can and will over power us."
"But its worth the risk to work our asses off building a community just so they can claim it. This our home and we have the right to defend it. This isn't typical America, its survival at its finest and we deserve to survive however we see fit." William claimed.
Leo shook his head, clearly not liking how his brother was implying on attacking an armed and dangerous regime.
"I know you feel that way William," I started, "But if we try to defend this place, we can end up surrounded from land to air to sea. They still have the vehicles and equipment to attack us on every end. We won't stand a chance against such a large scale attack."
"And who are you to say that," Hannah interjected, " You've only been here for what, a month, and all of a sudden you know better. You have know idea how much time we have invested in this place. How much time we spent here. William is right, we shouldn't throw it all away just because they have more weak ass idiots who probably don't know how to shoot. We should fight back, and if it comes down to it, we should burn them down."
I looked at her, completely flabbergasted at her stupidity. Does she think that just be we are dragon riders we have the right to kill other people. How could she be okay with potentially starting a war!
"Are you STUPID!" I screamed, scaring everyone. "If you actually think it's okay to start a war with them then you have to be stupid or psychotic. They have plenty of fire power to kill us, and we have to think of our dragons as well. What would we accomplish in attacking. We would show the world that dragons shouldn't be trusted and that we would rather fight for superiority than ban together to survive. That we don't care about others and making a life for ourselve, just making it difficult for them. If that's your goal then you don't deserve to be a dragon rider."
I was panting with anger as she just stared like I grew a second head. I was done with her selfish and "I don't care" attitude. If this is what she wants to be, than I will put her on her ass so fast she won't know what hit her. I was pissed beyond measure and I was done with her bitchy behavior.
"Enough! We are not going to attack the military, and if it comes down to it we will move. I won't risk lives over land. We can find a better place to live, one that is worth defending. I promise that if it comes down to moving, it will be the only time it happens." Leo stated.
He then left for his cabin and I left for mine. I was done with the conversation. So with them still standing around like fish out of water, Hestia and I left for our cabin for some much needed rest. Hopefully I wouldn't have to hear Hannah's nonsense again until tomorrow. Hell if I had known this would be a daily thing, I would have stayed at the shack.
{_I feel the same, but we don't have much of a choice but to put up with it. She just doesn't get it, that's all._} Hestia commented.
I nodded, knowing she was right, but still pissed as fuck right now. She needs to wake up, and get her head out of her ass. Stretching my arms, I walk right to my bed and crash immediately. My body was dead tired and my mind was over the events of today. As I drift into sleep, I wonder how long we have before we have to leave. I just hop it will be the last time.
...
I was dreaming about being in a large room. The walls were cracked and covered in scorch marks and blood. The floor had a layer of dust, blood, and glass on it. When I look up, the rooftop was made of glass, but it was shattered. That's not the worst part though. No it was the vines. They were black and red and seemed to cover everywhere but the throne in the middle. Each one pulsed and leaked blood and black sludge. The sludge immediately evaporated, but the blood stayed. It was horrifying, seeing the vines seep into the crack on the walls and creep across the floor like snakes, to see it bleed like a butchered corpse. The throne was the only thing untouched and preserved. It was the only beautiful thing left.
The throne was white marble outline with prussian blue cushions for the head, arms, back and bottom. The marble was encrusted with diamonds and the top of throne had a golden dragon head with ruby red eyes. It was beautiful, but not as beautiful as the woman sitting on it.
"It is good to see you again, Anna." Averia said.
"What is this?" I ask, gesturing to the vines.
Averia sighed, "This is from the Great Evil. It is the sickness that spreads after the war is over. It's why we opened the portal."
I shuddered, "Did it come through as well."
She shook her head and I breathed a sigh of relief. The sight of these vines was enough to make me want to hurl. It really was a sickness, and invoked it too.
"Why are you showing me this." I asked.
"Because this is the present of Eudora, and the future that could befall Earth." She said, "You haven't accepted your role, and this could cost us everything."
I haven't accepted my role. Really? Really, this is why she called me here. Well maybe I haven't been able to because me and Hestia have been to worried about staying alive. God, and not to mention trying to help the others too.
"I understand you have a lot to do, but you must embrace your true self." Averia claimed.
"HOW, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THAT." I shouted. "How am I supposed to become a ruler. You NEVER explained how I could do that. What am I supposed to do?"
I was pleading for her at the end of it, wanting to avoid this. I didn't want this to happen to Earth, I wanted to help. I don't understand how can I stop this, how can I end this?
Averia nodded to me, as if she understood my plea, "That's why I called you, to help you. Not to admonish you." She continued, "You must train first, before you can unite others. Your powers stretch across different fields. I suggest you go to the merpeople, they will help you. You already met some, just ask for Adiana."
"Adiana is my friend, she is a beast tamer and will help with your aquatic ability. She will also guide you to your next trainer." She added.
I nodded, but still had a few question..."Do I have to leave the Knights."
"No, you need all the help you can get inorder to build a new world. They are capable of providing that. Don't be afraid to tell them the truth. Even if the riders won't believe you, the dragons will." Averia said.
"What about Hestia, she said she has access to other memories. What does that mean?" I asked.
Averia sighed, "I can't explain that, but Salia will. All I can tell you is to trust Hestia's knowledge, but also your instincts."
I closed my eyes, wondering if I would really be able to do this. All of this seems to be happening so fast. As if I was on a faster setting then everyone else. How in the world did my twenty fourth birthday become a catalyst to me ruling two worlds?
My eyes shot open, but just before I could ask Averia if my birthday had anything to do with this, my vision became hazy. Darkness was starting to develop, and I could no longer see Averia or the throne room. It was like someone was dimming the lights, until everything was pitch black.
Just like that, my eyes opened, for real this time, and I was back in my cabin. The sun was out and I could hear the dragons moving about the base. I sat up in my bed, wondering if I should tell Hestia first, or just wait until everyone else was up.
'the future that could befall Earth'
Averia's prediction echoed in my ears. Like a sound track, on that was on loop. Oh boy, this wasn't going to be easy to explain.
