Hey, can't hang out tonight. Nat's been missing her best friend, so we're doing a movie night. Hope that's okay? 

Persephone's thumb hovered over the screen as she reread Ginny's message for the third time. Although she understood, a pang of disappointment settled in her chest. She knew she couldn't monopolize the latter's time, not when she also had friends who wanted to hang out with her.

She's with her. Still, there was an unfamiliar unease creeping in—an annoying tug at the back of her mind that she couldn't quite shake.

"Hey, you good?" Ariel's voice pulled her out of her thoughts.

Persephone glanced up, realizing she'd been zoning out. Ariel stood nearby, arms crossed and brow raised. "You've been staring at your phone for a solid five minutes."

"I'm good," Persephone replied, forcing her tone to sound casual.

She didn't look convinced. "Doesn't seem like it."
