Chapter 78 - Current State of Midori [3]

(Violet Storm POV)

But during his explanation, he never mentioned the purpose of Ataxia attacking us, which was the entire reason for this conversion.

'Why target us? Why does killing us help Ataxia?'

I relayed my thoughts to Jules. He sighed, before leaning back on his chair.

"Their purpose was probably to turn the nobles and the public against the government. Especially the former."

"How does killing us achieve that?"

"You know that Central High is managed by the government?"

"Yeah."

"Though nobility has some influence over the school such as their children being allowed to have attendants, this school is effectively only managed by the government."

"That means the job of defending the school. If students died while at school or school-related events, the nobles will blame the government. Moreso if their direct descendants have died. It doesn't matter if it is the fault of outside interference, it still highlights their incompetence."

"So that means the nobles will retaliate."

James articulated the logical conclusion in a depressed tone.

"Not immediately. Though they may be pissed, they will not come to arms immediately. They would first combine their resources with the government to attempt to find who did this.

"Though nobles have some connections to the dark side of society, Ataxia thrives in the underworld, so they will not have much luck in finding them. Meanwhile, Ataxia will then fan the flames between them until one decides to strike the other."

"Though I sympathise with them, this course of action will cause a lot of blood to be spilt. Many innocents will die in the process." Amina interrupted Julius.

"Though nobles are supposed to be under the government, in reality, it is not so simple. The military may have more mages, but the mages in noble families are generally stronger, making their strength about even. After both sides are weakened, Ataxia then can easily overthrow the government." Amina gave the general gist of the potential outcome.

"Though even without Ataxia, the dark forces have grown large thanks to them being unchecked. It will be our generation who is going to fix this, so we will face a lot of pressure."

"Is there any way to overcome this?" From all this depressing talk, James must have judged that there was no hope.

Julius smiled.

"Yes. Become strong enough that nobody can stop you from achieving your goal."

A classic answer. Though I was still pleased there was still light at end of the tunnel.

"Anything else?"

Teacher Julius wanted to know if the class had any more questions. During this whole discussion, we were basically students.

"Anyway Violet, I forget to ask before, but do need help? You killed for the first time. The therapists are still here if you need them."

As soon as Amina mentioned that, the memories of me cutting down the mages came flooding back to me.

My mind subconsciously suppressed the memories of that occurrence. I knew that we'd been attacked when I woke up, but the specifics of the attack eluded me. When I was reminded of it, everything all came back.

I distinctly remember the sight of the dead bodies. All were bleeding, with some being so brutally mutilated that a horror film seemed like a Disney movie by comparison. Some people had their organs strewn across the floor.

I suddenly felt the urge to vomit. Seeing my reaction every rushed to my side, with James rubbing back to help me calm down. I could hear the sound of my heavy breathing filling the room.

"Violet, you're hyperventilating. Slow down and take a deep breath. You are fine."

Jules was trying to comfort me. After a minute of my panic attack, I started calming down. Even though I was fine on the outside, my hands were still shaking and I was drenched in a cold sweat.

Amina was deeply apologetic for causing this state. I reassured her that wasn't her fault, I would've eventually remembered my suppressed memories.

"I guess that's the normal reaction after they've realised they had just killed someone. We should clear the room and let Violet get some help."

Jules says the logical thing and soon a doctor comes into the room. They leave afterwards going to attend classes, with Dr Ibarra being there to help me.

***

(Julius Argenti POV)

As I sat in the classroom I reminisced about what I learned this year. I was currently in English class doing some text analysis.

The curriculum was similar to one back on Earth, with some topics being different. At the end of the year, we had to give our GATs (Generalised Academic Tests) to pass on to the next year.

Though thanks to being in the mage course, it won't matter if you pass, but you may be given a remedial class over the summer holidays.

AN: I forget to mention it, but summer goes from Dec-Feb, Autumn from Mar-May, Winter from Jun-Aug, and Spring from Sep-Nov. This is the seasonal cycle on the Midori continent. School starts from Feb and goes till Dec.

I was confident in passing the exam as I learned most of it in my previous life.

In terms of mage training, I didn't learn as much I as hoped. I learned some new techniques and increased maximum on my basic techniques.

Most of the training revolved around basic fighting skills that everyone needed to have regardless of combat style or affinity. I already learned most of it at SUITE, though I did pick up a few neat tricks as well.

My goal for the end of the year was to reach the standard of B rank. Though in some aspects I was already B rank, I was still officially C rank and needed to be tested to upgrade my rank.

But I wasn't too worried about not achieving that. We had a class upcoming that involved us learning a technique called {Soul Space}.

It was a technique that allowed us to enter our souls. It was a representation of our desires and wishes. The main purpose for using this technique was to learn more about ourselves and our connection to mana.

An indirect result of entering the {Soul Space} would be that maximum for techniques would increase, meaning that I would be able to achieve the standard of B rank.

The reason why this technique was taught earlier is that if you don't have good enough mana control, you could easily damage or shatter your would which would damage or permanently cripple you. If your soul was shattered, you would die.

"Julius, stop spacing out."

Mrs Lebanc threw a whiteboard marker at me while I was in my thoughts. With my reflexes, I easily caught it and gave it back to her.

Nobody laughed, as students who still attended the class were still affected by the attack last week.

I concentrated on the class, unaware of the schemes being made in the dark.

AN: Volume 2 is over. Thank you for reading the novel and comment if you enjoyed it. They give me the motivation to keep writing this novel.
