Chapter 33 - DIG A HOLE FOR ME!

The sound of Kirsi's heart beating fast became background music for her. She hides embarrassment as high as the Eiffel Tower behind her stern and elegant look. So that her face was on top, Kirsi changed her position to kneel. Her knees were resting on the couch, with Cedric between them. She tucked her hair behind her ear so as not to distract Cedric. Then her soft hands cupped Cedric's cheeks which were as warm as the sun, guiding him to look at her.

Their eyes met each other now. Kirsi moved forward closing the distance between them. The two's warm breath exuded the fresh aroma of the apple and grape mixture. The closer the distance between them, the faster Kirsi's heart beats. She wanted to close her eyes, but the feeling of not wanting to lose had overpowered her embarrassment. As a result, the two of them were still looking at each other when Kirsi's lips gently brushed against Cedric's hot and supple lips. She did nothing but press her lips against his. Cedric's stomach clenched without her knowing. The man was trying desperately not to laugh out loud.

After five seconds had passed, Kirsi broke free and moved backwards. Cedric rebelled from Kirsi's cupped hands on his cheeks and moved towards her neck instead. To hide his amused smile, Cedric just rubbed the tip of his nose into the soft, fragrant crook of her neck. He did this for a few moments before his face was pinned by an amused Kirsi's shoulder.

"Sorry," Kirsi whispered softly.

"Mm." Cedric didn't back down. On the other hand, not only his face, but his body also moved forward with him. His hands supporting Kirsi's back gently pushed her towards him. His face was now buried in the crook between her neck and shoulders. His mouth gave a kiss as light as cotton before starting to open and do small nibbles along the way. Cedric sucked and bit. This continues until there is no room left to add another kiss mark.

Cedric stepped back with a look of satisfaction on his face. His drooling lips emphasized a slightly different mischievous impression. Kirsi caught Cedric's face and pursed his lips once more. This time it wasn't just sticking their lips together. She won't know where to get the courage from, when she gets too carried away in this romantic atmosphere and becomes even bolder with her mouth. Her tongue took part in colonizing Cedric's mouth. Threads of saliva started dripping from the union of their lips. One tries to be active on top and one pretends to be passive on the bottom. When it was time for her lungs to scream from suffocation, Kirsi was the first to pull away.

Cedric's face was the first thing she saw. A flawless face. Kirsi's gaze focused on the eyes looking at her lips, making her glance at his too. If it weren't for the glint of saliva on his lips, Cedric wouldn't look like someone who had just done something perverted. Kirsi was so embarrassed that she soon averted her eyes. At a time like this, she wished someone would knock on the door and...

Hell, the door wasn't even locked.

The great and dignified Grand Marshal was standing still not far from the open bedroom door. In his hands was a basket of fruit neatly arranged. His gaze was still unwavering, as if he had never seen anything.

The first to express their embarrassment was Kirsi. She nearly jumped out of Cedric's arms, but he swiftly held her by the hips, whispering under his breath that sudden movements were bad for pregnant women. Instead, the man carefully picked her up and dropped her on the sofa right beside him, then he himself stood up and casually greeted Alastair, both acting as if nothing had ever happened before.

Whether it was because Cedric was too good at hiding his feelings, or because he was basically shameless, what was certain was that Kirsi really wanted to find a hole and bury herself. Her face looked normal, but if one noticed, the tips of her ears were red and her expression was stiffer than usual. She sat with her back straight on the sofa.

Alastair handed his fruit pack to Cedric, and glancing at Kirsi, he said, "I've confirmed how you are. I'll be back."

Kira instantly stood up straight and rebutted politely, "Sit down for a moment, Your Highness."

The request of the person being visited cannot be denied. It was Alastair's principle not to argue with a woman no matter how wrong they were, because arguing with them was the same as inviting endless debate. He nodded and entered soon after being brought on by Cedric. A single chair was pulled up and he sat there. His eyes looked at Kirsi who seemed fine. Alastair didn't like to question the obvious, so he didn't say anything and just waited for someone to open up the topic for him.

Cedric who was in the middle between two people, one too lazy to talk and one too shy to speak, mediated wisely by opening the subject first, and said kindly, "Brother, I heard recently that you will be transferred to the Alba area for a while?" his hands were busy peeling another apple and reshaping it in a shape of a rabbit.

"Yes," Alastair replied. He took one sweet and tiny rabbit and ate it in one bite. He continued, "I'll be looking for one field assistant to bring on."

"What's wrong with Noah?"

"Another task."

"Ah," Cedric nodded. "When is it? "

"The exact date hasn't been decided yet. But maybe the middle of next week."

"Follow-up the capital case?"

Alastair shrugged his shoulders, "I don't think so. There was a similar case that happened there. But I guess it might not have something to do with it."

"Hm. I'll come along."

Alastair frowned. He then glanced at Kirsi who was still petrified and looked again at Cedric, this time with a judgmental look. "Take care of your wife first. Besides, I won't be long."

Cedric remained stubborn with his stance. "I won't be long either."

"No. "

Cedric knew that Alastair was tough and firm. He will not hesitate to offend people who neglect their obligations, for example like this husband who ignores his sick wife and prefers to follow him to a city on the country's outskirts. Cedric could suddenly come along on D-day, but Alastair would definitely not forgive a stowaway who didn't have permission to enter his ship, so it was certain that he would be kicked out halfway. The Grand Marshal was such a person. If he said no, then even if the heavens fell and the earth shook, his answer would not change.

Cedric was no longer insistent. The room was filled with silence for a while.

On the other hand, Kirsi, who was petrified, was struggling with her own thoughts. If she remembered correctly, the reason for holding back Alastair's return and withholding him in the capital was to pressure the opposition not to mess around anymore. Though presumably, by thinking that the enemy was still attacking the Emperor even after the Grand Marshal arrived at the hunting grounds last time, it seemed that what the enemy was aiming for was not victory itself. On closer inspection, Kirsi could guess that the enemy only wanted to stir up internal relations within the palace, especially the relationship between the Emperor and the imperial guard. But that didn't even happen.

Despite having no valid proof, everyone knew that the Empress was the mastermind behind all the riots at the hunting grounds last time. In that case, didn't she understand very well that the relationship between the Emperor and the imperial guards couldn't easily be soured by such superficial efforts?

So, what is their real goal?

Was it to keep the Grand Marshal in the capital, so they could move around freely somewhere out there?

That makes sense. Nonetheless, the Grand Marshal was a huge anomaly for those with malicious intent towards the empire.

Kirsi glanced surreptitiously at Alastair who was busy scolding Cedric in a sharp voice. She deduced that whether it was Alastair or Cedric, both of them seemed to have guessed the purpose behind the enemy's last act of suicide, and they had come to the same final conclusion. Because of that, Cedric really wanted to accompany the Grand Marshal to Alba.

The problem is, does the Emperor also know about it? Or will it actually backfire if the Emperor finds out?

The thing that made Kirsi think about that was because someone as assertive and clear as Alastair would use uncertain words like "maybe" and "I guess". Obviously, isn't that weird?

Alastair might have decided to leave not because of an errand, but instead, he would try to do it no matter what. Or it could be, the Emperor also participated in this plan, but could not act in public and chose to provide support behind the scenes.

Who knows.

"I can't stay here long." as he said that, Alastair got up from his seat. Kirsi and Cedric also got up to walk him to the door. Before leaving, Alastair briefly spoke to Kirsi, "Get well soon."

Even though it sounded short and casual, Kirsi knew that Alastair was saying it sincerely. She smiled and nodded. Then said, "Thank you very much for visiting, Your Highness."

Alastair nodded. He patted Cedric on the shoulder and left.

Now only the two of them were left here.

Cedric stretched his muscles with light movements before setting up the small dining table in this spacious room. He seemed about to leave again. Before he could go anywhere, Kirsi held him back for a bit. She said unhurriedly, "Can I talk to you for a moment?"

"Hmm?"

"...May I interfere a bit?"

Cedric, who had guessed most of Kirsi's thoughts, bluntly said, "You want to come with me to Alba, right?"

Kirsi flinched a bit.

Cedric continued, this time speaking a little sharply. "After you come along, what can you do there?"

Kirsi could not instantly answer for a while. Because of that, Cedric continued his sharp sentence. "Listen, I didn't underestimate you as a woman. There are many female knights in this empire. But instead, I underestimated you as a human. Do you understand what I mean?"

Kirsi also knew she was childish. She once hated the heroin-ignorant attitude of going wherever the protagonist went, without thinking that she would be useless, and that she would only become a burden that attracted trouble from all directions. Kirsi now also feels like that stupid heroin. It is just...

"I can smell the undead," Kirsi said firmly.

Cedric chuckled, saying nothing more. But it seems he remains convinced that he will not take Kirsi no matter what. He pulled up his black coat on the sofa and put it on while walking towards the exit. Not wanting to be left in the middle of a serious conversation, Kirsi pulled the man's hand and held it as hard as she could. She said seriously, "I have a reason to go."

Since Cedric still didn't say anything, Kirsi added. "I won't meddle in your affairs. I'll mind my own business. If you're still unsure, I'll explain everything to you."

"Kirsi… I haven't even gotten permission from the Grand Marshal yet. What do you expect from me?"

Kirsi shook her head and said firmly, "No, you will definitely get the permission, I know that."

Cedric looked at her quietly. He then raised his eyebrows and asked, "What are you looking for exactly?"

"My past. "

... This is a golden opportunity for her to explore the past of the villainess.
