-Prologue-
It's May 4th, 2043 now. Been almost 20 years since the world ended and our lives changed forever. We never wanted it to happen. In fact, we did all we knew and could to fight it. But the demons got too strong and took over, only for a short period of time though, thanks to me and my friends. Yeah, we're demon killers. Damn good ones too, in fact we were born for it. Anyways, I decided to write this book as a guide for those who may experience similar situations. This book is also for historical significance as we've become the most popular people of our time. But I must warn any future readers, ghosts and the paranormal exist, the Astral Realm is real and serves as our main defense against such things, and this world is so much bigger yet so much smaller than you could possibly imagine. Read with care.
-Chapter one-
(May 28th, 2023, 03:21)
"Hey guys, it's snowing!" My friend Tris said, waking us up. Our main friend group was in Florida for vacation, also celebrating the graduation of Tris and Kate.
"Sis, you're joking," her brother, Nick, said, waking up their other sibling, Alex."
I looked outside myself, realizing she wasn't. (Oh yeah, my name's Andrew Carter.) "Guys, something doesn't feel right." At this point I could quite literally feel the darkness surrounding us. I'd always been in tune with the spiritual side, and everything I knew was telling me a fight is coming. It'd been a few months since the legendary battle we had when I killed two skinwalkers, they were something serious that I handled on my own almost with no problem. But this felt much worse. I looked at Tris, and she went from excited and confused to serious in a few seconds.
"Hey guys, let's get moving. Pack everything and we go," she demanded. Everyone listened. They of course saw me as the leader, but she was the second in command. It was her job to step up when I need to catch my breath.
I'd only brought what I needed: my dual swords(which are in the car), my katana, my survival bag with a few hatchets, an extra few knives and anything I need for survival in there, and of course my clothes bag. But as I was grabbing what I'd need, Tris grabbed my hand.
"Hey, what's up?" I tried to hide my fear as best I could.
"You're shaking, I don't like that. What do you feel?"
I hadn't even noticed I was shaking. I was more focused on thinking about them being safe, but I closed my eyes and let go of my physical senses, the best way to open yourself to the paranormal, and focused. Her hand on mine calmed the stress and million thoughts flying through my mind just enough. I could feel something big. Not necessarily one or two things. More like multiple small entities, each a little stronger than a well trained soldier. We could take a few but they have numbers that we don't.
In a rushed whisper, "we don't stand a chance. They're weak demons, but it's a lot of them. They may even have training of their own. We need to leave now."
She looked at me, and I saw the overwhelming fear in her eyes as they went from green to a cold blue (her eyes change color, she's weird like that). But I looked deeper and saw hints of green reappear. "We can make it," she said with a sniffle. She grabbed my hand and helped me up to give me a hug. I obviously hugged right back, feeling a tear down my face. We'd fought demons and monsters together before, but this is different. I had no idea what we were up against. It was as if they had themselves clouded intentionally so I can't get many details. Who knows what else they're able to combat.
"It's gonna be ok Andrew," she whispered. "One foot after the other, ok?"
I smiled a little. Only a few people could calm me down. Tris better than anyone. "Ok. Let's start moving."
I was the first outside, the leader and protector of the group. Blade drawn and held high, I looked around. Nothing yet.
"Come on guys, we only have so much time!" I told them. The longer I stood outside waiting, I could feel the cold growing. Not just the physical cold, but the negativity. Hate surrounded us, we had to escape.
We got into the car, and everything went fine. I started it, made sure everyone was buckled up and we were gone. The snow, however, was thick and somehow there was almost black ice on the road. Thankfully I was driving my Jeep Wrangler, which is pretty much ready for this.
We drove for almost an hour. We tried calling anyone we could. Nothing. The radio didn't work. I tried shuffling any playlist of mine, but my phone went crazy and burnt out. Same for theirs. All we knew was that we had each other and the snowy Florida road ahead of us.
