Chapter 113 - Those who are alive always show up

At noon Milles woke up tossing in bed. He lazily got out of bed and went to the bathroom to brush his teeth.

But it was only when he heard strange noises coming from downstairs that he really woke up from his daze.

With the toothbrush still in his mouth and his hair dishevelled, the alpha had left the bathroom on the lookout for any sound. It couldn't be Gabriel and Theodore, since he'd heard the moment they'd left much earlier. Not to mention Gabriel still had the nerve to wake him up to let him know they were leaving.

There was no one but him there...

Would he be a thief?

Had he learned that his family would be travelling, thinking that the house was empty?

Immediately Milles had returned to the bathroom spitting out his toothpaste, hurrying to grab a pair of trousers to put on when the sounds seemed to approach his room.

Should he surprise the thief? If he went out to confront him it would be dangerous, he might be armed. And besides...

Milles turned to his bed, where beneath that knot of covers there would be an omega sleeping soundly.

He couldn't do anything reckless, since he had someone to protect.

Looking around the room, Milles had searched for something he could use as a weapon. Unfortunately the only thing he could have there was his guitar, but he couldn't even use it as a weapon. The money he had spent to buy it was from the time he had worked over the summer since he was grounded and had no allowance.

It would have to be freehand anyway.

The sound of footsteps had become louder. He could also hear the doors of the other rooms on the second floor being opened. Was the thief still checking for people?

Again the alpha had looked at the bed, making sure that the omega was completely hidden in his slouch and covers. And then foot before foot Milles had gone to the door extending his hand on the knob.

As long as he could keep the intruder out of his room, it would already be a plus.

He had counted down when the silence signalled it.

And then, he had opened the door in a burst leaping backwards imitating whatever pose he believed to be martial arts. His leap had startled the tall platinum haired boy, who let out a scream bringing his hand to his chest.

― AAAAAH! Milles, what a hell of a scare.

With his eyes wide open, Milles stared at that familiar face without believing he had found it at the door of his room. The smell that greeted him only proved that this person was really there.

― Jake?

He had changed in that one year. He was taller, with a stronger body and green eyes that were still charming. But the way he dressed was detached and now he had piercings. How long had it been since he saw your cousin?

― What's up, bro! ― Jake hugged Miles, who had returned the same squeeze with a weak smile. ― Man, look how much you've grown, you're stronger.

― I'll say, I almost didn't recognize you. Wait... How did you get in?

Jake grinned mischievously as he pulled the spare key from his dark jeans pocket.

― You guys still keep it under the vase.

― Damn, I thought you climbed the wall.

― Puff, I can't climb the wall of your house. It's too smooth. Aren't you cold? Looks like I woke you up.

Looking at his own body, Miles realized he was only wearing trousers. Back in his room the alpha went to the wardrobe to get a shirt, only then remembering that there was someone hiding in his room.

Out of the corner of his eye he checked to see if his cousin had come out to wait in the living room, but Jake had already entered his room and was looking around curiously. Milles had quickly put on the first shirt he saw and walked over to the bed to sit on the mattress, grinning widely.

― What are you doing here? I didn't know you were in town.

― Sadie called me, so I thought I'd drop by as I was visiting the city to take care of some business... What's that smell?

― Smell? What smell?

― Hm... Sweet... I don't know.

― Ah, yesterday I had a barbecue here at home and called the guys from the team to celebrate our victory. We made it out of the playoffs.

― Really? Wow, congratulations, bro! I knew you guys would make it.

― Yeah, thanks. You wanna get something to eat? We can go downstairs...

Miles' voice was slowly dying as something in the covers stirred. Jake had noticed and tilted his head looking at it oddly, before he cracked a smile and stretched out his index finger waving it in the air.

― I got it, you're in company. Sorry, I can go out and...

― Ah what the hell kind of fucking racket is this! Go talk in the fifth of hell. I want to fucking sleep!

The dark haired guy came out of his hole, looking at the two alphas who were talking in the room. Milles hadn't even bothered to turn back, his eyes unmoved by the surprise stamped on Jake.

Wordlessly, the visiting alpha had pointed from Nicholas to Miles in disbelief. The blond just cracked a thin smile compressing his lips, drumming his fingers on his knees trying to find some way out.

But the shit had already been thrown into the fan.

― That... Is that Nicolas?

The omega had sat behind Milles leaning lazily on his shoulder, peering his feline eyes over the platinum taking a moment to recognise him. The alpha's right shoulder had tingled, and he could feel the somewhat angry energy being emanated from Nicolas.

His head had throbbed by his shoulder as Nicolas' slender fingers sank into his flesh at the same moment the omega growled at Jake. Did their bond need to be this perfect? He could feel all the anger Nicolas was feeling?

― Oh... Look who decided to show up.

― Good to see you too, Nicolas.
