Chapter 64 - Apology

On Tuesday Milles was eager to go to school. He didn't usually feel that way, but there were two things he needed to find out.

First of all, your friend. If Sadie had been annoyed by the damn story being published in the Orkut community, who will say what the other students would think of Gabriel. Whispers, unfounded rumours, jokes that Milles had already made with Theodore could be made with the new student. Gabriel probably wouldn't be prepared to deal with such attention.

Then he wanted to see Nicolas. The captain had passed out the day before who knows why. He was feverish and looked tired. Despite all the frailty the little man had still made a point of kissing him like that in the ward. Just to show the alpha that omega wouldn't be tamed so easily. Still, Milles was worried.

Descending from the skateboard as soon as he arrived at the school gates to pass the inspectors, Milles looked around for a known figure. He even climbed the skateboard again to slide through the school yard in search of the subject who was able to mediate the two people. He had made several rounds around the courtyard, greeted some acquaintances without paying much attention to them, and nothing to find the said whose.

Passing by a window, he could see the blonde hair following the corridor. Immediately Milles jumped from the skateboard and ran into the school building, reaching Theodore until holding him by the shoulder.

― Milles? ― Theodore widened his eyes before the breathy alpha.

Holding the omega's wrist, he pulled it out where they could have privacy to talk. Surely if someone saw him talking to the boy, they would probably think he was bluffing as usual. His goal was to have a clear and private conversation.

Theodore did not hit the alpha, quietly following him behind the school. After verifying that no one else was around, Milles had once again stared at the blonde omega by noticing his slightly shrunken shoulders. He always bent over when he was alone with Milles, as if trying to protect himself. But this time the alpha had no intention of doing any evil.

Perhaps it was his apparent nervousness that made Theodore subtly relax his shoulders.

― What do you want with me?

― A frank conversation. Let's settle here and now.

Theodore leaned against the wall looking relieved. Milles continued standing in front of him, mindful of the omega trying to run away from him. He had tried to organize his thoughts, he needed to be clear with Theodore.

― I'm not good at fighting...

― Relax. I want to apologize.

The clear eyes of the omega widened in surprise. The alpha stood before him with his head down without showing all his charismatic aura that was routine. Somewhat unprecedented that vision.

Milles had been clear with his sister the night before about supporting his friend. Gabriel liked Theodore, so the least he could do was raise a white flag. However, just stopping fire would not be enough for Milles.

― You... apologizing to me?

— I know I was a big son of a bitch recently. ― The nervousness now grew in Milles' chest. He was not able to face Theodore in the eyes, and seeking a refuge his fingers curled in his own hair tightening the threads. ― I blamed you for ruining Jake's life, for driving away a guy I fucking love. Probably I was just using you to spit this... Thing... I don't know how I can call this feeling. If it would be a feeling. It's so...

— Frustrating. ― Theodore's whisper sounded like a gentle, warm spring breeze. Milles raised his eyes to face him surprised, finding a gentle smile on that omega. ― It is frustrating when we want to help someone who is important to us, but we are faced with impotence itself.

What was that feeling?

So warm and welcoming.

Ah... Milles was able to understand why Gabriel had grown fond of Theodore.

― It's... it sucks to feel this way. I wish I'd done more for Jake.

— I can't imagine how Jake must have handled his family after that day. But it was pretty clear that you and your sister didn't like him moving to the capital.

― We were forbidden to talk to him. So...

— I get it. Even though it wasn't my intention to hurt the Mckenzie family, my actions still had consequences. In that case, I must also apologize to you, Milles.

Theodore lowered his head slightly forward, taking his right hand to his chest. Milles had realized the honesty in his gesture, coming to feel slightly moved. In the end, that omega was quite different than he had imagined.

That omega was completely different than he thought it was. It seemed so obvious why his friend fell for Theodore. There was an aura in him that gleamed like a morning sun, simple and weak but warm. Like the kind warmth.

— I consider Gabriel my best friend, and to see that he really likes you, I'm willing to take my mistakes. Because I know we're gonna have that connection now because of him.

When Theodore raised his head again, Milles was more comfortable talking to him. He even smiled, even if he had a slight blush on his cheeks.

— Something tells me it's not just for Gabriel. ― Theodore's gentle smile had caught Milles off guard. The alpha had tried to look away, but the omega laughed low knowing very well the reason for his shame.

― What are you doing there?

The figure of the dark-haired alpha appearing on that far side of the school frightened the two blondes. They were so immersed in their own conversation that they would hardly have noticed the presence of Gabriel. Suspicious, the alpha approached the two.

― Good morning Gabriel.

― Good morning Theo! ― Smile the alpha, stroking the hair of the blonde omega. ― Am I disturbing?

― We're putting the drops on the "is".

Gabriel arched his eyebrow looking from the corner to the omega, who had agreed with his head. Milles even rolled his eyes before such mistrust of his best friend. Though he did not blame him.

― Does that mean you're okay now?

Milles and Theodore looked at each other and smiled agreeing. Gabriel seemed happy about it, tapping his best friend's shoulder. Well, it would be the first time Milles went over his pride to take on his mistakes. Especially for a friend.

― I'm happy for you. My friend and my guy getting along.

Gabriel had held Theodore's hand making him ashamed. Milles had noticed the blush on the omega's face, and how much Gabriel seemed to enjoy leaving him like that. Sighing, the alpha crossed his arms.

― I'm not here to sail for you.

― If the captain were here, you wouldn't be sailing.

For the first time Milles had felt like squeezing Gabriel's neck just to make him shut up. Theodore had blinked a few times looking from the corner at the alpha, and Milles did not have the courage to face him. He had no idea how far back the story went.

Would Nicolas have commented anything?

He was very doubtful.

Your captain was proud as hell. He wouldn't tell Theodore he was surprised by Milles in the locker room on Sunday. Or that they would have kissed in the infirmary on Monday.

Milles had left his hand on Gabriel's shoulder, opening a grin as he growled between his teeth.

― Biel, shut up, hm?

— Nico will not come for a few days. ― Theodore answered looking at the hand of Gabriel that was still on his. Passing the tip of the indicator over the athlete's skin, omega seemed to occasionally speak precious information. ― He's got a fever from the patches.

― I thought the serum he took yesterday was enough.

— It's never enough. ― Theodore sighed staring at the two alpha boys. ― In matches he usually uses a lot of stickers at the same time, and this kind of leaves him in this state afterwards. Nico should sleep for a long time while he has a fever.

― It's dangerous to use that much. But he must be taken care of, right?

― Nico should actually be alone right now. He only lives with his mother, and she works all day. So he kind of learned to turn around.

In the head of Milles could only imagine his captain with his eyes closed lying down and a thief entering the house. If he had a fever, he probably wouldn't be able to fight to defend himself. In fact, your guard would be completely down.

It was the opportune moment to attack.

A sly smile appeared on his face as more and more ridiculously childish ideas snaked through his thoughts.

― We can go visit the captain after school, then.

Theodore had looked from the corner at the athlete who was silent. Strange the smile on his face, but the fingers of the alpha were tight in fist. Compressing his lips trying to find a way out, the boy rolled his eyes pretending occasional.

— Ah, it would be nice if someone trustworthy stayed with him until we get there. Being alone can be very dangerous, and Nico would have no strength to turn around...

Milles was unable to opine anything in that conversation, his mind was too busy working too hard to torture him. What if someone from the team decided to visit him and realized the charm that was that omega? What if they smelled him, that must have been strong from the fever, and tried something with the captain?

There's no way that should happen. Absolutely no one could participate in that delicious and exciting battle that he and the captain fought in secret. Only he could take advantage of Nicolas Howard.

If someone else tried... well, Milles would know how to hide a body if he had to.

― I'm killing practice today, cover me!

Fixing the backpack on his back when climbing the skateboard, Milles already left behind the couple to escape from school. Yet he was able to hear Theodore's scream further back.

― Gabriel will send the address by message!
