Chapter 20 - Chapter Twenty: The Fall Of The Svernatine Clan

Without more time wasted for this valuable opportunity we all are ready to break into work. Asphodel and Garth are both going to have to help on their own ways. We walk from the ally knowing our window of opportunity for Seraph to be knocked out is very limited and we need to make her invisible. I look to them both.

"I will take care of the candles and the gems." I say.

"I am on the flowers and gold." Garth chimes in.

"I will get the blood then. I also will get the cinnamon and other herbs and spices." Asphodel says.

We have our plan and it is time to follow through on it. I think Asphodel may be wrong about the laws of magic. I am after all, a wyvern allied witch. Which, if I gathered my mind enough on the topic, I should be able to do some abnormal stuff. Is it possible Asphodel and Garth have less magic than I do?

Asphodel waves a hand over my eyes. Suddenly I can see these trails that look like they are of gem dust. What did she just do?

"You'll always know where you want to go with this enchantment of the eyes. I'll teach you it after we deal with our.." Asphodel pauses as someone walks by. "Our friend."

"Right." I say.

I turn around to see if Garth is anywhere to be seen. To my surprise, he is already gone. I assume he knows the same trick as Asphodel. Now, I wonder how these augmentation spells work. It seems some magic has more rules than I would have ever known. That and it likely has a lot less limitations to what magic can do than my sister even understands.

I walk following the purple trail before my eyes now. I figure this is going to lead me to the amethyst. I think I am much more keen on the inner works of the way magic works than they are. Either that or my talents are just letting me override their limitations. I can't bother trying to figure this out. Within a few minutes I see the path has actually led me away from town to a weird cavern. I sigh.

I can't imagine what may be waiting for me. Then it hits me, I may be able to get into contact with Sven from here. Maybe we are far enough away, which means I may have a better pickup spot for our prisoner.

'Sven, can you hear me?' I call in my mind.

There is no reply. I feel my heart sink. What if something bad happened to him? I try not to think too much on that idea, heading into the cave and raising my wand, focusing only on the idea of light being made. Surely, I didn't need a spell. The tip of my wand lights a bright white light that makes every hanging rock seen. The cavern ignites with a purple glow. I can't help but be in utter awe of the sight.

I take a look around and start picking up the amethyst pieces that are already loose. Sure as heck, I find bits of quartz with it. Perfect. Most people wouldn't think that they could find the two crystals in the same area, but according to my science class, Amethyst grows from the quartz, if I remember right. Either way it was a success, now I can't wait to get out of this creepy cavern. I begin to briskly make my way out of the cavern.

That takes care of that. Now I need to follow the other trails and meet with the others. I only hope that things are going just as smoothly. I am working on my way back, following a bright yellow trail, which seems almost pink, as there is a purple mist that hazes it, almost as if two items are found together. I can't help but smile about it.

I let the trail in my vision show me the way. It's almost like the trail spell is some sot of psychic ability spell. I need to learn this one from Asphodel.

Sure enough, I come to a field of flowers, though its a small one. I grab a couple of the dandelions that grow there, even being sure to take the roots with the plant. I do the same with a bit of lavender as I am here already. I know now, I have to return. The trails vanish and become replaced with a green trail. I still am in awe of just how impressively useful this spell is.

It feels right to simply follow the trail. I never think much of it, but there is a bunch of strange noises that seem to follow me on my way back. A sudden blast of heat rushes against my neck and I jolt around.

'You called for me?' Sven says to me.

"Oh are you ever a sight for sore eyes." I say.

'What is wrong?' He asks.

"Fly high, follow me and land in the park. We have a person we want you to take to my mother." I reply.

I nod, he takes off and that is all there is to it. I return to following the trail. I cant wait to let Asphodel know what we are doing in this aspect. At least Sven is caught up to an extent. We can cover more when time isnt so valueable. We want to ensure we are faster than the effects of the magic we used.

It doesn't feel like I have been gone for too long. I enter the ally where we hid our special guest and wait quietly for Garth and Asphodel to arrive. I know they will be here anytime. They've had to do this before I am sure.

I go and search this woman from the Svernatine clan. I check their wallet which is a small mauve folded leather accessory. I check out what she has stored inside. It comes to no surprise to me that she, like me, can carry more than meets the eyes. Our unexpected encounter was an alchemist. It seems they are one of the people making the drugs for the area. I think this just may become the fall of the Svernatine clan.

Soon enough I hear foot steps come my way. I out of reflex lay a hand up and my wand up with the other hand. Immediately a white sphere surrounds me and Seraph. I am staring in a bit of shock as the person comes around the corner and doesn't see me. They come close to the dumpster. I know this face. I drop the spell from hiding us.

"Hey Garth." I say.

"Hey, since when can you cast without a incantation?" He asks immediately in shock.

"I guess thats why I have a wyvern?" I reply.

"No, you're more than just someone who got lucky. There is more to this than I would know, at least I believe." Garth replies quickly.

I hear something ruffle and I reply with the same motion as earlier, out of instinct. We all are veiled by the white sphere. However, this time I am more eager to drop it. The sight of Asphodel brings me such comfort. I know she is the one I can count on with our lifestyle and abilities. It's really no wonder magic is kept so secret from the public. The Holy Magicians are also slowed down for recruiting for the witch hunts they inspire because of that, so I guess that works out too.

"Hey guys, ready?" Asphodel asks as she sees me.

"Yeah." I reply.

"Me too. Also, she can now apparently cast without incantations." Garth says.

"Really?" She says back in a moment of surprise. "We may be able to restore our family easier then." She adds.

"Oh, by the way, Sven is on alert for my signal." I say as I pass her the things I gathered for her.

"Right and thanks." She smiles softly. "You're becoming quite the young witch." She adds with a moment of pride filling her voice.

I never would have expected her to actually sound so genuine with a statement like this. I am smiling ear to ear as my eyes burn from how hard the smile is bursting from my face. I see Garth nodding. I wave my wand over Seraph and make them be covered in my white veil. Garth picks up Seraph, as he vanishes from sight with Seraph the moment they make contact.

"Lead the way to the park." Garth says.

"Right. We also, will be sure to give Seraph some of the potion for Sven." Asphodel explains.

"This way we have them both invisible without needing a spell." I smile as I feel like I am really getting to understand how so much of this part of the world works.

I feel so much more confident than I used to. Now I can defend myself. Now I can make something of life. Now I must hide in fear. Once we extract Seraph, we should head back home as well, I figure. We may not have to leave our home land to lift this curse, after all. I feel so good about this being possible.

What could possibly go wrong?
