Originally, Caroline had some confidence in the Shwell family, but Jeffrey's little experiment had shattered her past impression.

Perhaps Jeffrey's actions couldn't represent the entire Shwell family, but because of this incident, she had to first find out if the Shwell family's bottom line and conscience were still the same.
