Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

Chani pressed her soft lips against mine, before pulling back and looking into my eyes. I wanted to drown in her deep brown eyes.

"Tell me how you feel, girly."

"I love you, Chani." I reached up to touch her cheek. She leaned into my hand.

"What about Alice?"

"She…isn't good for me." I looked away from her, shaking my head gently. I looked back over at her with a soft smile. "But you're perfect."

"Mali." She moaned my name, leaning in for another kiss. "I want you." She kissed me again, as her fingers fiddled with the button of my pants.

My loud alarm woke me from my dream. I sighed deeply, reaching over to turn it off. "Why can I never finish these damn dreams?"

----

Chani and I were both sat on the floor in her room. She told me today she'd do a tarot card reading for me, all I had to do was come up with a question I wanted answered.

"Hm…" I thought for a moment, before deciding on my question. "What will happen between my crush and me? Will we work out?"

Chani cracked a smile, before becoming more serious again. She sorted the cards out, having me pick a couple, before flipping them over. "Looking into what may happen for you and your…crush, we have The World and the 7 of Wands. The World is a tremendous card to see for your question. This is a card of completion, wholeness, and a sense of true enlightenment. It's as if you will step into the person you are truly meant to be, and you will reach a feeling of being truly fulfilled. The 7 of Wands is a card of resistance. You may be fighting forces bigger than you are, and you are having to really stand up for what you believe in. This can be exhausting, and it's not always clear if we will eventually make it through this.

"It's an interesting combination you have. On one hand, you have this powerful and strongly positive energy in The World, but there's a sense that that power is being challenged in the 7 of Wands. A good thing here, though, is that The World is the more powerful energy out of these two cards. I feel this is saying it's likely the two of you will eventually be together as a romantic couple, but it may take some time, and it may not be as easy as you would like it to be." She paused for a moment. "It may be you date someone else before you get your chance to be together, and you need to be resilient through that. But The World is telling you that, eventually, things will work out for the two of you. It's not clear in these cards when that will be, though."

I smiled. "Sounds like the cards want you-I mean, her and I to work out."

"Sounds like it." She smiled as well. "Anyways." She pulled the cards back into the deck. "Spooky season is already here. Want to go shopping with me and see what Halloween decorations we can find?"

"Sure. Sounds like fun. Depends on the day, though. Arthur invited me over to a football party this Sunday."

"Alright." Chani nodded. "I hope you have fun, but…do you even like sports?"

"No." I smiled guiltily. "I don't, but he invited me and said I would get to meet some of his friends, so I took him up on the offer."

"My dad was a huge sports fan too, mostly football, though." She smiled at the thought. "He used to dress me up for church in a Chargers jersey to make all the Bronco fans mad." She laughed quietly. "I was a total daddy's girl when I was younger, so I'd watch the games with him every Sunday, wearing my all-too-large jersey."

"Sounds like you really love your dad."

"Loved." She shook her head, looking down at her lap. "He's a piece of shit."

"I'm sorry, Chani." I placed my hand on top of hers.

She looked back up at me with a small smile. "It's alright, not your fault. I hope you have a good time with Arthur. I can drop you off if you need a ride."

"I probably will." I nodded. "So, thank you."

"Of course. Now, we should get back to our homework." She squeezed my hand before standing up.
