Chapter 5
"why isn't Brandon here?" heather looked at her phone.
"waiter! "
"yes please, how may I help you?"
"I need two glasses of martini's."
"Anything else?"
"Yeah, I also want you to get out!"
The waiter shot her a mean look as he walked out of her table. he returned about three minutes later.
"here are your Martini's ma". he said placing each on the bar counter.
Hm..she gave him a nod.
it's already been an hour since I came here. where could Brandon be? she dialed his number again.
*The number you're trying to call isn't available*
damn!! where could he be.
*ringgggggg*
she answered the call as fast as possible.
"Hello Brandon? it's been almost two hours, why aren't you here."
"uhmm....babe, this isn't Brandon.... it's Kim."
" oh! Kim, what's the happ."
"babe, drop the act! where's Brandon?" Kim asked worriedly.
"nothing..I mean, Brandon is on his way here. there's nothing to worry about dear."
"Are you sure?"
"yeah. so uhmmm....why did you call?" heather tried to change the subject.
"oh... before I forget. I wanted to let you know that your driver had returned the car home."
"what???" she suddenly asked angered.
"you really don't have to get pissed off heather. he tried Calling you about the car but, he said he got no response."
" so how'd you expect me to go back home."
"I've already booked a cab for you. your Uber driver will be arriving at 10. please don't hesitate to get in."
"you know I hate public transport, Kim!"
"it isn't a public drive heather, I personally called the manager to send one of his best drivers. I don't want anything happening to my favourite boss."
"whatever Kim..."
"so, Are you and your date going to eat out or you be heading back to your house."
"I think we're eating out. I really don't want to go home yet, especially seeing my dad."
" hmmm... No problem, I'll get that arranged. love you dear."
"you too, and she hung up."
"waiter!!! Another drink?"
"Dad... uhmmm it's about mum."
" What about your mother?"
"dad, stop acting like you don't know.!"
" I do not know!"
" Dad!"
"What? "
"So you want to tell me, you don't know mum has Cancer?"
her dad remained silent.
"say something dad!"
"what do you expect me to do heather," Mr Martin shouted as he exited the room. it's since that day she last saw her dad.
Three weeks later*
"Heather," her mum said softly.
"mum, you really don't have to stress yourself.
"Heather, you're still here. you really have to get going. you have a job now."
"Mum... nothing is more important than you. "
" ah.." Mrs Martin sighed. "so how's your dad?"
"he's fine." heather replied plainly.
" you still haven't heard from him, have you?"
"No, I have. in fact, he told me to give you this bouquet of roses. she handed them to her mother."
" oh.... your dad really did this?"
" yes."
"To be honest heather, I thought your dad has actually forgotten me. but, it seems I was wrong. "
"why do you think that mum?" heather questioned swallowing her tears.
"He really didn't take the news of the Cancer well. he seemed disturbed."
"more like selfish", heather mumbled.
"No.. I don't think so, your father is just afraid. Imagine how you'll feel if you was in his shoes. you waking up, only to find out that the woman of your dreams is going to die."
"Mum!"
"Let me say it heather, I'm not scared. And you shouldn't be, death happens.
"sigh."
"But, I only have one wish,"
"and that is? heather asked her mum."
" to see you both happy and all of us together as a family, just one time. can you do that for me?"
" yes mum, I promise."
