Chapter 9 - I might be Like Him

" Where was I . . . yes . . . he felt completely dejected when he heard that they lost yet another child due to his bad temper. The doctor also added that he out from the report that this isn't the first miscarriage, so if she has another another miscarriage again she may never bear children again. He then made a promise to change so that his family name would be continued as he was the only son "

Charlie was about to say something but she remembered the promise then kept mute.

Seeing this he told her, " Speak your mind ".

" You are still going to tell me? "

" Yes "

" I can't believe that he was only willing to change because he wanted to continue his family name "

" That the kind of motherf**keep he is . . . This time he managed to convince my mother that he was sorry and that he would change also saying that he loved her with the depth of his heart. He did change and as time went on, she finally felt that she was in a marriage with the love of her life.

A year past making it three years into their marriage. Things were going well until he lost a contract which his company needed to get their back on top. He drank so much to get rid of his pain and came back home around two in the morning, drunk to the bones. My mum was so worried that when she saw him walk into the house, she felt relieved and curious to know why he was home so late.

She got to where he was and asked him the reason for him coming home at that time. He ignored her and tried to find his way to the stairs staggering. She held his arm and immediately smelled the alcohol oozing from his mouth as he told her to leave him alone. She still kept trying to talk to him. He got angry and punched her on any part of her body he could touch as she protected herself. After punching her for sometime, he unbuckled his belt and had fun with her against her will. He finished minutes later, went to his bedroom, freshen up and drive off.

My mum, with the little strength she had, took her phone and called her best friends, Aunt Isabella and Aunt Emilia. They helped her clean her wounds and take a bath. She spent the next one week at Emilia's place and it was during this period she came to a decision with the advice and support of her best friends, who had been aware of the situation all along. She sent for her family lawyer and filled for a divorce".

" Finally! . . . sorry ", Charlie said mistakenly.

" It's ok "

" She told me that she did love him but she would not stay married to a man that might end up killing her one day, in the name of love. It was difficult divorce as he tried to paint her black to her family and refused to sign the papers. She got infuriated and filed a case of domestic violence against him.

He taught he would be able to win the case with what he had prepared with his lawyer but unfortunately my mother came to the hearing prepared also.

It turned out the house they lived in had CCTV cameras and she showed the court was he had done to her. After much disorderliness in the court by both families, the judge came to a discussion. Either he signs the divorce papers or spends 48 years with hard labour in prison for domestic violence.

Obviously, he agreed to the divorce and she hadn't laid her eyes on him since that day "

" That's it? How were you born? "

" Few months later, she found out she was pregnant together with her friends. Her mother that is my grandmother insisted that my dad be informed about it but my mum made sure that no one told him. She made it clear that she can take care of me on her own.

I was born six months later, she named me Christopher Mario Hunt and vowed to make sure I'm not like my dad "

" She did a good job making sure of that. You are a total gentleman "

" Thanks but . . . "

" But what? "

" Lowering his voice he turned to Charlie and said, " I can help but feel I might be like him "

" As long as you don't think about it and learn to control your emotions, then you will be nothing like him "

" You are right, if I think about it too much then it might come true. So I won't about it much ".

" That's better "

" Thanks "

" Am your friend, it more like a duty "

*. *. *. *.

Charlotte sat up and finally replied saying, " It seems that those two who can't seem to stop fighting will end up together, Trinity and Daniel. I told the girls earlier that their love was on the way but I kinda lied that I didn't know it was "

" Interesting. What's you thinking? ", Joseph asked seeing the look on her face.

" Huh?. . . um . . . nothing. Let's just let them find out themselves"

" What you guys whispering about? ", Chris asked as he walked over to where they were.

" Nothing that will be of interest to either of you ", Charlotte was quick to reply.

" Don't bother asking them, you know they won't tell you ", Charlie chipped in standing by the stairs.

" True ", Chris replied walking towards the stairs, " I will be up if you need me ".

" Charlie I hope you heard. He will you if you need him ", Charlotte teased with a grin.

Charlie simply ignored her and said, " I should go. I don't want to disturb you conversation you your guy "
