Chereads / Zombies Guide To The Apocalypse / Chapter 5 - You'll Be My Teammate

Chapter 5 - You'll Be My Teammate

Nothing like a good ol' walk in the outdoors to cheer up my unfeeling corpse of a body, the sun is shining and the birds are happily chirping. The zombies are doing their usual rounds of hunting and eating everything within their sight, survivors are rationing their food and stabbing one another at their lowest point. What about me? I'm just walking around the world until I met my previous race that became known as my food

[Zombie information:

Hierarchy: It seems that this flesh-eating abomination has its own rules to uphold. Survival of the fittest, unevolved, and lesser mutated zombies are afraid of those that ranked higher than their own. Their ranks can be easily noticed by their smell, a normal zombie would have a few bite marks. While giving off the stench of a corpse, as a zombie evolves their smells began to change depending on their evolution]

"That's enough for today, I can't believe this used to be my hometown," After a few miles away from his school, he notices a different view compared to his memory. A land filled with a bunch of man-eating monsters, to make things worse it became clear that the world has changed

'Landscapes turn upside down, plants and trees that overgrown and their roots covering the buildings. Apart from all of that, I can't believe that I'm lost. I'd known my neighborhood by the time I started to talk and this isn't how I remembered it. What the hell happened to the world...? For now, I need to survive, it seems that I've been found,'

He quickly jumps into the air after he heard a few footsteps becoming louder as he continued to overlook. It was a bunch of zombies, luckily for him, they weren't able to reach his destination. Having said that, he was surprised to see that he was able to jump at such a distance from the ground. Whilst his body quickly reacts to his command and grabs ahold of the branches of the tree

"Strange I've known for a fact that I was quiet all the time that I was walking, how can they hear me? Was it a coincidence? They didn't give off the scent that a mutant zombie has~ Gunfire...? Now that I've thought about it, im a little lost in my thoughts, were they after the gunfire?" Leo was wearing police armor that he acquired from the carcasses that originated from the school. Paired with his body being thoroughly cleaned, his scent couldn't be detected. That's when he heard gunfire, which answers the agitated zombies below his own

*Bang* *Bang* *Bang*

"Ggraaaaaggg!!!" The zombies quickly fled their surroundings after they heard another fire coming from a gun. This sudden occurrence led Leo to follow through with his kind and seek the origins of the gunfire. While he has a dozen mutation orbs within his jar, he couldn't shake off his curiosity. After he spent a lot of his time observing the dead and had no communication with another person

'Let's just hope that I can catch up to them, then again I need to write a few more pieces of information about the zombie horde. These zombies are the perfect test subject, I need to record their every move. This will be the first time I'll get to observe and maybe have a closer look,'

One thing that he had learned from his observations of the living dead, was that a horde was formed. The zombies that join will be slobbered by the horde leader's saliva and other kinds of bodily fluids. This makes them use their enhanced sense of smell to know which are their allies, enemies, or their prey. Even though he intends to help those survivors. He couldn't pass on the opportunity to further develop his knowledge about zombie hordes

"I wish those guys would put up a good fight," His lack of empathy made him unable to feel any kind of guilt and the need to save their lives. For him, increasing his knowledge is more important than a few lives that'll end up being a part of his community. However, he thought of sparing a few of them to be his allies in this apocalyptic world

Whilst Leo and a band of cannibalistic monsters were about to reach the endpoint. A few survivors were fighting for their lives after they broke into a car that started its alarm. Zombies from every side arrived at their destination, but the worst thing they could've done was fire a gun. Even though it was effective, the sounds had traveled across their vicinity which alerted a horde

"We're almost finished wiretapping the car, bring the supplies and equipment. We need to go before a dozen horde could arrive at the scene," A boy in his teens alerted his allies about their crisis when he was occupied to bring their supplies. Once he loaded the last two boxes of supplies they would've lasted them for about a month. He felt his leg has given up on his body, he forced his muscles to move just to place their supplies

"Help...! I can't move, my legs... My legs!!! I can't move them..." After one of his allies heard his screams, he got off their car and carried his body. Only for him to drown kn the depths of despair, after a few seconds he witnessed that his body was thrown. He landed on top of the zombies that were unable to move and his injuries only drew the attention of the rest

In the meantime, the rest of his allies had entered their vehicle, and not even one of them came to give a helping hand. That's when he realizes that he was betrayed, he could see their faces, their smiles, and joy after they betrayed him. Each of them drinks their fill inside their vehicle which was secure to the outside world

"You... You motherfuckers!!! I can't believe I trusted you~ W-what j-just h-happened?" His rage gave birth to an unknown power to appear in his most needed hour

"I... I'm a power wielder...?" Sadly even if he had the same power as the ones that he saw once the apocalypse had arrived. His body and injuries weren't in his favor, even though he knocks the zombies to reach his flesh. He can no longer make use of his power, he lies on the ground and awaited his untimely death

"I wish... I wish I could've just killed those bastards... Even if I turn, I want to kill them?" When he sees the sight of a few monsters that would've blocked his vision. Their bodies were immediately shredded by an attack that came out of nowhere

'No way... Is it a power wielder!!? That is unbelievable!!! How could it easily cut through such a thick layer of reinforced flesh!!? Am I saved, who is this person,'

When he thought it was all over, he was saved by a figure wearing police armor covering most of his body. Whilst he sees the zombies around him were brutally murdered and that his allies were at their lowest point. One of them was being held on their neck whilst they were raised in the air. And the masked survivor waved his hands at the inured teenager before his tentacles would pull him closer to his side

"W-who are you?" The teenager said whilst the tentacle-like weapon raises his foot and he was able to have a closer look at the masked survivor

"I'm just passing by, more importantly, I saw that this pest disguised as a human has betrayed you. You wouldn't mind if I kill them right...? Judging by your reactions, it seems that you want to do it yourself. Fair enough, im, not the type of person that comes to mind another person's business," Leo lowered him down to the ground after he sees such a vengeful expression to be seen in his face. Whilst he only prepared the stage when he uses his weapon as a means to bind them to a certain area

"Thank you, my name is Rick, thank you for allowing me to achieve my revenge. May I ask for your name if you don't mind the slightest bit?" Rick gave him a bow after he was given a knife and the other was his former allies binded in Leo's tentacle-like weapons

"My name is classified, but you can address me as L, im a person that's been studying the movement of zombies alike. It was such a disgusting sight and I thought that you would've passed away from being bitten or losing consciousness. So I simply made it my mission to enact your vengeance if you were unable to do so," It was a good thing that he ingested the mutation orb, if not he wouldn't be able to converse, with anyone. Even though the taste of human flesh was a luxury, he doesn't act on eating just about anyone

His sympathy for life has left his body, the only thing that remains is a hint of humanity in the form of his consciousness. Rick was conflicted with what he had done, if it were his old self, Leo would've panicked about a person's death. Now he simply sees them as nothing more than his livestock, the only human he met was left in such a horrid state. He left after his observation was over, that was what was supposed to occur

"Can I accompany you? I mean please can I join you on your journey," His hands were tarnished by taking another person's life, and yet he retains his light. He requested Leo for him to join him on his journey, even though it would've been filled with dangers. He didn't say a word and only hopped onto the vehicle and only uttered a few words

"Can you drive a car?" He said whilst Rick nodded in agreement to his questions. He doesn't know why, but he could trust this stranger to be his ally. He was neither sociable nor good at reading a person's talents or personality

But something tells him that he was about to miss out on a worthwhile journey, apart from that was his ability. For a human to possess an ability that he has only seen from a mutant zombie was oddly peculiar. No matter how much he tries to shake this curiosity, he could only be more drawn to the mystery
