If any other Magician dared suggest that the Root was not worth pursuing and that they should consider something more practical, they would have been kicked out of the Clock Tower by the noble families a long time ago. But of course, they wouldn't dare do such a thing to Medea. For one, the world of magicians has always taken pride in antiquity, and Medea's era predates all of these magical noble families combined. Moreover, her strength as a Magician from the Age of Gods, as well as the benefits she brought to the Clock Tower, made it foolish for anyone to pick a fight with her.
On the other hand, for those families who had invested too much to give up, this was also a viable strategy. If a Magician family gave up on the pursuit of the Root, wouldn't that mean one less competitor?
