Chapter 42 - Chapter 42 - Fight For Survival

—3rd Person POV—

Seizing the chance to attack Cole, Angelo and the other Angels launched themselves at him. As they drew closer to him, the world around them began to warp causing them to miss their target completely. Turning back to face him again, one of the Lesser Angels realized what was going on as they felt cuts open up all over their bodies.

"He is warping reality!", the Lesser Angel spat in anger, "You didn't mention anything about this Angelo!!"

"Wait what!?", Angelo gasped in horror, "Since when have you been able to do that?! We never gave you that power!"

"Oh, but you did…I carefully chose my powers in anticipation of our next meeting. I am done being your fucking errand boy, and I am done being taken away from my family!", Cole said lifting his right hand, "You will pay tenfold for the harm you caused the worlds I saved, the people I love, and time you stole from me! My family suffered unspeakable hardships to preserve the peace we worked so hard to achieve, none of you assholes understand what they went through!"

Realizing that they had been tricked, Angelo knew they no longer held the advantage in this fight. Combined with his overwhelming stats, Cole was basically a Demigod which was more than the five of the Angels could handle. Knowing that he had to keep Cole's attention away from what was to come, Angelo accepted that he was going to die today at Cole's hands.

"Damn it!", Angelo growled as he unleashed several powerful magical spells at Cole, "Why couldn't you just accept your job, and keep moving on when we needed you too! What is so nice about dealing with brats, and being tied down to your wives!"

Waving his hand, Cole disassembled the spells effortlessly and put pressure on the five Lesser Angels. Leaving the angels on the ground to his copies, Cole kept his guard up waiting for a sneak attack of some sort. The fact the angels didn't run when they realized he was warping reality meant they were either idiots or were stalling for time.

"I don't expect a reject like you to understand the love I have for my family. They are the only people that have kept me grounded this whole time. If it weren't for them I would have gone on a rampage a long time ago…", Cole told them with an angry glare, "Now shut up, and fight!"

While Cole had his hands full in his world, the deities in Heaven were blissfully unaware of what was happening. Having reviewed everything on the docket in short order, they had reached the end of the meeting and were giving their decision on Cole's wives. Looking at the Goddess of Love, her superior told her that they were permitted to join Cole in his world as compensation for the trouble he had endured.

"If there is a world left that is…", the Goddess of Darkness remarked staring at the God of Reincarnation, "Isn't that right?"

"Why are you saying it like that? The world he is in now isn't scheduled for erasure for another ten billion years at the minimum.", the God of Death said turning his gaze to the God in question, "Is there something else going on we need to know about?"

"Why don't you tell them so we don't have to?", the Goddess of Chaos laughed, "It's not like they won't find out when we leave the room."

Getting the sense that something wasn't right, the God of Creation demand he answer their question. Looking away from them in defiance, the three Chief Deities were done tolerating the God of Reincarnation's behavior. Asking the two Goddesses to explain what was happening, they immediately spilled the beans.

"Currently his subordinates are laying waste to the six worlds he was supposed to repair. Instead of doing as you ordered, he decided to destroy them since it was too much of a pain for him to fix.", the Goddess of Darkness told them with a smirk.

Slamming his fists onto the table, the God of Death glared at him. Only the three Chief Deities had the authority to decide on the destruction of worlds, having their authority usurped so casually caused far more trouble than the God of Reincarnation bargained for.

"How dare you make this decision on your own. We did not authorize this, order your people back at once!", the God of Death roared in anger.

"I refuse, those worlds are too difficult to repair so doing this is the only option.", the God of Reincarnation refuted, "Besides which…it's already too late to stop it now. The damage done to those worlds is unrepairable, most of the populace should be dead."

Pulling up an overview of each world, they saw that what he was saying was true. Nearly all of the populace of each world was gone, and the surviving people would be insufficient to rebuild their worlds. Seeing the destruction of six worlds that had been thriving only a short time ago…the Goddess of Life flew into a fit of rage.

"You…YOU BASTARD!", the Goddes of Life seethed as her divinity caused many of the Gods to falter, "I will see that you are held responsible for every life you have stolen from those innocent worlds today! Your position as God of Reincarnation will be removed, and you will burn in the depths of Tartaros for the rest of eternity!"

"I second the motion, you show no remorse for breaking protocol and appear to be pleased with yourself. Why should we entrust such an important job to someone like you?!", the God of Death spat, "We were fools to believe that you would change!"

"Agreed, we have tolerated your poor performance and rule-breaking for far too long. Your title is hereby removed, and you are to be cast out of Heaven!", the God of Creation shouted.

Feeling his divinity begin to leave him, the God of Reincarnation fell to the ground gasping for air. Realizing that he had only moments before he was rendered completely powerless, he glanced over to his allies.

"That is our cue to leave.", the God of Mischief said snapping his fingers.

"I will make sure the troublesome bastard is dead and buried.", the God of Destruction stated.

In an instant seven of the deities in the room vanished from Heaven. As the realization of what happened hit home, the Gods of Death and Life fell back into their seats. Blocking the seven deities from ever returning to Heaven, the God of Creation followed his comrade's example.

"Damn it all…we have these rules in place for a reason. We can't have more abominations coming out of the woodwork, our current arrangement with the ones the God of Time created is shaky at best.", he groaned, "If more start showing up, we will be in serious trouble."

Bursting into the Meeting Room, the Goddess of Love's assistant stumbled inside panting heavily. Seeing her cherished servant covered in wounds, the Goddess asked her what was wrong.

"They…they have activated the Anti-Life Machine.", she wheezed, "We…we have to stop it. Cole's world…he got most of the people to safety. They are in a pocket dimension right now, he is trying to buy the people time to get inside."

Switching their view back to Cole's current world, the deities took a closer look at what was happening. Seeing millions of portals across the world, they confirmed that what the angel was saying was true. Seeing billions of people hiding in the pocket dimension, the God's moods lightened as this wasn't a complete loss. Watching Cole fight the Lesser Angels quickly changed the mood though as they saw what he was doing.

"Good lord…another one has shown up.", the God of Creation stated as his face paled, "We have to-"

"Wait a moment please!", the Goddess of Love protested, "Cole isn't like the abominations we have dealt with before, he isn't a cold-hearted monster. He cares deeply about his family and the people of each world he has visited, he is using his powers to save them…that has to count for something."

"I agree with her, he had every right to take his family and abandon the world to its fate. Instead of doing that, he stayed behind to fight a Heavenly Host alone. We should at least give him a chance as he has done all that he can to save six different worlds.", the Goddess of Life agreed.

"I am willing to see how this plays out, he's earned a chance to show he isn't like them.", the God of Death admitted, "Anyways the bigger problem is disabling the Anti-Life machine, that has to be our top priority. If we don't stop it, all those people aren't going to have a place to live anymore."

Rising up from their seats, all the deities present headed to the now vacant God of Destruction's room to try and resolve the issue. While the deities hurriedly attempted to stop the destruction of all six worlds, Cole was having a hard time trying to take down the five Lesser Angels. If he was able to focus solely on them, he wouldn't be having any problems with them. Unfortunately, he was doing several things at once which required a substantial amount of focus to maintain.

—Cole POV—

'Only a few more minutes till the evacuations are done then I can focus more on these guys alone.', Cole thought, "Rebecca, how are the evacuations on your sides going?"

"The situation here isn't good, too many people and not enough time. Our defenses are minutes away from collapsing, I don't think we will be able to get everyone in the capitals to safety.", she said in an exhausted tone.

"All of you, don't push yourselves too hard. You need to have enough magic to evacuate through the portals with everyone else. I can't maintain the portals on your side without your assistance.", I reminded them.

"We…we know grandpa…", one of my grandsons panted, "We're doing everything we can."

Sensing that they were running on fumes now, I knew I had to push harder. Commanding my soldiers to escort people through the portals, I hoped to shave a minute or so off on my side so I could assist them more. Going in for another exchange of blows, a portal opened up between the angels and me. Watching a fist fly out of the portal, it came out faster than I could react and sent me crashing into the streets below.

Shaking off the blow, I looked up to see a rather sinister man walk out of the portal. Sensing divinity coming off of him there was no mistaking him for anything else other than a God.

"So you are the mortal I have been hearing about.", he said, "I am the God of Destruction Darpen, it's nice to meet you."

"The feeling isn't mutual…", I told him as I stood up, "I figured that bastard had help."

"Of course he did, I saw an opportunity to be free of the yoke that those three old bastards put on us and took it. I am free to do as I please now, and your worlds will be a perfect warm-up for me.", he laughed as I sensed a surge of destructive energy.

Taking his threat seriously, I told my children and grandchildren to retreat into the portal immediately. Telling me that they couldn't, they said there were still thousands of people trying to flee into the pocket dimension. Trying to explain what was happening, my attention was pulled back to the deity in front of me.

"Show me what you got mortal!", the deity cackled launching himself at me.

Knowing that the minimal reality bending I had been doing wouldn't cut it with him, I switched to a more direct approach. As the last person on earth was evacuated, I shut all the portals I had on this world and put everything I had into fighting him. Slamming a right hook into his jaw, his facial expression changed as he slid backward from me. Spitting a tooth out, he looked at me with excitement.

"Finally, a real fight!", he roared letting loose a chain of blows on me.

Meeting him head-on, our fists started colliding as the surrounding area began to get blown away. Leveling the city in moments, withdrew my copies and soldiers to further bolster my strength. Locked in a stalemate with him, my children and grandchildren told me that something was happening in their worlds.
