Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 - Reckoning

—3rd Person POV—

Telling the former Assistant Commander to shut up, Overhaul reminded him that Eri was the only way the Yakuza was going to regain their former glory. Shaking his head, the man told Overhaul there was no glory to be had on the back of an innocent child. He and the other loyal followers of their former leader had only followed Overhaul this far because he was raised by their leader. They had always been against using Eri but had done as Overhaul said because it was too late to stop him.

"This is punishment for our dishonorable methods.", he said looking at Kessler through the monitor, "Those are the eyes of a man with no hesitation, he intends to see us massacred before the night begins."

"I need you to be ready to kill this bastard! If I knew he'd come to us, I would have attacked the school sooner. Once he is gone, we can take Eri by force and achieve our dream.", Overhaul stated with a broken smile.

Even though it was through a monitor, the old man knew Overhaul was underestimating Kessler. He wasn't sure how it was possible, but Kessler exuded the presence of a warrior that had seen many battles. Fighting him head-on was a fool's errand, even his brothers-in-arms looked convinced they were going to die today.

'Today is a good day to die in battle, it's the only wish I have left…to die with my sword in hand like my father before me.', he thought leaving the room to prepare.

Watching his adoptive father's men leave the room, Overhaul called them cowards under his breath. Ordering his loyal men to prepare for combat, he wanted all of their weapons loaded up and ready for use. The cops and other Heroes were bound to show up as well so they had to be ready to engage them too.

'If only we had a bit more-', Overhaul thought before a voice appeared in his mind.

"If you won't come out, I will drag you out of your hole.", Kessler growled in a cold tone.

Feeling the ground start shaking violently beneath his feet, Overhaul watched the ceiling start getting closer. Realizing what was happening, Overhaul quickly used his Quirk to remove the roof of their base before they were all crushed against it. Coming above ground into a monsoon, Overhaul looked over at Kessler who stared at him without blinking. A shiver ran down his spine as it felt like Kessler was peering into his very soul.

While both of them stared at one another, news helicopters arrived on the scene. Filming the extensive amount of armaments the Yakuza had, the reporters began telling the world about the Anti-Quirk weapons the Yakuza were manufacturing along with the experimental drugs they were distributing across the country. Dodging rockets that were being launched at them, the pilots backed off to avoid being hit.

As they circled the area, Overhaul broke the silence between Kessler and himself. Furious that he had been forced into the open so easily, he began venting his frustration on Kessler.

"You bastard!!", Overhaul howled in anger, "Do you realize what you have done!? Eri was crucial to my operation yet you stole her from me!"

"Does it look like I give a damn?", Kessler replied immediately with an uncaring tone, "You had to use a sweet girl like her to further your own goals because you are too weak to change your situation with your own two hands. I bet your adoptive father would be ashamed of the man you have become if you didn't put him into a coma."

"Fuck you! Who the hell told you that lie!?", Overhaul roared as he grabbed several of his men, "I will show you just how strong I am!"

Pulling up on the scene as Overhaul disassembled the men, Togo almost threw up as Overhaul reassembled them on his own body. Realizing that the information they had been going off of for the Yakuza was far from accurate, he grabbed his radio and called for every available officer to head to Pier 13.

'Damn it all, the Hero Association's information on these guys is completely useless. There was nothing about a powerful Quirk user like this guy in their ranks!', Togo thought as he got out of his car, "Alright, get those riot shields out and anchored!"

Before his men could start moving, the machine guns opened up on the officers and Kessler. The heroes that were showing up to provide aid dove for cover as bullets flew past them. Knowing how dangerous the bullets were, the heroes could only wait for the storm of bullets to end or for the officers to get a barrier up.

Using a mirror to peer around the corner, Mirko tried to find an opening to get close. Seeing Kessler using some sort of barrier to stop the bullets, she called him a showoff and a punk for having fun without her. She was irritated that she was going to have to sit this one out, at least until he managed to stop their gunfire.

Seeing the fight on the news, the students of Cherry Blossom Academy watched as Kessler pushed closer to the Yakuza. Fuyumi noticed that Eri was visibly upset by the scene, and sensed she blamed herself for this. Walking over and giving her a hug Fuyumi told her that it wasn't her fault in any way that this was happening.

"I know…what if he loses his Quirk because of me?", Eri sniffled before voicing her concerns, "Is he going to hate me?"

"Of course he won't, Cole cares a lot about you. If he didn't, he wouldn't be on the frontline fighting them. I am sure he went straight there after he dropped you off.", Fuyumi assured her, "Cole won't ever hate you, I promise."

Taking those words to heart, Eri watched as Kessler dropped his barrier and dive headfirst into the gunfire. Seeing his afterimages on screen, both of them gasped as they saw him effortlessly avoid each bullet.

"I will kill you bastard!", Overhauled roared as he completed his modifications.

Rushing forward, Overhaul intended to crush him in one go but several large silhouettes of Kessler appeared out of thin air all of a sudden. Before he could figure out what was going on, the silhouettes dashed forward slamming into him and the armored trucks. Exploding on impact, Overhaul's body seized up uncontrollably while the cars were sent tumbling backward.

Scrambling to get them back on their wheels, Kessler used the opportunity to start picking the grunts off quickly. Using precise shots to hit the truck's exposed underbellies, he purposefully aimed for the gas tanks. Igniting the gas inside them, the trucks exploded sending men and metal shrapnel flying in every direction. Those closest to the explosions were either killed or severely injured from the blasts while those further away were knocked to the ground. Stumbling back to their feet, several more silhouettes came charging at them.

"Stop messing around!", Overhaul spat in anger, "Why don't you fight-"

Appearing in front of his face, Kessler let loose a powerful kick that shattered Overhaul's jaw and sent him flying backward into his men. Screaming in pain as he held his face, the older Yakuza members got between Kessler and Overhaul. Stopping his advance, Kessler stared at them as he examined them closely.

"Your swords are weeping…", Kessler stated as he cracked his knuckles "Those swords were once wielded by men with honor and dignity, now they are in the hands of scum like you."

Clenching their teeth, the men remained silent as they looked at him.

"Being a villain doesn't make you dishonorable, we all forge our path based on our morals and beliefs. I have met plenty of honorable bandits who became bandits to feed their families. Those men fought for their family's lives, you fight for the glory that has long since faded.", Kessler told them with a disgusted look, "If the men who forged those blades knew what you'd use them for…they would have killed themselves before forging them."

Going to draw their blades, Kessler vanished from sight.

"You came looking for an honorable death, I will give you no such pleasure.", Kessler remarked from behind them, "Only honorable men get that mercy."

Swelling up all of a sudden, the men violently exploded into a red mist that was swiftly carried away by the wind leaving only their blades behind. Picking them up while the Yakuza were scrambling to regroup, Kessler put them to the side for later. Getting back up, having rebuilt his jaw, Overhaul watched the men that raised him die without any resistance.

"Heroes don't kill!!", he spat with venomous anger, "Just who the hell do you think you are?!"

"Scum like you don't get to tell me when I can and can't kill. None of you have any remorse for the lives you ended. Just how many times did you hurt that poor girl just to achieve your goal!", Kessler stated as his electricity started dancing along his arms, "I am done playing games with you boy."

Lifting his arms slowly, all the metal objects on the remains of the pier started lifting off the ground. Letting go of their equipment before they were carried into the sky, Kessler compressed all of them into spheres with a small movement of his hands. With another wave of his hands, they were tossed into the ocean leaving the Yakuza completely exposed.

"All of you scumbags are equally responsible for the torture and suffering of countless souls, including a defenseless little girl that came to me for help.", Kessler growled as the air started to become statically charged, "None of you understand what it's like to feel fear, to feel like you have no control over your continued life…today I will show you what fear is."

Sensing that something dangerous was about to happen, Overhaul looked for a way to escape. Unfortunately, the sea was far too choppy to swim in which left one option, the pathway that Kessler was standing in front of. Charging at him, as his survival instinct kicked into overdrive, Overhaul desperately wanted to survive and fight another day.

"Go to Hell.", Kessler said snapping his fingers.

Feeling the hair on the back of her neck stand up, Mirko shouted for everyone to take cover. Doing as she suggested, the officers and heroes hunkered down just milliseconds before dozens of lightning bolts dropped down from the sky. Striking Overhaul and dozens of his men head-on, they screamed as the lightning continued striking them repeatedly. Releasing the men from their suffering, Kessler grabbed Overhaul by the face.

"Let's see how you like being tortured!", Kessler spat as he stole Overhaul's Quirk and then hit him with one billion volts of electricity straight to the face.

"AHHH!!!!", Overhaul screamed as the world around him went white.

Enveloping the area in an electrical storm, the unfortunate Yakuza members that were close to them were instantly vaporized. Those that were fortunate enough to not get caught in the blast were left spasming on the ground as the voltage in the air caused them to lose control of their bodies. When the dust settled Kessler was standing in the middle of the crater with only Overhaul's mask in his hand. Tossing it to the feet of the surviving members, Kessler teleported out of the crater and glared at them.

"Anyone else want to fuck around and find out?", Kessler questioned as several bolts of lightning struck close by them.

Cowering on the ground, the surviving members immediately surrendered. Getting on their knees, they placed their hands behind their hands and did their best not to move. Satisfied they were no longer a threat, Kessler turned to the circling helicopters. Creating another silhouette of himself, Kessler spoke to them directly.

"All For One and the Meta Liberation Army, you are next.", Kessler said pointing at the camera, "If you want to survive, I suggest you turn yourself in before I put you in a casket. All of you have hundreds of bodies on your shoulders, don't think for a moment I won't kill you as I did Overhaul. Unlike most Heroes, I am not afraid of serving time if it means I take all of you down permanently."

Dissipating his silhouette, Kessler grabbed the swords and headed toward Togo as the police and other Heroes collected the remaining Yakuza.
