*Morpheus pov*
Time passed since the practical class I had with my students. Since that day I could almost feel the drive to learn from their souls.
It seems like experiencing, truly living, and seeing the future with one's own eyes brings forth a feeling of accomplishment like no other. The students seem to be waiting almost praying for another practical class.
I even had to go to the nurse because apparently some of my students tried the spell on their own and got massive headaches.
Foolish children.
Currently, I am sitting in my classroom watching the sun set over the clouds. The bright rays seemed to bring a peaceful ambiance to the castle.
In a short half hour, the dueling tryouts will begin meaning, I get to see many duels between future soldiers.
I must admit, I'm excited to see some of the students go up there and show their progress.
Albus discussed with the staff on what we should do as a large number of the eligible student body applied.
It seems we decided today will be the start of the tryouts and they will continue on into the weekend as no classes usually take place during those times. This also gives professors the chance to come by and watch without worrying about the work that needs to be done.
Standing from my seated position I stretched my back before walking over to the dueling area. Passing through the halls I could feel the electric passion of dueling in the air. The students seemed to vibrate with enthusiasm and dedication as they made their way to the area.
Finding a position near the back I saw Albus transfigured a viewing box for the professors, chuckling I walked over and took a seat, "Good thinking with this," I said gesturing around myself
Albus laughed, "They say it's not good for someone my age to be standing so much," I heard Madam Pomfrey snort in agreement off to the side
Laughing I pulled out a wine glass from my pouch and then said in the air, "Can you bring me something off the good section," I said with a smile
Soon a bottle was popped into my hand, "Thanks," I said to the air once more
"The good section?" Filius asked to my right
"Ah, I might have sorted the wine to my standards earlier in the year," I admitted with a shrug
The professors laughed while shaking their heads, "I would have never thought you were a wine snob," Slughorn said
Looking over at the man I barely spoke to I laughed, "The more you know," I wonder why he is here the man barely shows up for anything
Scanning the room once more I noticed figures that would soon join Tom standing in good vantage points. It seems not only are Albus and I looking for potential recruits Tom is also taking the chance to find suitable students.
Abara and Yowie walked onto the dueling platform both were wearing dueling attire most likely to fit in with the atmosphere, "Today, the first-ever dueling tryouts will commence, my fellow professors and I are excited to see how well you perform. As many students applied, in fact much more than we thought would the process will be dragged out for today and the weekend depending on how fast everything proceeds," Yowie said with a large smile
Abara nodded next to him, "Remember, we are not accepting students based on win results but, performance. Show us all you can do that's all that matters," clapping his hands Abara continued, "Starting today off we will begin with the third-year applicants, first up Stiles Marr against Evan Rosier"
Stiles Marr walked forward from the crowd, and seeing his look of confidence brought my interest in this duel to a higher level. His opponent a third-year Slytherin who by the looks of it is confident in dueling and a strong competitor.
They stood on the platform facing each other, I could see the competitiveness forming between the two.
Yowie and Abara stepped off the platform, "You may begin," Yowie said as his foot landed on the ground
The two instantly began.
*Narrator pov*
Stiles cast "Glacius Luminos," sending a brilliant stream of icy light toward Evan. Quick on his feet, Evan countered with a fire-breathing spell, melting the ice and sending scorching flames towards Stiles.
Stiles swiftly countered the fire with "Repello," summoning a barrier that repelled the flame
Evan laughed as the flame went askew, "You haven't mastered the spell yet?" his haughty tone annoyed Stiles to no end
Evan unleashed "Fulmen Flammeum," a dazzling burst of flame that sped toward Stiles, the fire seemed to bend the air as the flame inched closer the the seemingly caught off guard Gryffindor
Stiles grit his teeth closing his eyes, "Frigidus Protego," he yelled summoning a shield of frost
Evans's flame clashed with Stiles' frosty defense. The dueling platform crackled with the clash of elements.
"I might not have mastered the repelling charm but, who said I haven't learned others," Stiles said proudly wiping his sweaty brow
Evan, his breath visible in the frosty air retaliated with, "Incendio!" a large jet of flames spewed from his wand assaulting the frost shield
Stiles was blinded and couldn't see Evan mumble softly casting the serpent-summoning charm, three serpents started to sliver on the ground toward Stiles.
Evan then quickly circled his wand chanting, "Caligo," the condensate from the fire and ice meeting drew together to create a thin layer of fog
"stalactitus!" Stiles yelled and icicles formed in front of him, swiping the icicles charged forward at Evan
Evan dodged the fastest one and then used, "Stupefy!" to intercept the other seeing three more coming Evan yelled, "Repello!" perfectly timed the icicles bounced back and headed toward Stiles
Stiles brought his wand up to defend but his leg jolted, "What the-" he yelled as one of the snakes bit him while the other two restricted his movements
"Whats wrong," Stiles murmured stumbling on the ground
"The duels over!" Abara yelled flicking his wand causing the snakes to vanish, "Madam Pomfrey we need your assistance!" he shouted while helping Stiles stay steady
It seems one of the snakes had a powerful venom that was now trying to end Stiles. Evan who summoned the serpents stood proudly on the other end of the dueling platform, a wide smirk plastered on his face.
The Gryffindor students were outraged calling for a banishment while the Slytherins were countering saying it was a basic spell.
While Stiles was being helped off the stage by Abara and Madam Pomfrey, Professor Yowie took the stage, "Mr. Rosier you can rejoin your friends, as we said before we do not care about a winner or loser good job to the both of you," he was professional and fair
"The children can't see it now as they are blinded by hate and greed but, Evan was the clear winner of that duel. Stiles is strong but, I think he needs some guidance while Evan is clearly able to think ahead and adjust accordingly as we never saw him use that many fire spells before," Filius said to the professors
"Oh yes, they both are very interesting I agree," Morpheus said with a wide smile

if you don't know who Evan Rosier was a follower of Voldemort during First War, a very strong duelist able to go up against Moody and said to be an important follower of voldy.
Moody btw is a pain to pinpoint age, he is older than James so he is a seventh year.
