*Narrator pov*
James Potter and Lily Evans faced each other, wands at the ready. The air crackled with anticipation as their fellow students gathered to witness the duel between two formidable young wizards in their third year.
Lily who was gifted in charms versus James who was gifted in transfiguration. A prankster vs a diligent student many waited to see the outcome of this duel.
James, with his characteristic confidence, smirked at Lily. "Ready for this, Evans?"
Lily, determined and focused, nodded. "Bring it on, Potter."
As the first spell was cast, James flicked his wand, conjuring a swirling mass of mist clearly he had been training with his dad over the summer. Lily countered with a swift charm, creating a shimmering barrier that repelled the mist. The crowd murmured in approval at the display of magical prowess.
Undeterred, James changed tactics. With a wave of his wand, he transfigured the platform beneath Lily's feet into a cuff locking her in place. Lily, quick on her toes, chanted, "Diffendo!" The cuff was severed and Lily immediately jumped away dodging a disarming charm in the process
Lily back on her feet retaliated with a dazzling array of charms, in succession she yelled, "Stupefy, Expelliarmus, Petrificus Totalus!" The spells arced through the air lighting the room with a dazzling display of colors
James, momentarily enchanted, shook off the effects and countered with a transfiguration spell forming a wall from the platform.
Being momentarily out of sight from Lily let James reposition he ran to the right ready to counterattack.
The duel continued with a captivating back-and-forth. Lily's charms added vibrant colors to the platform, while James's transfigurations altered the very landscape they dueled upon. The crowd watched in awe as the two wizards displayed their unique magical strengths.
In a final, dramatic exchange, Lily dug deep channeling all of the magic she could muster Lily unleashed a powerful array of charms, "STUPEFY EXPELLIARMUS ARRESTO MOMENTUM , CARPE RETRACTUM, STUPEFY" her wand moved rapidly in many different shapes the spells seemed to chain them together leaving James no room to dodge
James running out of juice gritted his teeth using some rubble from earlier he intercepted the first stunning spell throwing his body to the left he dodged the disarming charm but that left him open for the slowing charm that was in his path.
The spell hit him in the chest causing his body to fall slowly, the other spells were casted in the other possible dodging direction meaning he had a small window to retaliate.
His body moved as if it was engulfed in a thick sludge, James saw Lily panting trying to use one more spell.
It was as if the whole room was hit by the slowing charm everyone anticipated what would happen next waiting for one of the student to pull off one more spell.
Either student just needed to cast one more and the match would be over.
Lily raised her shaky arm trying to move it in the shape of the stunning spell while James just landed on the ground and began to slowly move his arm from his fallen position.
James seeing he couldn't get his charm out as fast as Lily knew he was going to lose so he did something outside of the box.
Right as Lily softly muttered, "stupefy," a piece of the platform under her right foot raised causing her body to tilt and the spell to miss
The area was silent was silent as Lily fell to her knees out of breath and magic she was beyond haggard.
James now free from the slowing spell lay on the ground panting, his whole body drenched in sweat as he closed his eyes.
The students watching let out an audible gasp and then started clapping and cheering.
Professor Yowie stood on the platform while Abara and Madam Pomfrey who were also watching collected the two duelests.
"What an exciting match, it will be considered a tie I for one look forward to seeing a rematch! Please make sure to sign up for tryouts if you are interested,"

"Impressive," I said as the students were carried away
Albus nodded, "Impressive indeed, it looks like Britain will have two fine wizards soon," his eyes seemed to sparkle in delight
Minerva frowned, "James needs to learn more Transfiguration spells his talent is blossoming before our eyes yet he is having to use variations of weaker spells," she seemed to be thinking about giving James some helpful lessons
I laughed, "I don't think any spell is weak it's just how you use it and James Potter seems to have a robust imagination paired with his flexible casting he can be a real threat in the future,"
Minerva frowned, "Threat?" she asked pointedly
I chuckled, "Did I say it like that? I meant a threat to dark wizards particularly this new upstart group that's been appearing more and more," I smoothly explained
Albus laughed, "I agree, he is a rare talent and I'm starting to see we have many talents this year. Lily Evans seems to be talented in charms,"
I nodded, "Her chaining of spells is impressive I wonder if it was self-taught or if someone helped her?"
Albus smiled, "I know Filius has been keeping an eye on her but I don't think he gave her any lessons in the style of dueling," he said while watching the excited students file out
"Really? She must be a great talent then. I'm excited to see how talented the other two of James's group are," I referred to the two marauders who haven't gone up yet Sirius and Remus
"If they are as skilled as James and Lily you might have a strong group of students on your hands, Minerva," Albus chuckled
Minerva cracked the faintest of smiles, "They better be talented with all of the trouble they give me,"
Thinking for a moment I asked, "Albus what school are we competing with first?" he never mentioned it before
Albus frowned, "Durmstrang,"
"Interesting, it seems we have our work cut out for us," I laughed while I began to make my way out of the room
Durmstrang huh? If I remember correctly that school is practically made for students who appreciate the darker arts. If the students are half as strong as the one who founded the school Hogwarts has their work cut out for them.
Walking back into my room I began to prepare a small divination, grinding some Boswellia into a greenish paste I took off my upper robe letting it hang from my waist.
Gently I marked my body with the paste and sat in crisscross in a meditative position.
Closing my eyes I began to slowly breathe in and out in a specific pattern.
As I continued my repetitions my mind wandered, I saw a vision of the dueling club students going against the Durmstrang students. The Durmstrang students used heavy brutal attacks in a quick fashion leaving the Hogwarts students with no room to properly retaliate.
Opening my eyes I knew what the students were now lacking, a proper spell to defend against spell.
The protego spell is a classic for most wizards which leaves the common wizard without variation. Also, it's not taught until the sixth year.
I need to fix that.
