Chapter 49 - Professor Morpheus duels

*Morpheus pov*

Today was another day of dueling club, the meeting after Kingsley and Stiles dueled I didn't attend but Albus did. He said he was still looking for students who could dominate in a duel against Lucius.

It was humourous in a sense that we were striking at Tom by trying to knock a student's social standing down. How wondrous the world of strategy and warfare is.

This meeting I was attending for a very special reason, Filius wanted to stretch his limbs a bit and decided to end the meeting with a duel against a professor.

Since Filius is widely known as a master duelist I think this would be a good opportunity to go up and duel. This was my performance will strike the hearts of my potential soldiers and enemies even more deeply.

Walking into the dueling area I saw two students already facing off, spells were being dodged and countered with the proper methods and footwork. It was a stark contrast to the duels in the beginning.

Truthfully I didn't plan on bringing up a dueling club at all, but once I saw the opportunity I suggested it. This was one of those moments when seizing the opportunity yields better results than expected.

As the duel concluded and the Hufflepuff won, Abara and Yowie went over to present the areas both could improve on.

These two professors were practically the perfect fit for this club, they approached the meetings with such enthusiasm and dedication that it fueled the students with a desire to practice and strive to be better.

To be what the professors see in them.

I couldn't have done it better myself, and I really mean that. I'm well aware of the aura I exude, the students would be more frightened of me than encouraged.

As the class was winding down Albus and I locked eyes from across the room, we saw potential in one student.

But for now, I must duel.

I felt excited, for the first time in a while I would be dueling someone who knew how to properly fight.

The only sad part was most of my spells were meant to kill, and I couldn't use any ritual patterns.

"For the end of this meeting, we have a surprise in store for all of you, Professor Flitwick a dueling champion has expressed his desire to give a demonstration of his prowess, joining him is Professor Morpheus," Yowie said with a large smile

The students instantly perked up with excitement, more excited to see Filius duel than me of course.

I smiled and walked onto the platform, Filius stood in front of me while the two club leaders stepped off the platform.

Albus raised a translucent barrier around the platform, "Filius, I'm excited to learn from you," I said humbly

"Morpheus, I'm excited to see what you can do, hopefully you don't disappoint," Filius replied with a chuckle

I believe this is what they call pre-duel banter.

Some of the students laughed while I stayed quiet.

We both bowed and began to walk away from each other.

*Narrator pov*

The duel began with a flick of Morpheus's wand, causing the stone beneath Flitwick's feet to sprout into a tangle of thorny vines. Flitwick responded with a series of intricate Shield Charms to protect himself, then cast a Lumos spell, creating a sphere of bright light to blind Morpheus temporarily.

Morpheus laughed as he conjured a swarm of glowing fireflies, their erratic flight making them difficult to track. Filius smiled broadly as he flicked his wand causing chunks of stone to fly at Morpheus, mixed in with the stones were several disarming charms.

With a wave of his hand, Morpheus transformed the fireflies into a shimmering fog, obscuring Flitwick's vision.

Morpheus danced in the fog seemingly knowing where the stones and spells were. He was untouched.

Flitwick, realizing he was in a tricky situation, decided to summon the elements. He waves his wand causing a burst of wind to start and swirl, the fog was pulled in, and a giant tornado of fog seemed to appear.

Flitwick then jabbed with his wand causing a small flame to shoot into the tornado, *SWISH!* the tornado turned into a fiery mass of destruction, and with a pushing motion the tornado started to head for Morpheus.

Morpheus, his resolve unwavering, cast a Mirror Charm to reflect Flitwick's own attacks against him. Filius's own spells boomeranged back, forcing him to dodge and defend.

Both Professors had wide smiles adorning their faces.

Filius using his small nimble body as an advantage ran toward the tornado, with a flick of his wand he applied the flame freeze charm and then dispersed the tornado causing a torrent of high winds and fire to fling around the platform, the barrier shook in impact.

Filius appeared mere inches from Morpheus his small body hidden amongst the flames, Filius began to bombard the divination professor with stunners and disarming spells.

As the spells collided with Morpheus, everyone thought the duel was over.

*CRASH!* the professor Everyone was waiting to be disarmed shattered into countless pieces of glass

The shards of glass flew rapidly through the air heading straight for Filius; the charms professor could also feel spells approaching from behind.

Using a quick shield spell to block most of the glass Filius dashed to the right and spun around simultaneously dodging the silent stunners he then waved his wand in intricate patterns and a bolt of lightning shot from its tip, crackling toward Morpheus who at some point got behind Filius.

The lightning crackled through the air, Morpheus raised his wand, and the shadows around him began to move.

A mass of darkness rose from the ground blocking the lightning spell, then with a twist of his wand, the darkness turned into beasts charging at Filius.

Filius laughed while rushing toward the board of shadow beasts, his wands seemed to dance in his nimble fingers, and with each almost artistic stroke of his wand, a shadow beast was vanquished.

Filius destroyed one beast spinning around to destroy another with a flick of his wand when a vine from the beginning of the duel seemed to come back to life and grab his ankle.

Filius destroyed the beast before him but knew he couldn't defend against the one behind him.

He tried to quickly destroy the vine holding him in place but by the time the vine was destroyed the beast was already upon him, Filius jumped backward, his eyes widening in terror as a silent disarming charm met his jump at the perfect moment.

*Bam!* the spell hit Filius causing his wand to fly through the sky

The last shadow beast dissolved into smoke.

The hall was silent as Morpheus stood there with a small smile plastered on his face.

Morpheus had won.

Filius stood from his downed postiontion and began to clap, that action was copied by the students.

"Marvelous! Morpheus I didn't know you were well-versed in the arts of dueling," Filius said with a wide smile not minding he lost

Morpheus laughed, "Dont flatter me Filius, I knew the type of spells you favored but you didn't know mine,"

"Ah that might be true but I don't think those were your only tricks, that mirror spell caught me off guard," Filius laughed in good nature

Both professors just laughed happy they had the opportunity to duel.

I would say after this a lot more action follows especially when summer break starts.
