Chapter 148 - Mysteries

*Morpheus pov*

Feeling the angel's life force being snuffed out I canceled the spell allowing myself to breathe deeply. Using the rock formation and carvings I significantly lowered the toll it would usually take to cast while at the same time increasing the power of the spell. Usually, the spell aptly named Blood Tide would be used with water but if I walked into the water to perform it I would have been seen much earlier.

Negary was off to the side happily flapping his wings, "Go wash the blood off your beak and claws," I said with a small laugh

He gets so excited at the chance to battle. Negary huffed before strutting over to the water cleaning his feathers and beak. I walked over and knelt down inspecting the small wounds on his body, "do you want me to heal you up? I do know how much you like your scars," I smirked gently washing his right-wing

"Caw! Caw caw!"

"I see, well I will heal you up just to the point of scars then," I laughed at the prideful look in his eyes

Instead of using a spell, I took some paste from my pouch and gently rubbed it over the wounds, "Don't move too much I know it burns but bear with it,"

Once I finished covering the wounds Negary decided to shrink back to his comfortable form landing on my shoulder, "You might want to stay up here I'm going to go see what they were making," I said standing from my crouched position

Negary huffed flying from my shoulder and finding a nice rock to perch on. I waved my hand casting the same spell I used when I met with the merpeople.

Checking the surroundings once more I confirmed nothing was amiss before descending into the depths of the ocean. I moved slowly downward following the intense pulse of magic emanating from the depths. My head swiveled carefully looking for any traps laid about.

I saw a fish gently swimming toward me causing my eyes to narrow, I smirked flicking my wrist and sending a small push of magic toward it. As the fish and magic collided a small vortex was formed before the fish rapidly descended at untold speeds.

A clever trap a skilled wizard would have fallen for it. Colliding with the fish would have caused you to be pulled deeply into the ocean at a rapid speed.

Shrugging softly I continued my descent avoiding more and more traps, each one inconspicuous and just as insidious. Finally, I saw the outline of what they were creating.

A large stone column was erected lines flowed around all sides crossing and creating intricate marks. The top of the column was flat and covered in runes and symbols etched into the very stone, at the center was a hole where the anchor would most likely go.

Floating down a little more to get a better look at the carvings I frowned at the design, a transporter. If they managed to crack the veil just a little bit more then this would be a method to cross over to earth. It would be tasking and draining but it would work, turning the beach into a key entry point. This far down they could set up an underwater stronghold leading to the surface.

"Hm," I examined the carvings intently this one hasn't been completed obviously but this gives me a rare opportunity to see how far they have come with understanding how to bypass the veil

As I studied their work I noticed several symbols meant for stabilization seeing this a grin began to form on my face. I can use this, yes this is helpful.

I began to go symbol by symbol making sure I didn't leave anything out, my mind automatically logging the information keeping the image crystal clear.

After countless hours of studying, I swished my hand and watched as the column was destroyed by countless miniature explosions.

After reaching the surface Negary rested on my shoulder once more and I began to clear the area of any semblance of my magical signature just in case something came looking for them.

The column wasn't finished thus I couldn't do what I was planning after seeing the column but, the angel said there were several other places just like this one. One of many he said.

Good.

I will find them of course and turn their own creations against them.

"It's time to go back to England," I told my feathered companion

*Narrator pov*

As Morpheus plotted a new way to disrupt the plans of his enemies in Romania his scheme to take down the vampires was progressing at a steady pace.

The vampire who snuck out to have a midnight snack was in distress he was hungry so so HUNGRY. It didn't matter how many humans he drank from draining them completely he still felt that haunting hunger and unquenchable thirst.

It just so happens that he was put on guard duty patrolling the forest that surrounded the castle looking for any unwanted guests. He and his companion Lilian sped through the forest yet she was noticeably faster than him.

"What's wrong Gerard?" she asked in concern, "You're usually faster than me,"

Gerard struggled to find a proper answer, "I don't know," he admitted, "I've been feeling off recently,"

A saucy look appeared in her eyes, "Oh yeah? I bet can make you feel better," she teased invading his personal space

"Oh really?" he said with a wide smirk

Amidst their passion, Lillian sunk her fangs into his neck prompting Gerard to do the same. As soon as her blood touched his lips he felt as if all of his neurons were firing at once.

It was like the first time he ever fed consumed by the feeling he continued at a faster pace.

"You're draining me," she said weakly but it was as if Gerard couldn't hear him

"I said you're draining me!" she shouted pushing him off

"What?!" he shouted in fury before realizing what happened, "what's wrong?" he asked softly walking closer to her trying to bring back the mood

"Leave me alone if you can't control yourself," she snarled speeding away

Gerard's face morphed in rage and then quickly into confusion, "What's happening to me," he muttered

The thirst and hunger were now back even stronger than before he realized he only found relief when he was drinking her blood.

Groaning he sped off trying to find Lilian but he was too slow she was already back inside the castle.

Not realizing the effects of drinking Gerard's blood will bring.
