This chapter introduces some information about the main character and his life before this story began. It can be skipped but doing so may leave the reader confused about some decisions made by the main character.

John lived in a suburban area but was close enough to stores and other people to be able to walk instead of needing to drive. His regular job was working as a cashier at the gas station just across the street from his home. He likes to read fantasy novels and play video games in his free time, though recently he has started to run out of novels that peak his interest.

When he leaves to go to work he can walk there, he also can walk to the grocery store if he wanted to. Basically any thing he needed for daily life was within a 5 to 10 minute walk of his home. This made things convenient but also made it so he didn't really get out and travel around much. He was mostly a loner, and enjoyed that life style for the last few years, however recently he has started to become less happy with living such a life and wanted to start to adventure out and meet new people.

He had been married to his high school crush for a short time before they divorced 6 years ago, which is when he decided to enjoy the life of someone who was basically a shut-in. He had abandoned many of his childhood dreams just to ensure he could make a living for them at the time of their marriage, but was left without a reason and had not see her since. Shortly after she left him she started to make harassing phone calls to his work and false claims to the police of abuse from him. After the police investigated they determined that the claims were false but not before it caused irreversible damage to his reputation at his current job since his boss and coworkers were getting called for interviews by the police as well.

This caused him to lose the job that had supported him during his marriage resulting in him not working for 4 years following that as he was unable to find another job in the field in which he had gained experience. This is why he later went to become a cashier, he was unable to continue to live off his savings as they were dwindling quickly with the rise of prices.

Once he managed to get the job as a cashier things started to turn around for him. He was able to make enough money to cover his costs but wasn't able to really save any money. He had decided to pick up reading online novels in his free time which allowed him to find some happiness again, but this only lasted for a few years before he started to lose those the happiness he found in books and once again started to feel depressed about life.. Recently however he had started to feel like going out of the house and meeting people again and traveling the world to see new places that he hadn't before and this brings us to where the story began..
