Chapter 86: The Night's Lineage inheritance test!
"l agree to your terms," the Elder monk said.
The crowd gasped.
They knew that once that agreement was struck the monks would never go back on their word, and to worsen things the elder monk had decided on everyone's behalf, so even if they were not interested in the bet, as far as they were there when the bet was made, they would have to bow and apologize in case Lancelot Jr wins the bet.
The crowd was unsure how to feel, on one hand, they did not believe that Lancelot Jr was a descendant of James Night, on another hand, they find his confidence rather strange, even to the point of life and death.
The perplexity made everyone jittery and unbalanced.
The bonfire ended and everyone moved to the venue of the test.
As they walked further, they got to an illusory veil, the veil made everywhere in front of it appear as if there were thick trees and lots of grasses ahead, but once you pass through, you would see a magnificent set up of fine buildings, sky scrappers of uncommon design, floating objects of various sizes and shoes that seemed priceless, high temples, floating bridges, and the likes.
This was the training ground for monks, in fact, only senior monks like Monk Lui were allowed to train here, junior monks were to train outside.
Due to the peculiar situation of the night, the veil was opened for everyone to enter. A golden hob was released by an elder monk, it floated into the air and produced a bright light similar to the rising sun. Everywhere was as clear as daylight. It totally suppressed the night's darkness.
If one were to spend more time under it one would think it was really daylight.
Lancelot Jr was beckoned to come forward by senior monk Lui. Nobody was on Lancelot Jr's side at the moment so everyone avoided him apart from his friends.
"Will you be okay?" Alisha held on to his hands as he wanted to walk towards monk Lui, "don't worry, I'll be fine" he caressed her cheek and walked towards Monk Lui.
'This door is where your test starts, there are three color squares on this door; green, red, and yellow. If the green square lights up by the time you are coming out, it would mean you are recognized by the examiner and have passed, if the red square lights up, that means you have failed, however, if the yellow square lights up, it means you've died during the test, so good luck , you may enter"
Lancelot Jr smiled and opened the door to enter without even greeting the rest. As he entered, he saw a man with a pompadour hairstyle.
He wore a glittering jacket and trousers that seemed to glitter, the shoes were no exception, he rested on a cubicle and bent his neck as if dozing off.
Lancelot Jr looked at the dozing man and wanted to ignore him, but before he could step further, the man had appeared in front of him.
'If you're another imposter, get out or you will die like the rest," the man said as he pointed to the floor close by, were so many skeletons lay, some were sitting some were lying, one thing that was eye-catching was their face, it was in a state of deep fear.
Lancelot Jr shuddered, "l think these guys died a long time ago" he spoke to the spirit speaker, you have nothing to fear, you're not a charlatan, you're indeed of the purest bloodline of the Night's Lineage" the spirit speaker replied.
Lancelot Jr was still staring at the pompadour hair-styled man in front of him. "How do I start the test? And by the way, who are you? I don't recognize your face from any history book"
The man smiled, he completely ignored his questions and spoke "so you intend to take the test, okay!! But just know that your death is on you" he then turned and pointed to a tall machine" it had a round yellow control button placed on a small extending button space, there was a glass casing with five levels ingrained on it, level 1,2,3,4,5.
"Place your hand on that button, if you have the bloodline of my master you would be moved to the second test but if not you would be as one of these skeletons"
The pompadour man had used that line so many times, and every single time his victims would end up in the skeleton state.
He never believed that Lancelot Jr had this unique bloodline or any chance of surviving, he was already prepared to see another man turn into a skeleton.
The man was just a consciousness, after all, created by James Night, to handle all the tests and left behind to guard the place, especially the inheritance that supposedly was meant for the descendants of James Night.
Lancelot Jr went straight to the machine and placed his hands on the button.
A green liquid appeared and was dwindling on the same line.
This was the same way it had done for the others before the liquid absorbed their life essence and turned their bodies into skeletons.
The pompadour hair-styled man was about to turn, thinking that Lancelot Jr's fate was sealed but suddenly he noticed that the liquid started to rise, for the first time in so many years it rose . The man was shocked, the rising will signify the proof of a true descendant of James Night.
The extent to which it rose will then signify how pure the bloodline was.
There were five ranging lines on the surface of the machine, line 1 signified extremely mixed bloodline, while line 5 signified the purest of bloodlines.
The liquid rose to line 1, then to line 2, the pompadour hair-styled man had adjusted his position, his mouth was agape at this point.
The liquid rose to line 3, it was still moving, the man was certain that the machine wasn't broken, so what does this mean? The liquid rose to line 4, now it's getting weird' the man thought, then the line rose to 5 and covered it completely before stopping.
"Purest Bloodline, A direct Descendant of
James Night"
He gulped, looking at Lancelot Jr with a newfound admiration, reverence, and respect.
