Chapter 12 - Training the body and mind 2

Memphis was now seven years. It had been two years after his Awakening ceremony and since then he had improved by leaps and bounds. Unlike other nobles who were wasting their time on social parties and splurging family wealth, Memphis was always indoors training and cultivating. Had it not been for his mother sometimes making him visit Ralph and go around the capital, he wouldn't have stepped foot out of the house. Due to this, all the maids, servants and guards respected Memphis because he wasn't a wastrel or snobbish young master.

Memphis had kept up his strict training regimen and his body had developed very well. His body was now very strong and to his surprise he noticed that the stronger his body got, the more he was able to use magic freely without any hitch. His muscles had developed and his stomach had smoothed out, showing signs of hard abs. Memphis had long decided to incorporate some boxing and martial arts into his regimen too. Thus he had stopped attacking the training dummies with only magic.

"Hyaa!" Memphis shouted, delivering a fast kick to the head of the training dummy. He gave the dummy series of punches and kicks with a final 360 spin kick which knocked it away. Memphis was thinking of even using his punches and kicks to channel spells. It was doable but took a lot of hardwork and training to perfect. Memphis knew that with time he would be able to fire spells from all parts of his body and not only his hands.

Memphis had never cared much for martial arts back on earth because he didn't find it necessary at the time but due to his joining of the gang, he had learnt a couple of moves. Of course, the gang's teaching on fighting was only limited to street fights and not proper martial arts but Memphis didn't care. As long as he was training his fists and legs, his punches and hits would be more organized and stronger.

When Memphis started training his fists, on the first day, his fists were bloodied and bruised. This was because he continually punched a training dummy without any protection for his fists and no magic. The training dummies seemed weak because when his spells hit them they were left in sorry states but through this, he found out that the wood used to construct them was as hard as concrete back on earth. Now he was able to hit and punch them with little bruises.

Memphis took a stance again and unleashed a flurry of boxing punches and kicks into the air. Jumping high, he spun around in the air using his momentum and started unleashing kicks. He landed with a roll and started to do front flips. Five flips forward, five backflips before he started doing cartwheels.

Due to his training of his body, he was now flexible and able to backflip with ease. He made it a point to do cartwheels and splits to keep his body flexible and in shape. Weights weren't in this world so he had to make do with lifting rocks and pieces of wood.

He decided to take a rest before going at it again. If he had a sparring partner he would be able to train harder even more than he was doing. Now Memphis was thinking about also learning how to use a weapon, maybe a sword. He had resolved to ask his father to get him a teacher or even teach him in that aspect when he was at least able to improve on his boxing and martial arts training.

After another 30 minutes, Memphis stopped and walked out of the training area and headed to the family's cultivation room to meditate and train his mind. It was not always that Mages used cultivation crystals but rather they also built buildings inlaid with such crystals to serve as a cultivation room. The Lerain family cultivation room had five floors; The top floor had the highest concentration of magic energy and the last floor had the lowest concentration. The Lerains had three different cultivating rooms. One for the family members and two for the workers, guards and trainees.

Memphis entered the cultivation room's last floor and took a lotus position. The energy concentration here was just right for him and it was helping him to advance steadily. Very quickly he entered his inner space with ease and started to cultivate his mental energy. Cultivating in his mind space was fast and easier, helping him to train his mind effectively. Now the space had expanded and the river signifying his mana had increased. He also noticed that the balls signifying his elements were slowly moving apart into four different directions. When he asked his father about this, he told him that it was a normal phenomenon for mages with more than one element. The elements would each move on to different parts of his mind space to form their own domains to expand. When he managed to break through into the Intermediate level, they would finally move apart to form their separate spaces in his mind. His father was shocked at the rate at which he was able to get closer to the threshold of being an Advanced mage and increased his allowance of energy crystals. Months passed by and slowly Memphis turned eight.
