After winter vacations, in mid-February, My school reopened and I was in 10th grade. The whole year went by thinking about scoring well because our school has this criterion if you score well in 10th grade then only you can be admitted to the science and commerce stream(10+1 and 10+2) in the same school. We had no subject related to arts in school. Also, I had no plan to change schools just because I didn't score well. My whole year went hustling to score well and yeah finally I passed the criteria.
It all went well passing 10th grade, now again winter breaks but there was one confusion in my mind, What stream I should choose Science or Commerce? Let me tell you how Science Vs Commerce worked in my school.
You score above 80 ---------->Science---->1) Medical 2) Non-Medical]
Below 80 ----------------------->Commerce -->No division
I like Economics, History, Maths, and Biology. It's a weird combination according to Indian education as we have to choose a particular stream either Med or Non-Med or Commerce.
I had a confusion choosing the stream. Also, Indian families had one opinion if you choose science you are either engineer or a doctor. Also, you would find your relatives more interested in what you choose rather than your own family. I made up my mind I want to go by any of their thinking I will just choose what I feel is right for me.
So I reached school on the day of admission and I was given an admission form. I filled in all the necessary details quickly and then I saw the options STREAM, MED, NON-MED, and COMMERCE. I stopped there and I started figuring out what to choose, thinking about what if this then what?
Admin looked at me and said,
"What happened? Fill it fast, We have other students also waiting for their turn."
I just nodded my head gesturing "OK"
So I used the smartest trick to choose a stream out of the three.
"Eeny, meeny, miny, moe
Catch a tiger by the toe
If he hollers let him go!
Eeny, meeny, miny, moe"
"Moe" came on the Medical option and I marked it, and submitted it to the admin. When I came out of the admin office I could see my parent's eyes asking me, "Doctor or Engineer?". Before they could question me,
"Medical," I said to them.
Some of my friends moved to other schools and they had different reasons, some didn't get their choice of a stream they wanted in my school. Some took dummy admissions along with coaching as they wanted to prepare for future entrance exams.
This was the time when I saw the division based on the subject you choose for further qualifications. Also changes in the mindset of students and society about you. Well, I was ready for new faces, a new session, and the tag of a science student.
