Zach's POV.
I was waiting for Eve to leave her office building. I headed over as soon as I left my meeting with Mike. I knew that I had been distant while working on the case and that she had been feeling upset about it.
So, like a good husband I wanted to make it up to her.
After our phone call had ended, I expected to be waiting outside for around a half hour. To my surprise Eve came waltzing out the lobby to her building within five minutes.
I was so happy to see her that I couldn't contain a huge smile from forming on my face. It seemed that she was happy to see me as well because when she locked eyes with me and saw my smile. She also broke out into a huge grin.
"Hello beautiful." I said as she leaped into my arms wrapping me in a tight bear hug.
"Aww that's sweet. What do you have planned." Eve asked questioningly.
I gave her a snarky smiled and whispered what I had planned into her ear, so no one else could hear.
"What no way! Really, hurry let's go!" Eve said full of joy, jumping up and down.
I opened the car door for Eve, then got in on the driver's side. I assumed Cain would just follow us in her car, an a few minutes later I was correct when I saw her car come up behind us in my rear-view mirror.
"Looks like Cain finally made it." I said to Eve who turned around to spot her car following behind us.
"Wow that was fast. Now hurry I can't wait to get there."
I didn't say anything I only smiled and obliged my wife's demands and drove the car faster than the speed limit. Though I was still driving safely.
I took the car through downtown and out towards the tourist photography areas. Up the winding path of the mountain and pulled into the parking lot for a beautiful scenic park that overlooked the city below.
It was one of my favorite views from when I used to live here, and I never took Eve here. So, I wanted to do something very meaningful and nice for her.
Which is why I brought her here.
Try as she might, even though she was all excited about coming up here with me. The hard work of her day and the past few days must have caught up with her since she was soundly snoozing away in the passenger seat.
I gently woke her up making sure not to scare her.
"Hey, love we are here."
"Mhm did I fall asleep. I am so sorry." She said rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.
"You did fall asleep but that's ok. You seemed tired and I didn't want to bug you. You looked so cute when you were asleep." I said getting out of the car.
I walked around to the passenger's side and opened the door for her.
"Welcome my dear to my favorite spot in the city." I said as I motioned out towards the park being dimly lit by the stars and a few recessed lights in the ground.
"Wow it's so beautiful." She said stepping away from me and looking all around at the park.
Getting a good eyeful.
The flickering of the stars echoed in the distance and the glow of the moon radiated off her body, casting her in an eerie light that made me feel that one mistake and she could slip away.
For good.
No matter what I would make sure that she would never get hurt and that from this moment on her family would love and accept her.
Like they already should have.
