Chapter 10 - Advocates

Justin sat on their bed, the door locked behind him immediately he walked in. He was devastated, he always allowed his emotions get the better of him and he had never liked it. Because he was emotionally unstable, he might have just caused a rift in his relationship with his sister. He had been acting odd since his uncle's attack and had been growing distant from her, keeping secrets and being paranoid about everything.

He needed to stop questioning everything that happens around him. They were poor and for all he knew, his parents might have decided to join the Advocates because they were promised wealth but another piece wasn't making much sense, why would the Satan's Guild go after two second class citizens that had no connection or even a clue about their secret society at all. It troubled him that he didn't have that answer and that opened doors to the possibility of them being attacked again. If he wanted information then he had to ask the two people he knew so far that have a direct link to these societies and it was the police man and his schizophrenic brother Charles.

Ashley stayed with the two brothers, the three of Them constantly chatting and making fun of each other. She had really come to like their company. They were cheerful and caring compared to what she heard about cultists.

Justin came down the stares slowly, watching as his sister had accepted their fate and moved on while he kept bothering himself with mysteries he could have solved by just asking simple questions to the people that might have answers to his question. Instead, he had chosen not to trust anybody and now he had also discovered almost the same thing as he had been told.

The three of them paused their conversation and stared at the motionless Justin.

Ashley walked up to her brother, understanding fully that he was sorry for overreacting and all. She threw her hands around him and embraced him before whispering into his ears.

"It's okay"

Justin returned the embrace after hearing her words promising in his heart to never neglect her again.

A knock on the door broke apart the nice family reunion and dragged Wilson off his seat to the door.

Harry walked in, a grade two Advocate and Charles's best friend. He was well above some of the grade Advocates but his abilities made him incapable of lasting more than ten minutes in a fight.

Terrain Change was his gift. Being able to summon a whole new terrain over a stretch of hundred metres. This ability came with a great cost that meant him almost risking his life everytime he fought.

He was almost impossible to beat since he could just summon a volcano right underneath his adversary ending the fight in an instant.

He paused after taking a step in and sighting the new faces present in the house. He turned and looked at his best friend who didn't say a word not move a muscle before turning his gaze to Wilson who repeated the same thing as his brother.

Harry was always humorous, even after all he had gone through. He was baptized into the Advocate at birth, his parents were both notable members of the society and had decided to also initiate their only son. But at the age of five, Harry had murdered his parents and his two year old sister by accident almost Killing himself too.

He had unlocked his gifts for the first time and had involuntarily summoned a burning forest into his home. Incinerating his parents who laid asleep and suffocating his younger sister who died minutes after she had been rescued. He had also passed out In the flames, only surviving because the flames didn't seem to harm him. His lungs were almost damaged when he was rescued and his heartbeat was almost out. Every time he used this ability, he was liable to cardiac arrest and it made using this power a suicidal mission. His limits were ten minutes and surpassing this time limit by even a second was a death sentence.

After he had woken and learnt about his parents and his sister, he had gone into shock, almost dying from that the news he had gotten but once again, he had cheated death and survived.

After he had recovered from his coma two years later, the Advocate had taken him into their care and helped him to control his ability better to know his limits.

He had only grown better since day one making improvements everyday he stayed with them.

He had become friends with Charles after he was assigned to take care of him after one of his mental phase had began. They had both easily bonded given their nature and become inseparable.

Harry waved slowly at the two new figures who waved back in the same manner. He had come to inform them about an information that involved only Advocate members and wasn't sure if to deliver the information iñ front of strangers but Charles had cleared his doubts urging him to carry on that the two of them were already aware of the fact that they were in a secret society.

He still felt unsure of saying it in front of the siblings but had gone ahead to share the information. He trusted in his best friend.

They were supposed to gather for an update from the higher ups by midnight, but that was far from the reason he had actually visited. It was his birthday and he had expected a surprise from the two men but nothing had happened. He was actually surprised, at the fact that he still stood there and they had no clue if what today was.

He felt like summoning an entire mountain on them but the cunning Charles would see into the future and escape just in time.

"Happy birthday!" Charles exclaimed, remembering almost immediately. He covered the distance between them and hugged his friend, pecking him all over the face.

Harry pushed the man off his body and threw him an evil glare. He was definitely going to get back at him for his forgetfulness. He turned towards Wilson whom he had expected better from. But the police officer had already escaped before he could turn.

Justin and Ashley stood watching while the new visitor pounced on the psycho and threw him to the floor punching him lightly by the side.

Justin had already taken interest in this Advocate and he was willing to be baptized, even though he wasn't doing it for himself, part of him still wanted to quench his curiosity and by midnight, all his questions would be answered.
