Chapter 6 - The Masked Man II

They drove into the dark night, the only visible light that of the headlights of the vehicle. For some reason, all the streetlights had failed to function tonight and honestly, they weren't surprised. Satan's Guild was obviously behind it. It was the perfect way for them to abduct people and feed their hellish dogs without being spotted. A perfect strategy.

"Where are we going?" Justin asked just to be sure they weren't being abducted. He didn't want to be in a condition where he had just escaped from a cobra only to enter into a lion's den.

"Somewhere safer than here trust me" Wilson assured not taking his eyes off the road.

A powerful hit to the side of the car almost sent them out of the road with Wilson carefully maneuvering and managing to keep the vehicle on track. Something had hit them and it was something big, huge and had some serious raw power.

"What was that? Ashley asked jumping away from the door side which had already been knocked inwards from the hit earlier.

Wilson didn't reply, he also didn't know what had just hit them but he applied pressure to the acceleration pedal going even faster than he was expected to. But every progress he made, whatever that was behind them made double. It had reached them again and rammed the car. This time around almost flipping it sideways.

"What's going on?!" Justin screamed before the driver finally replied

"I don't know!" Wilson screamed back. They were in the same horror movie as he was and he was the only one receiving all the tension. He had some tricks up his sleeves but against their opponent, he didn't stand a chance.

He was a grade one Guild member, the masked Death, and he was called that for a reason. A grade three Advocate like himself didn't stand a chance at all against such a foe. It was rumored that his victims rarely survived when he came after them. For the Guild to send someone so powerful after these siblings, then there was definitely something that they wanted from them much more important than feeding their hellish dogs.

Another ram to the side of the vehicle finally tore away the door of the vehicle throwing tension into every one of them. Wilson applied more pressure on the acceleration pedal zooming off as fast as the vehicle could go.

Ashley peeped outside catching a glimpse sight of the creature that assaulted them. It was much different from the hellish dog that attacked them earlier. She had only caught a glimpse of its red glowing eyes but from where it stared down at them, it was definitely bigger than the last dog and one leap was enough to cover up the distance that they ever tried to create between them.

Wilson went off road just in time before another ramming and sped off into the forest. He knew he was slowing them down but he had another trick up his sleeve. His gift was illusion. Casting false images and causing hallucinations in the head of the victim and the forest provided the best cover for It. No doubt, the siblings would definitely be affected by this, he hadn't learnt how to channel this power to a specific person or direction so whenever he used it, everyone around him was affected. He didn't want to make them see things but it was for their own good. This was the only way they might survive this attack.

He took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and lighted it before inserting it into his mouth.

The two siblings stared in disbelief at the man who was meant to rescue them, he was driving and if to say that wasn't enough reason not to smoke, they were being chased by a creature that tore down trees while they had to dodge and swerve around making them slower and easier to reach.

Justin opened his mouth to speak but suddenly stopped himself. He was back home, seemingly just rising from bed. It was all a dream he thanked his gods clearly not cut out for such things to be happening in reality. Everything had felt so real that he thought it was really happening for real but the relief he felt just now was one in a lifetime.

He dressed up and raced down the stairs just to make sure he wasn't dreaming and he was assured it wasn't a dream. Ashley was downstairs as she always was, the television on but she was more interested in her phone. This was definitely real. He smiled to himself happy they weren't homeless and being chased by demons.

Ashley found herself in her classroom being laughed at while she woke. She had been sleeping during lectures and the lecturer had taken his time to draw a bunny face on her while she was busy having this lucid daydream. After the class, she had raced to her locker to make sure there wasn't any note and luckily they wasn't. She repeated the same for her backpack and finally the flowerpot when she got home. No note. She was relieved, the dream had seemed so real that she could almost feel it happening. From the jumping down from the window, to the car and finally the gigantic demon that chased after them. It wasn't real, it was all a dream and the sight of his brother in the kitchen making dinner as he always did attested to the fact that she had been dreaming.

Wilson pulled the cigarette out of his lips and opened his mouth a little wider than casual exhaling more smoke than he had taken in and intoxicating the two siblings almost immediately. They were inexperienced, even a grade five advocate would pose little resistance before being knocked out.

The white smoke filled the car and soon, it diffused to the surrounding areas near them filling the entire place with smoke from only a short intake.

This was his ability. Illusion. He shoke his head violently, trying not to get caught in his own tricks while doing his best to avoid hitting the trees. It seemed his plan had worked, the creatures footsteps that were loud in his ears were slowly receding and soon he could hear it no more. He knew this was only going to last for a few minutes before the creature either knocked itself out of the illusion or it's summoner did but with that little time, they were going to find their way out and be far gone before then.
