Edric was speechless at Irene's words. It was true—Margaret was the kind of person who would do such a thing. He could not think of anything to refute her words.
"Edric, we are finished. If you have even the tiniest bit of affection towards me, if you really want what's best for Eden, then I beg you to let me go. Nathan and I will get married soon. I am imploring you not to pester us anymore! Please!" Edric's eyes darkened when he heard that. In his mind, he thought, "Irene, are you so eager to marry Nathan? Don't you feel anything for me?"
Seeing that he was silent, Irene didn't want to stay there any longer and walked right past him out the door.
"You really aren't going to give me a chance?" Edric asked pitifully.
