Chereads / Rectrix Reach 1: THE LAND OF FLAMES / Chapter 5 - 4. THE SHARPNESS OF LIGHTNING AND THE RAGE OF THUNDER

Chapter 5 - 4. THE SHARPNESS OF LIGHTNING AND THE RAGE OF THUNDER

Rilan sat up groggily. His mind was in shambles, so he narrowed his eyes trying to focus. Then it came flooding in, what happened that night – even while he was asleep. At first he was glad, but then realization hit in. He glanced darkly at Wynn who was now normal, so he was quite scared a little.

"Dude, it worked didn't it?" he said raising his hands in surrender. Using the telconfrix had drained him a little; besides fighting Rilan would end badly. He told them what he did in Rilan's mind and what he saw.

"So, he wields electricity." Lyxria said deep in thought. If the king knows this, Rilan would be executed nevertheless, only Wynn would be off the hook.

Rilan was deep in thought too, he knew sometimes he wielded electricity and he told his mum. She seemed happy rather than concerned. She had told him to keep it under wraps but the day would come when it would make him shine. But now, it seemed it would cost him his life.

"Maybe that's why you were aware in your dream, a wielder always sees through what he sees, right Lyxria?" Wynn offered.

Lyxria nodded, when she wields her energy she feels what it feels and it's like she extended her senses. But Sages and mages were rarely wielders, except for one mage who was a wielder. Things didn't end well for him though – Lord Mage Frank Disyract. He was a flame wielder and a mage; people claimed the power was so overwhelming that he even tried wielding the forbidden electricity. He succeeded but disrupted the rectrix balance in the process. Being a high figure, he was merely warned but he didn't repent and his ways threatened to destroy the planet. So there was war, a whole kingdom versus one man. He lost and escaped to somewhere unknown about a decade ago.

Rilan may not have that privilege though. He was already within the king's clutches and given the trouble with Frank, he might not take chances with Rilan.

"You're so doomed, Rilan." She whispered. They both heard her clearly and even Wynn couldn't deny that nothing could be done. They had to report to the king, lying to him was just as dangerous as he had mages at his disposal.

"Hey, let's hope he just chooses to keep you under close watch. Who knows, it may not happen again?" Wynn suggested hopefully.

"Yeah, you may be right." Rilan replied calmly. "I think he may calm down if my mum is involved."

Now Lyxria's ears perked up. If his mum was important like Frank, he wouldn't be finished off easily.

"Who's she?" she asked now hopeful too. She knew a handful of influential people, so she might recognize her.

"High Diamond Sage Salronia." He said his eyes eager.

Her eyes lit up. Salronia was a legend, the king would surely pardon him. she went from pronctix to gold skipping three steps for saving the kingdom from war. Where others usually stop because of the great money and wealth associated with that position, she went further to diamond. She's a battle sage worth a quarter of their unstoppable army. Rumors say she and her mentor Alan, once fought a war with aliens on his own and they won.

The joy didn't last long though as the doors bust open and seventy men flew in throwing ropes at Rilan and Wynn. The ropes were made of aline and prevented them from connecting to rectrix. Rilan however easily summoned water to freeze them all up. Then he used the water to tug the restraints off; the advantages of being an elemental master.

"That was close." Wynn breathed.

Lyxria was still reeling in shock, everything happened so fast. Rilan and Wynn wasted no time though as they were now glowing. More men sprung in but this time they were all blasted to the walls knocking over few shelves.

"We've got to get out of here." Wynn said a dozen xerix appearing and rolling like clocks. But he couldn't complete his trick as a blast of white knocked him down completely. He was out.

Rilan was now tense and his hair was flailing all over his eys completely blue. The white blast came as expected but he dodged easily and he went ove rot Wynn. He tapped the mage and Wynn disappeared. He then went for Lyxria but the white blast came back in an arc this time. He spread forth hishands and a huge wall of plants grew from the ground shielding him from the blast. Was he stupid? What was he thinking, it would cut through, Lyxria thought, but it didn't. it got absorbed and then the plants exploded.

Lyxria couldn't even react fast to shield herself so she was surprised to see herself in the air unhurt. Rilan had carried her princess style and was flying above the ruined building. The library was one of the extra buildings scattered in the library fields. She looked down and saw a straight a missile of white coming at him. He closed his eyes and suddenly the white stopped charging. Another Rilan was there his palms white outstretched and gripping the white object. The missile exploded though, destroying the clone and three more of its caliber came for the real Rilan. Lyxria felt his breath on her neck as he hissed. He couldn't fight with her in his arms, so she closed her eyes and willed herself to teleport out of there.

She got off to a far distance and watched bright blue collide with the white. The blue fell though and Rilan was on the floor. He summoned a xerix just that this time it was a helix in shape and it surrounded it raising dust and sand and then the earth sprung forth in a huge fist shape at the white object. The stone however dissipated on contact showering hot sand everywhere. In that moment of blindness Lyxria felt two srong arms around her neck gripping tightly. So, it was an assassination attempt. For some reason she couldn't summon her purple energy, illcyia. She felt air going out of her and she was tearing up. Just when she thought she was going to die, she was suddenly set free and she looked to see the white attacker held by the neck to a building. Holding him was Rilan with his hair completely strange his eyes completely blue and those blue zigzag lights sharper than ever. They connected like lightning bolts and lashed repeatedly at the attacker. The large amounts of electric charges in the atmosphere were reacting violently with the rectrix.  So a storm was brewing. Eventually lightning struck down from the sky and finished off the attacker knocking him out.

Seeing Rilan like this was frightening, he was fast and sharp, just like it, like electricity. More lightning was flashing and the thunder was violent. The ground was shaking and hail was falling. The electricity was bad and needed to be taken out, but she couldn't bring herself to strike Rilan.

"Rilan! You have to stop or you would destroy us all!" she yelled but he didn't even here her. He just kept staring at the attacker slumped on the floor. The electricity was become so much that nearby trees and shrubs were catching fire. Birds were getting electrocuted and Rilan was glowing like the sun.

"Rilan!" she shouted running towards him. She knew it was dangerous, but she had to bring him to his senses. As she got closer, he finally looked up. She summoned her illcyia and aimed for his face. But before she could strike, a crystal spear struck his chest and he fell down. The lights all erupted violently and the heavens thundered. She blacked out instantly.

"Hey, hey princess, are you okay?"

She blinked slowly and saw Wynn's golden face peering above. He seemed really worried, what happened. She looked to see herself tattered and her eloquent robe torn to a million pieces. She looked around, rubble surrounded her, and the landscape was a mess as if a tornado and an earthquake co-occurred. Emergency officers were all over the place. Then as she took everything in, she remembered. She instantly hugged Wynn.

"What exactly happened? I remembered us being attacked then I woke up to see everywhere a mess. I see these officers and the bad landscape. You were buried under some rubble and I was trying to check if you're still alive." He asked.

She backed off slowly.

"What of Rilan? Where is he?" she asked looking around.

"I can't find him either. And do you know the strange thing; I can't sense him anywhere near." Wynn replied clearly worried.

Now, she was worried too. Someone had taken him out with a spear; but who? And where was he? And be`sides who attacked them?

"I'm afraid, you can't find him." a deep voice rumbled from behind them. It was her father.

"Your highness…" Wynn started.

"I imprisoned the menace somewhere he would never wield again." The king stated firmly.

"Father…" Lyxria tried.

"You should be grateful I let him live, look at what he did. His very existence is a threat to our planet. Remember what happened with the aliens, with Frank, I can't let that happen again." He cut her off.

"So, you think that locking him up will solve it. Will that solve the problem? What if there are more wielders you think, this is the solution uhn?" she exclaimed infuriated.

"Lyxria!" the King warned.

"No Dad, you have to at least let me see him. He saved my life, you owe that to him and to his mother, Salronia." She said pointedly.

The king was shocked but hearing her last sentence calmed him down. Even Wynn was surprised; no one spoke the king like that. But he too wanted to badly see Rilan, he had to admit, he thought of the annoying lad as a friend.

He looked expectantly at the king and finally his face broke.

"Fine, follow me." He conceded.

They headed to the tower that held the hive throne room. They entered the elevator but instead of choosing a floor, the king said some strange words and the elevator shot downwards. They were going to the underground, the most secure prison in Thran. Not only was rectrix not present there but energy was controlled and almost nonexistent. Then, special crystals were used to neutralize the powers of criminals. Then rema radiations the weakened powers were always in circulation. These radiations monitor the prisoners too, giving information about them to the guards. Even the king was powerless in this prison.

They descended the eerie metal spiral stairs in silence. Then they got to the top of the dungeon. This made Lyxria sigh in relief, he wasn't considered threat enough to be locked in the lower levels. Their footsteps on the metal floors were echoed by the stone walls making the moment solemn. They approached the biggest cell in the place, where at the edge was Rilan. He was crouched on the floor, his hair covering his head completely.

"The cell is designed such that if energy is detected from him in suspicious amounts, this happens." The king explained flicking a switch and Rilan began to float and he gritted his teeth in pain as green light shone all around him illuminating the dark dungeon.

"It's neutralizing him." Wynn whispered sadly.

"Yes of course he's dangerous and he almost killed my sister." A voice from behind them sounded. They turned back to see Wilson, the prince. For now, he commands the army next in line to his father at age 14. He was a prodigy and rumors say he controls rectrix directly.

"Brother, I didn't know you were here." Lyxria said flatly.

"And I didn't know you were harboring another Frank." He replied sharply.

"Why are you even here?"

"Do you really think I'll miss the selection for the crown heir? And with this 'issue' on our hands, it seems I'm gaining an advantage here." He smirked.

Lyxria was shocked and turned to her father sharply. The latter just shrugged nonchalant and started strolling out.

"What do you mean crown heir?"
