Chapter 78: Investigation
Amelia Bones was not too happy about the use of lethal wards. But Harry pointed out that they were perfectly legal for pureblood households and that the intruders came with the intention to kill them.
The Aurors took a basic statement and then left with the bodies of the Carrow twins and the pair of amputated legs that were still unidentified.
Later on that day, Harry brought Luna to the Potter manor and she got to spend some time with Susan and Hannah, who were worried sick about her. There was no more training that day, but they set another date for the next week.

Outside Malfoy Manor
"H-Help!" the yells were getting weaker after the third one.
"H-h-elp…."
Mcnair opened the door after one of the house elves informed them about the presence of someone injured at the entrance.
"Yaxley?! Oh Merlin, what happened to you?" Mcnair kneels down to check on Yaxley.
"T-the…t-the wards…were..t-too…the wards…." Yaxley had lost too much blood and was starting to lose conscience.
"Damm it!, I don't know any healing spell. Hold on, ill take you to Saints Mungo." Mcnair took out his wand and apparated the both of them away.

Department of Magical Law enforcement
Amelia Bones was at the morgue of the Ministry where they had just brought the two bodies and were now trying to identify the owner of the legs.
"There are some ways to find out but involve the use of blood magic and as you know, is very restricted and requires a lot of paperwork, so it will take some time." The forensic auror said.
"There may be another way…"
Amelia turned to Tonks.
"I need you to call Saints Mungo and have them inform us if anyone arrives today with missing legs. With all of the blood that person lost, there aren't many places that could save his life in time."
"Is worth a shot. I'll get to it" Tonk said before leaving.

Mcnair was in the waiting room, waiting for news about Yaxley when He spotted a group of four Aurors, that included Amelia Bones, walk into the hospital and talk with the receptionist.
Mcnair lowered his head and tried to hear what they were saying, but they were too far away. He did however notice that the receptionist pointed out in the same direction where they took Yaxley.
He didn't need to be a genius to know why those Aurors came here.
"Shite, I need to get out of here."
He didn't give his name to anyone when He brought Yaxley, with some luck, no one would have recognized him.
Mcnair quietly made his way towards the floo access and left with no one noticing.
—------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Amelia entered the hospital room, She noticed that everything was too quiet and feared the worst.
One of the healers turned to her and recognized the head of the D.M.L.E.
"We tried our best, but He had lost too much blood, even blood replenishing potions were not enough."
Amelia looked at the dead man on the bed and didn't take much effort to recognize him.
"Yaxley…of course." Along with the Carrow twins, now She found another know death eater who fought in the last war and got off with no punishment.
'If Voldemort is really back, then they were probably after Harry Potter.' Amelia thought.
There were only a few people in the Ministry that knew about Harry staying with the Lovegoods, but it only takes a few galleons for people to talk.
—---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mcnair made his way back to Malfoy Manor to inform his Lord.
Voldemort looked at him when He entered the room.
"What happened?, you left suddenly."
Mcnair explained what happened to Yaxley.
"He is in Saints Mungo?. What about the Carrow twins? where are they?" Voldemort asked.
"I don't know My Lord, only Yaxley came back gravely injured, He could barely talk. The only thing He said was something about the wards." Mcnair explained.
"The wards?..." Voldemort looked pensive.
'Were the Carrow twins unable to disable the wards and were injured by it?' He wondered.
Voldemort turned to look at Mcnair.
"Call all of your contacts if you need to. I want to know exactly what happened!"
"Yes My Lord," Mcnair responded quickly, noticing the anger of his Lord rising.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mcnair hopes that no one remembered him at the hospital would be all for naught.
All Amelia had to do was to ask the receptionist to put her memories of the encounter inside a vial that she could then analyze in her pensieve.
The next day, Mcnair was brought to an interrogation room. However, after questioning him for an hour, the only thing that He admitted was taking his injured friend to Saints Mungo and denied any connection with death eaters or the attack on the Lovegoods.
Since there was no evidence of his involvement and Mcnair had many friends at the Ministry, Amelia had no choice but to let him go.
However, she will keep a close eye on Him and any of his associates.
—-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Under constant vigilance, Mcnair was unable to gather the information that his Lord had demanded without raising more suspicion, so He passed the request to another one of his associates at the Ministry, a man named Gibbon, who worked at the department of floo transportation.
It would take Gibbon almost a week to gather all of the details, but eventually, the two of them were ready to report to their Lord.
—------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"That's everything I managed to find, My Lord." Gibbon finished talking.
Mcnair was kneeling next to him while the Dark Lord looked to be in deep thought.
"Did you find out who set up those wards?" Voldemort asked.
Gibbon shook his head. "No, My Lord."
"Fine" Voldemort was clearly displeased. His two followers who were still kneeling on the ground started to shake in fear.
"There will be no more attacks in that house. There is no point in throwing away valuable resources. I'll find a way to get Potter while He is in Hogwarts."
Mcnair seem to recall something and lifted his face to look at his Lord, hoping that this new information will improve His mood and maybe avoid punishment.
"My Lord. I found out one interesting piece of information related to Hogwarts."
Voldemort made a hand gesture indicating for him to continue.
"I found out the event that is going to take place next year at Hogwarts. Is the Tri-Wizard Cup, My Lord" Mcnair informed.
Voldemort smiled at the news and was already starting to make plans.
"Is it now?. I read about that tournament… a very dangerous event. And it is common for students to die."
A cruel smile started to appear on his face.
