Chapter 45

How to slay a basilisk

Harry was making his way out of the chamber using the pipe system that the basilisk used to escape.

It was not an easy job since the pipes were very slippery and went into very steep angles, but eventually, he literally saw light at the end of the tunnel.

"I still can't believe you left the Griphindor sword in that cold, damp, and terrible place." The Hat manage to stay on top of Harry's head, which was undoubtedly a feat of magic.

"Shut up about the sword already, I have bigger problems right now!" Harry said, losing his patience with the Hat.

'If I am not the one that kills the basilisk then I will have no claim over Its materials. While the venom can be bought from somewhere else, the blood of such an ancient specimen is absolutely unique. I can't lose that.'

Once He managed to get out of the pipes and was once more in the castle proper, Harry was about to try sensing the direction that the basilisk went, but then he looked down he realized there was no need for that.

To his left, the floor tiles were cracked, and there were marks of grime from the pipes.

"I guess a 60 feet serpent will be easy to track," Harry said before He started running again.

When they were following the tracks, the Hat decided to point out.

"Oh no! It seems like is going towards the library!."

"Makes sense, It must still be able to sense the heat signal fro-" Harry's eyes open wide for a moment when he remembered.

'Aren't those girls in the library right now?… shit.'

"Celeritas Meliorem." Harry tried to ignore the flash of pain that went through his body. His muscles shook and his bones seem to be about crack. This spell is not meant to be used more than once a day, especially with the physically undeveloped body of a child.

"Mr. Potter what are you…oHH" The Hat was surprised by the sudden increase of speed and he had to use everything he had to stay on Harry's head.

Harry moved at an impossible speed through the halls of the castle in the direction of the library, He could clearly see the tracks following the same path.

Once he reached the final hallway that leads to the library, He saw the destruction caused by the basilisk. In the place where it used to be a big wooden door, now there was only a giant hole with debris everywhere.

Harry speeds up towards the entrance of the library and once there He was able to assess the situation.

He immediately spotted the giant snake as It was approaching Susan, who had gotten in front of Luna and Hannah and was preparing to throw some spell. Luna then looked in his direction with an estatcic smile.

He heard Susan cast a cutting charm and even managed to hit the basilisk but it only served to make It angrier. It opened its mouth and was about to strike at her.

Harry held his wand in his right hand and started running towards his target. He quickly conjured several blades and shot them at the body of the serpent.

The blades managed to pierce Its scale and earned a very loud hiss from that.

He needs to earn the attention of the basilisk for his plan to work and It seems that he succeeded as the basilisk turned toward him now.

The girls also notice him by now.

"Harry!" Both Susan and Hannah yelled.

His focus however was on the giant snake that was not quickly approaching him.

'I need to finish this in one spell, dragging the fight out would be bad for everyone present.'

He started to focus his magic and shape his spell. His eyes started to shine brightly and the debris that covered the ground of the library started to shake.

As he was kneeling, Harry said.

"Hey Hat, you wanted me to use a sword to fight this thing right?. I'll show you one." Harry smiled.

"Mr. Potter, I don't think this is the moment-"

A shockwave of energy shot out from Harry and now the whole library seems to be moving.

The basilisk's instincts were screaming at It to stay away from the being in front. And even with Its broken mind, It hesitated for a second.

Harry was on one knee, he lifted his wand, and then, with a swift motion, He slammed the tip of the wand against the ground while looking at the basilisk.

"IMPETUS GLADIO!"

A giant sword, bigger than the basilisk Itself rose from the ground, right beneath the snake, and pierce its body while it rose high into the sky.

The basilisk was pierced around the middle of its body and when the sword kept rising higher and higher, the basilisk was carried into the air until It almost reached the ceiling of the great chamber that is Hogwarts library.

Everyone in the room was looking at the incredible scene before their eyes.

The gigantic snake that looked so threatening moments ago was now wiggling its body in desperation while impaled in a sword that seem to be almost one hundred feet tall.

The great serpent of Slytherin, now looked more like a worm, stuck in a fishing hook.

Harry rose from the floor with difficulty. He has never, in two lives, pushed his body as hard as he did today.

As soon as he manage to stand up, an intense pain ran through his body and was forced to kneel again while he started coughing.

"Mr. Potter, are you alright?" The Hat asked in a worried manner.

Luna was already at his side with an unusually serious expression.

"Harry!" She went to his side and helped him stand up.

Susan and Hannah also got to where he was now standing.

"Harry!, You saved us. " Susan exclaimed while Hannah just looked at him with a worried expression.

The other students started to come out from their hiding spots and carefully walked towards the exit of the library while looking with awe and fear at the basilisk, who was still seemingly alive and moving slightly once in a while.

"Wow"

"What spell was that?"

"O my!, Is still alive. Let's get out of here!"

"That's one giant sword!"

"Oh no…poor Ms. Pince…"

Students were commenting while walking around the library.

Several sets of steps were heard by the students and moments later they could see several figures standing at the broken entrance of the library.

"What happened here? Is everyone alright?" Professor Flitwick asked.

Professor McGonagall's eyes were immediately drawn toward the colossal sword that erupted from the ground. Her face became a tad redder and pointed at the sword.

"Who did THAT!" She then started to follow the blade of the sword up to see how big it was. And right at the top…She saw It.

"BY MERLIN! I-IS THAT? IS THAT A-?"

"A giant basilisk?. Yes, I believe so, professor." Luna answered in a calm manner.
