Chapter 30
Visiting the Potter Manor
The next day, he woke up to a knock on the door.
"Mister Potter, you have a visitor. He is Hagrid, from Hogwarts, and says he has some very urgent news. " Tom, the owner of the Leaky Cauldron said.
Still half asleep, Harry managed.
"Alright, tell him to come in."
Hagrid made his way into the small room.
"Arry!. It's good to see you…I-I'm sorry. I wish I could have visited you under better circumstances." Hagrid looked very sad.
Harry feigned ignorance. "Hagrid, what is going on?. What is the urgent news?."
Hagrid looked at him with difficulty.
"There is no easy way to say this Harry…Yesterday there was a fire in your house…I'm afraid…your aunt and uncle are dead. I'm sorry."
Harry looked shocked for a moment.
"Oh… that's terrible. Poor Vernon and Petunia…"
"Yes. Em…Harry don't take this the wrong way but, why weren't you at home?. Not that I am not glad you weren't, but we also could not find your cousin." Hagrid said.
"Well… they wanted to spend the day alone. I believe it was their wedding anniversary or something. So they sent Dudley to his aunt Marge. That woman doesn't really like me, so I told them I could come to Diagon Alley and stay here a day or two, while I do some shopping." Harry finished telling Hagrid the excuse he had prepared.
"I see. Well it, was fortunate for you and your cousin. Listen, Harry, Professor Dumbledore wanted me to tell you that for the moment is better if you don't leave Diagon Alley. You are safe enough here. He said, that he will visit you in a few days and if you need anything all you have to do is sent a message with your owl." Hagrid finished saying.
Harry gave the giant his best fake smile.
"Thank you, Hagrid."
—----------------------------------------
After saying his goodbyes to Hagrid, he approached the owl who was resting on a perch, close to the window.
As soon as he got close, the owl gave him an angry hoot.
"Yes yes. I know you are still angry. But…hey, at least we did remember to come back for you in time, right?."
The owl gave him another angry hoot.
Harry sighed. He then opened the window of the room and said.
"Alright, just go do your thing."
He gave her two letters for Susan and Hannah and the owl flew out rapidly.
"That's done. Lorry, let's go to Gringotts."
The elf, who had been hiding in the room, suddenly appeared.
"Yes, Master."
—-------------------------------------------------
The letter that he received from Gringotts was from his account manager to inform him about a law that would allow him to be declared an adult at the age of 15 because He is the last member of an ancient noble family.
That was nice to know, but still three years away.
During his visit, he took the chance to inquire about the properties owned by the Potters.
There are only two. There is one at Godric's Hollow in West Country. Unfortunately, that one has been declared a national museum by the ministry and he cannot live there.
The other one is Potter Manor, on the coast of Wales. He is allowed to live there if he wants to, however, he has been told by his manager that the Manor is in dire need of repairs.
—------------------------------------------------------
After leaving the bank, Harry decided to take a look at the property, since he doesn't want to be a homeless wizard for too long.
'Wow, they must have gone a bit crazy with the bombardas.' Harry thought while looking at what was left of the Potter Manor.
His former followers did an excellent job destroying the property when they targeted his grandparents. Most of the walls have been destroyed, there were no roofs left, or windows...or doors....or...well, it was more accurate to call it, a pile of rubble instead of a house.
"Master wants to live here?." Lorry asked while trying hard to maintain his poker face.
"Come now, Lorry. Is not that bad." Harry looked at the sky when the elf gave him a stare.
"Well, at least it will give you something to do while I am at Hogwarts this year. I will give you plenty of money to hire people." Harry told the elf.
"As you wish, Master." Lorry said, still not very convinced.
—-------------------------------------------------------
Some days later Dumbledore gave Harry a visit and offered him a place to stay with the Weasleys for the rest of the summer.
Harry politely declined the offer. After meeting Ron and the twins, he cannot imagine spending what was left of summer, locked in a small house with them.
Dumbledore didn't have any other family to suggest at the moment, so he agreed to let Harry stay in the Leaky Cauldron with the condition that he did not leave the Alley.
That was fine by him. He had already done everything he needed for the moment and just planned to get some reading for the rest of his vacation.
