Chapter 31
Start of the second year
Harry was once again at the opening feast. The last of his summer was very relaxing. All he did was study some rare books he got from Knockturn Alley, no matter how much one knew, there was always something new to learn.
Aside from that, he tried to get into contact with Lucius, since he is the one in possession of his diary. Unfortunately, he got no answers from him, and the Dialy Prophet claims that he and his wife seem to have disappeared after losing his job at the Ministery of Magic.
'I am going to have to try something else.' Harry pondered while looking towards the Gryffindor table.
While Susan and Hannah were talking about their summer, Harry was looking at the house sorting.
There was a hyperactive kid with a camera that keep looking at him and got sorted into Gryffindor, much to his apparent disappointment.
A female Weasley, who also keep looking at him, was sorted into Gryffindor. And also seem disappointed for some reason.
A blonde girl who seem to be distracted about something was sorted into Ravenclaw. Before going to her table, she gave Harry a look and a smile.
After the sorting was done, the Headmaster introduced the new Defense against the dark arts teacher.
Hannah, who was next to him almost got up from her seat in enthusiasm.
"Oh, Gilderoy Lockhart is going to give a speech!. He is soo dreamy!."
Susan wasn't as excited as her friend.
"I don't know what you see in him Hannah, I mean yes he is handsome but also old. And look at his clothes!, even the Headmaster doesn't dress that flashy." Susan said, pointing at Lockhart.
"I think violet looks good on him and he is not that old!. Besides, he is one of the most powerful wizards out there. According to my dad, the more powerful the wizard is, the longer they live." Hannah defended.
'Powerful? that guy?.' Harry thought while looking at his new teacher.
He did not have the gift of Magesight, but Harry could at least tell the intensity of one's magic, and Lockhart was by far the weakest among the teachers. It was even weaker than many of the older students.
—---------------------------------------------------
The next day, they had potions with Ravenclaw and Defense with Gryffindor.
The potion class went as Harry expected.
"Potter!, what is this?." Snape asked, pointing at his finished potion.
"It's a swelling solution I believe, according to the instructions," Harry answered impassively.
"Don't get cheeky with me Potter. It is supposed to be yellow in color. Does this look yellow to you?. Ten points from Hufflepuff!."
Snape spat, pointing to a vial containing a very dark, almost black liquid.
'I miss Slughorn…I used to be decent at potions when he was a teacher.'
Harry then started to wonder if Slughorn would be willing to come back from retirement if something unfortunate happened to the current teacher.
"And five more points for not paying attention!" Snape said angrily before going back to his desk.
—-----------------------------------------
The next class was even worse.
'What is this? a joke?' Harry wondered while looking at the questions in front of him.
Questions like 'What is Gilderoy Lockhart's favorite color?' or 'What would be the ideal present for Gilderoy Lockhart?' were written on the paper.
During the second part of the class, the professor decided it was a good idea to release a dozen Cornish Pixies in the classroom.
It was total chaos. Lockhart tried to perform a spell that sounded ridiculous. Not only did the spell not work, but the professor was also disarmed by the pixies.
And now there were a dozen Pixies flying around the classroom and causing chaos.
A few of them got hold of the Longbottom heir and place him on the chandelier.
'Pathetic…This is the last heir of a noble ancient house. How has the mighty fallen.' Harry thought.
Most of his classmates were taking cover under the desk, including Susan and Hannah who kept asking him to come down with them.
Harry just sat there, watching what Hogwarts education has devolved into, and wishing he was in a better place when one of the pixies decided that he was easy prey.
Once the pixie was close to his face, Harry's hand came fast as a bullet and took firm hold of Pixie. This one tried to struggle for a moment before Harry slammed It hard on the desk.
BAAM!
The sound resounded in the class, making all of the other pixies stop what they were doing and looked at what was left of their comrade.
Harry then looked up from his desk, directly to the pixies and his eyes seem to shine for a moment.
The pixies were beyond terrified and decided that the best course of action was getting out of there. So they broke one of the windows and flew out of there as fast as they could while Lockhard was trying to stop them.
"WAIT!!, don't go!. I need you for my next class!." Lockhard yelled at them while trying to catch them with his hands.
"Wow, mate. That was brutal!." Ron Weasley said, smiling at Harry.
"Did you have to do that Harry?" Susan said while looking at the squashed pixie on the desk with disgust.
"They were too annoying." That's all that Harry said.
-----------------------—---------------------------
Once a few days have passed and everyone in the castle settles back into their routines. Harry decided it was time to go back to his nightly practices in the Room of Requirement.
It wasn't only about practice spells, it was also the only place where Harry could blow up some steam. Classes were for the most part very boring to him as he already knew all of Hogwart's curriculum.
After finishing his practice for the day, Harry was making his way across one of the seventh-floor corridors when he spotted a small blonde girl leaning against one of the windows, looking outside.
'Why isn't she wearing any shoes?' Were Harry's first thoughts.
