Su Lu took advantage of the moment she was touring with Jiang Li to fish a pill of ibuprofen out of her bag and swallowed it dry.
She didn't know if it was the quick onset of the medication or the placebo effect, but she soon felt as if the pain had subsided.
There was a garden behind the Jiang Residence, not planted with any particularly precious flowers, but when they bloomed, they did so profusely, and the sight was quite beautiful. There were trellises covered with clematis with leaves shaped like sunflowers, blossoming with little red star-shaped flowers. Vines of rose bushes climbed another trellis, blooming with pink and white double-petal roses.
And there were hydrangeas of various colors, blooming in large clusters, along with some unruly bellflowers, sprouting sporadically, their deep purple flowers bursting forth.
"They were all planted by my mom," said Jiang Li as he noticed her staring intently, seemingly enchanted by the little garden.
