Chapter 33 - A new Mission for Nick

Just after talking to his agent at the hospital, his phone rang again and Jack received it. The man on the other end was Ngatilu and who was now giving Jack new business ideas. He spoke to him one sentence that made Jack realize he needed more supply of trade "items". He had said to Jack, "My heart is not beating." Jack thought of this coded message silently for he knew what the man was referring to. In that silence, Ngatilu, who is never in a hurry spoke again.

"Now Jack, you remember the parcel you brought last time?" Ngatilu paused as he always did when he wanted to make a strong point. Of course Jack remembered the university girl called Rose. To the university fraternity they still regard her as a missing person. But for him he knew exactly where she was, or rather, where she was supposed to be. Jack had lured her into his vehicle one evening as she left for her hostels.

She had thought of him as another male customer whom she accommodated once in a while. But from the moment she entered his vehicle, Rose was as good as dead. She had been taken to Ngatilu's as a parcel and he had made some reservations concerning her but later said she would be suitable for another category. Since then, no one had seen her. She was probably dead, her organs used for some rituals or business ventures or better still she is serving in a brothel.

Jack cleared his throat and replied, "Well, I remember her. I hope you found her to be useful, after all?" he added, in a manner he was seeking certain information from Ngatilu. When Rose was taken he was paid only half of what was due because he was told that she didn't meet the set requirements hence necessitating her being taken to another section. When he had demanded for the rest of the money he was told that the remainder would be used to offset the inconveniences he had caused. This had hurt Jack but what hurt more was that he was appearing to be incompetent in front of his fellow merchants. That wouldn't be good for business.

"Yes! She is serving us well. Now we want more of her type, but remember the purity clause," said Ngatilu, "The purer she is the higher you get paid! So do your best," the man added. Jack listened to him for a while without saying anything because he was planning. As usual he wouldn't let any opportunity to make money escape him. His mind started working very first as to where she could find a pure girl.

He had been made to understand that purity in this sense meant a girl who had not been so much sexually active. Why they needed such a girl Jack didn't know and Ngatilu would not explain it either. In the first place he had said that there was another merchant who was buying them from him. So he was merely acting as a middle man without much information. The first girl he had taken, Rose, was a part-time prostitute in the streets and that is why she wasn't accepted as a pure one.

"Okay," Jack got his voice back after seeing he has a possibility of getting a pure girl. In his mind he had Caroline, Nick's girlfriend. According to his own assessment he felt like Caroline will pass for being pure. It was a matter of Nick delivering her up, and if he refuses Jack will use his means to get her because after all Nick owed him millions of money. "When do you need the parcel delivered?" Jack asked.

"Anytime, as soon as you are ready. If it happens within the month and she's clean be sure to smile all the way to the bank!"

"Alright, I will get back to you, as usual." And the line was disconnected.

Jack then redialled the number of his agent to find out where they were. He didn't pick the call. Instead, he entered almost suddenly, followed by Nick and all the men he was with at the hospital. Jack looked at them unamused. His moods were not the ones to play with. He went and sat on his favourite chair as the others lined up in the living room, before him.

"Speak up Nick! Are you failing me again?" Jack roared as he glared at Nick. But, being psychologically prepared for this outbursts, Nick remained cool and composed as Jack went on to throw tantrums. "Have you got any idea what a simple mistake at his moment can cost us? Do you want to see us all rotting away in the prisons?"

"I am sorry sir…!" Nick began but he was suddenly cut short.

"Sorry is not enough! Sorry alone will noty return my millions that you lost. I want you to do something that will ensure I get back my millions!"

"With all due respect sir, Tony is now with no memory and therefore, he is now of no use even with the police!" he tried to defend, "Besides, killing him won't bring us any cash back!"

"Exactly! And that is why you are here. I am sending you on a new mission which will earn me millions and if you so wish you could also make a few bucks for yourself."
